25.01.2022 Another ripping Online Consultation conducted by Marcelle. The client at the other end of the interweb had no equipment other than floor space for this session. No Problem! Marcelle is one of the most incredibly creative EPs around. We once witnessed her conduct a whole session using just a balloon and the client was in pieces (in a good way) by the end and a step closer to their rehab goal. So great to have such experienced EPs on our team. Location is no longer a barrier! #exercisephysiologist #noequipmentworkout #noequipmentrehab #movementtraining #movementcoach #chapelstprecinct #telehealth #exercisephysiology

24.01.2022 Dosing for Pain VS Dosing for Fitness Exercise dosing for pain is not the same as exercise dosing for fitness For more information on: ... * Current dosage parameters * How dosage can affect pain levels * Comparison of pain and tolerance * Variables that affect tolerance * Rate of perceived exertion * Monitoring patient dosage Take a read of the full article here: https://cor-kinetic.com/exercise-dosing-for-pain-is-not-t/ #exercise #exercisephysiology #exerciseroutine #painmanagement #rehab #exerciseroutine #dosage #tolerance #exertion #injury #patient #fitness #injurymanagement

24.01.2022 As a DNS practitioner, its a dream to work with talented dancers. Here our practitioner Tony Pasquali works on an incredibly high level exercise with our favourite Dancer. Note the generation of intra-abdominal pressure and almost ideal core musculature coordination delivers a appearance effortlessness, despite the wicked forces being imparted on the body. Dont try this one at home! #exercisephysiology #exerciserehab #dynamicneuromuscularstabilization #movementtraining #movementspecialist #movementtherapy #southyarra #balancetraining #kineticchain #danceinjury #dancerehabilitation

23.01.2022 Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilisation uses developmental kinesiology to train the co ordination of the stabilising and dynamic function of muscles involved in the kinetic chain of a skilful movement in conjunction with the regulation of intra abdominal pressure by the central nervous system. This dancer has now been working with The EP group for 10 months and has begun to work creatively with the developmental milestone positions. Here in 4 month old supine again with DNS instruction provided by Tony Pasquali of The EP group. #southyarra #dynamicneuromuscularstabilization #exercisephysiology #danceinjury #danceinjuryprevention

22.01.2022 So proud of our takayna runners in the Run to Save Wild Places on the North West . Five top 20 finishers including two in the top 10! Four of our team are featured on the official video. What an effort! What makes it most pleasing is that within this group there have been three significant back injuries, one requiring surgery, one recommended for surgery, a recurring hamstring tendinopathy and a 3/4 ACL tear.. #truegrit #exerciserehab #movementcoach #returntoplay #returntosport #exercisephysiology

22.01.2022 66-Year-old with Polymyalgia Rheumatica - "I leave each session with my exercise physiologist feeling 100% better." Polymyalgia Rheumatica is an auto-immune disease, causing inflammation of blood vessels usually effecting the neck shoulders and hips. You can see form the positions of the leg in the first photo, the right hip is quite restricted at rest. Victims quite often report their limitations as being painful, stiff and physically restrictive. The second image was taken following a specialised form of passive treatment, from the change in position of the foot you can see how much the hip stiffness has subsided. The subject reported vastly reduced levels of pain and greater physical freedom.

22.01.2022 Our regular Friday morning session with this group of warhorses. A couple of weeks out from their trail running adventure in the #takaynaultra on the north west coast of Tasmania, we incorporate DNS principles to fire up the deep stabilisers to provide a foundation for hip stability, movement precision and neuromuscular control. While there are a couple of bumpy landings in this footage, these guys make this exercise look a lot easy than it is. The power of the turning body is revealed! Thanks @markonmovement and @themovementsolution for the ideas. #savethetarkine #dynamicneuromuscularstabilization #exercisephysiology #exercisephysiologist #hipstability #movementcoach #movementspecialist #movementtraining #injuryprevention #southyarra #southyarralife #bobbrownfoundation

21.01.2022 COVID-19, snow, no gym access and a client 350kms away with kids that need to be entertained. What a great recipe for a rehab session! This is adaptability at its best. No reliance on fancy Kieser equipment, no Pilates reformers, not even a theraband in sight. A great EP can guide you to create the right session to progress your recovery in any environment and help you to feel superhuman in the process! Huge effort from the client in signing up for this! Shout out to @cliebenson, were adding another element to #thehardestthingyoudowell combining it with #inthetoughesttrainingenvironment you can manufacture! Surely theres some kind of neurocognitive augmentation at play here. #exercisephysiologist #exerciserehab #movementcoach #kneerehab #kneeinjuryrehab #injurymanagement #chapelstreetprecinct @ The Exercise Physiology Group

21.01.2022 Sometimes progress can be achieved just by doing the simple things better. Here our Exercise Physiologist, Molly Lowther, works with a recreational tennis player conservatively managing an inguinal hernia. Using DNS principles, disassociating hip movement (flexion/extension) from movement of the spine (Lumbar and thoracic flexion/extension) allows us to preserve the cylinder. Theoretically, this distributes a more even intra-abdominal pressure through the torso during movement, reducing the likelihood of an episode of pressure at the site of the hernia. Now to take this learning into the tennis serving action! Stay tuned . . . . #dynamicneuromuscularstabilization #exerciserehab #exercisephysiology #exercisephysiologist #herniarepair #returntoplay #returntosport #movementtherapy #southyarra #southyarralife

21.01.2022 With the recent news of the lock down here in Victoria, we wanted to share with you our action plan for the next 5 days: We're essential healthcare and our South Yarra Clinic will remain open for face to face sessions with precautions in place to keep you safe. If you need to shift your face to face or at home consult to Telehealth, please get in touch with us at: [email protected]... 03 9029 5590 We've done it before VIC and we'll do it again! #staysafe #melblockdown #openinghours #theepgroup

20.01.2022 This email just hit our inbox regarding our Senior EP, Ryan Free. "Before seeing Ryan, I was suffering from a number of permanent conditions and chronic pain with regard to my left foot. I was living in fear of a fall and an inevitable achilles tendon rupture predicted by multiple orthopaedic surgeons. After commencing with Ryan, I began to notice improvements within a very short time frame that grew to be life-changing. On a recent holiday, I tried an activity I wouldnt... have dreamt of attempting 12 months ago. I successfully rode an electric scooter finding I was able to maintain my balance and control as a result of the work completed under Ryans supervision. This activity was the absolute highlight of the trip. It was amazing to feel the wind in my hair and I could almost imagine I was going for a run again! EP is now a permanent fixture in my medical arsenal and Im so pleased to have been able to diminish the risks I thought I had no control over. I wish orthopaedic surgeons would recognise the value of this treatment approach for their patients with permanent and ongoing medical conditions. Ryan has given me hope again and continues to offer me new goals to work towards. Thank you Ryan, Im incredibly grateful." #rehabilitation #orthopaedic #QOL #chronicpainsurvivor #exercisephysiologist #exerciserehab #movementcoach

20.01.2022 Using DNS principles to disassociate hip & lumbar spine movements and shoulder/thoracic spine movements. A great exercise for breaking bad postural habits that aggravate existing painful conditions or injuries. We use DNS in group and individual sessions at our South Yarra and Melbourne CBD locations.

17.01.2022 Our Exercise Physiologist and Director Brad managed to survive two days with this madman and come out with his Level 1 Certification in @ginasticanatural. Thankyou @alvaroromano for your patience, guidance and sharing your vast knowledge. Look out for our roll out of Ginastica Natural classes at our South Yarra space soon. #ginasticanatural #antiaging #bodyweightworkout #exercisephysiology #southyarra #southyarralife #movementtraining #movementcoach #movementspecialist

16.01.2022 History is our greatest teacher. Even if it is recent history. While this is an opinion piece, it stands to reason that an approach to maintain physical activity through these challenging times will prove to be advantageous for many reasons. Mental health benefits and boosting immune system function are front and centre. Lets use exercise science for the greater good! #fightingcorona #fightingcoronavirustogether #physicalactivity #exercisescience

16.01.2022 As much as it feels good to receive an email like this, it makes you assess your own performance as a #movementcoach . While it is so awesome that the goal was achieved, the disappointing element is that this #golfr and all round nice guy failed to attribute the change/improvement to the diligent work he has put in and the grit he has demonstrated. Sure we had a role in this outcome, but every practitioner worth their salt aims to #guidebytheside to build resilience and self-efficacy and a knowledge base in the client to sustain them past this initial movement puzzle. We were slightly off-target here. #golffitness #exercisephysiology #exercisephysiologist #movementtraining #sportspecifictraining #chapelstreetprecinct #southyarralife

16.01.2022 The body is a complex system. Here were working with a competitive open water swimmer addressing a left shoulder stability issue that is creating an artificial performance ceiling. While it is important to be focused on addressing the shoulder dysfunction, with the right exercise, we can attack it from a complex systems perceptive, integrating the whole kinetic chain and focus on multiple elements including shoulder stability that will contribute to a more efficient stroke... back in the water. Done well, the Lizard delivers proprioceptive intelligence around maintaining a streamlined body position while approximating the recovery and catch of the freestyle stroke. This is a good first up effort with some refinement to come with practice. Perform this exercise in a corridor and let the walls be your coach. #thehardestthingyoudowell #chapelstreetprecinct #exercisephysiologist #exercisephysiology #movementcoach #movementtraining #sportspecifictraining #sportsrehab #swimmingtraining See more

13.01.2022 This is a mother of two working her way back to thoughtless, fearless, relaxed movement after developing some maladaptive hip stability strategies (and associated pain) carrying kids on her right hip for the last 4 years. Note the spiky ball she is squeezing with her right leg to further stimulate glute recruitment and break old strategies. Excellent control displayed in maintaining intra-abdominal pressure through the perturbation of the med ball halos. #dynamicneuromuscularstabilization #postnatalfitness #hippain #hipstability

13.01.2022 Our Exercise Physiologist, Marcelle was recently sent this photo from one of her aging group exercise clients with the caption Thanks to EP I could do 3 hours of this!! nuff said! #exercisephysiologist #exerciserehab #activeaging #movementcoach #movementspecialist #injurymanagement #southyarra #southyarralife #exerciseforlife #exercisebenefits

12.01.2022 More DNS working from quad to high sit with some dance specific mobility thrown in. She has been working regularly with DNS and has remained injury free all year. A big step. #southyarra #dynamicneuromuscularstabilization #exercisephysiology #danceinjury #danceinjuryprevention

12.01.2022 Some finishing touches on return to play shoulder rehab for this recreational Polo player. First Chukka for the season this weekend! Suffered a fall mid-winter resulting in infraspinatus/supraspinatus (rotator cuff) tears and an aggravation of a non-displaced labral tear. Here we are working the posterior sling, focusing on stabilisation through the affected left shoulder to maintain control of the pony while activating the right side lower quartile kinetic chain to provide a stable base to execute a balanced near side or off side shot. #polo #sportspecifictraining #sportsrehab #southyarra #kineticchain #balancetraining #athletictraining #movementtraining #movementspecialist #sportsconditioning #returntosport #returntoplay #exercisephysiology #exerciserehab

11.01.2022 One of our corporate clients Zinc Group has formed an amazing alliance with the #cambodiankidsfoundation. This is the 9th year of their Trivia Night fundraiser. Next week they will be sending 9 of their employees into a remote Cambodian village to donate their time and energy contributing much needed labour and resources to give the children of the village a leg up to escape poverty. Very proud that members of our team gave up their time to support this event and this very worthwhile initiative.

10.01.2022 Classic commentary from @newscientist this week that coincidentally aligns with our practice methodology. It takes a lot of time and energy to sift through all of the information out there on how to best approach improving your health, wellbeing and recovery from injury or illness. We can help you cut through the 'hunches, inklings and notions' to identify the evidence-based pathway that will have you bouncing back to your best self. 09.01.2022 Question: How do you continue pursue your passion for tennis while managing an inguinal hernia? Answer: Find an Exercise Physiologist that can coach you to develop the most effective trunk stabilisation strategy to take pressure away from the sight of the hernia. While COVID-19 has thrown a spanner in the works in regard to organised competition, Kevin is back on the court weekly using his new found DNS skills! Here our EP, Molly brings the @physicalindustries strap into good use to ramp up Kevins ability to stabilise through the serving action. #physicalindustriesstrap #returntoplay #returntosport #exercisephysiology #exercisephysiologist #tennistraining #tennisrehab #chapelprecinct #herniainguinal #herniarepair

09.01.2022 This 32 year old was expereincing extreme low back and hip pain, she was unable to run, every day was a struggle. This photo was take 2 months after commencing an Exercise Program with us. She is now capable of running 2-4kms and went skiing for the first this since her injury. In her words, I attribute these successes to you work with me - thank you #injury #exercise #exercisephysiology #recovery #strengthandconditioning #backtorunning #painrelief #skiing #wintersports #exerciseprogram #exerciseroutine #success #appreciation

09.01.2022 As part of a larger Injury Prevention piece, EP Group were engaged by Victoria International Container Terminal to deliver manual handling training across their operations team. It made a lot of sense for us to incorporate DNS strategies in teaching effective trunk stabilisation for workers performing one of the most physically demanding manual roles in existence. These guys are truly industrial athletes! #industrialathlete #manualhandling #dynamicneuromuscularstabilization #onsitetraining @ Port Melbourne, Victoria

08.01.2022 Very high level exercise performed by Steve under the expert tutelage of our EP Stewart Cain. Three times a charm! Awesome balance and control on display. #fitterafter40 #exercisephysiology #southyarra #balancetraining #hipstability #sportspecifictraining

08.01.2022 Nice little mid-distance hit-out for our Running Renegades over the long weekend. Amazing vistas, but more importantly a swathe of different running surfaces to apply constraints and maximise movement variability. There are not many places that offer this gift. Its an amazing way of breaking down your running gait to work out where you can make efficiency gains. Rock, reef, cliff tops, soft sand, trails, caves and a good amount of climbing thrown in. Its hard to go back... to roads after a run like this! Great early preparation for their next race (fingers crossed it will go ahead) #surfcoastcentury . All of these war horses have recovered from significant injury to be in the best shape of their lives. Impressive stuff! #runninglife #runningrehab #movementtraining #movementcoach #trailrunning #trailrunningaustralia #chapelstreetprecinct #exercisephysiology #exercisephysiologist @ The Exercise Physiology Group See more

08.01.2022 And thats a wrap for our 10 week conditioning program for the two @beteasyau teams competing in @thegridmalta obstacle race this Saturday! Whether youre fighting fit or working your way back from an injury, it is vital to set SMART goals to help keep you on track. Its so gratifying to see some of these team members who didnt have a regular exercise habit at the start of the program make leaps forward in their movement vocabulary and physical conditioning to be primed to tackle this event! It helps that we had 2x Olympic Gymnast Ashleigh Brennan as a specialist coach in one of the final sessions. #goalsetting #corporatewellness #obstaclerace #obstacleracetraining

07.01.2022 Our excellent EP Tony Pasquali at it again with a unique exercise for this late 40s self-confessed golf addict with follow-through limiting AC joint osteoarthritis. Here Tony finds an exercise within the clients pain free ROM that: 1. loads the joint to prevent further degeneration 2. demands postural control to maintain sub-acromial space for the internal/external rotation action of the rotator cuff 3. Incorporates the neurocognitive challenge of learning a new skill 4. ...And to top it all off, it looks pretty! #exercisephysiology #exerciserehab #shoulderinjury #shoulderexercises #southyarra #southyarralife #movementtherapy #movementspecialist #movementtraining #shoulderpain #golffitness See more

07.01.2022 Today on the blog we discuss why we believe the best place to start is by identifying the ‘hardest thing’ you do with an efficient and effective movement pattern to guide the session ahead. Sometimes, changing your goal posts to align to what your body can perform that day/week/month brings about a growth mindset. Which, naturally helps you achieve your goals sooner and alleviates distress when adversity comes about. Check out the blog here: https://www.theepgroup.com.au/starting-with-the-hardest-th/

06.01.2022 Constraints-led training is that much more interesting when there is an element of danger (or at least negative feedback!). Using the #vipr with medicine ball balanced on top in this exercise really drives precision motor learning to adopt whole system stabilisation strategies. An excellent exercise for incorporating trunk stabilisation into scap control/ shoulder rehab. #thehardestthingyoudowell #chapelstprecinct #chapelstreetprecinct #movementtraining #movementspecialist #movementcoach #exercisephysiologist #shoulderpain #shoulderinjury #shoulderimpingement #shoulderrehab #scapularstability

05.01.2022 Another great session at @ictsi_south_pacific Victoria International Container Terminal taking new recruits to the Operations Team through our Manual Handling and Injury Prevention Training Package. Incorporating the teaching of DNS and a cutting edge pre-start muscle activation program into this package has all but eliminated the common shoulder, cervical spine, thoracic spine and lower back complaints that were plaguing this cohort prior to implementation. An injury prevention program is a productivity boosting program is a cost-fighting program is an employee retention program #industrialathlete #dynamicneuromuscularstabilization #injuryprevention #muscleactivation #workplacewellness #workplaceinjury #movementtraining #movementcoach #workinjury @ Port Melbourne, Victoria

05.01.2022 The Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilisation approach provides functional tools to assess and activate the intrinsic spinal stabilizers in order to optimise the movement system for both prehab and rehab of athletic injuries and performance. This is a young ballet dancer working with the EP Group DNS instructor Tony Pasquali on her pli in 4 month old supine. #southyarra #dynamicneuromuscularstabilization #exercisephysiology #danceinjury #danceinjuryprevention

05.01.2022 Hows this as a cleverly disguised end-stage shoulder rehab exercise? This is our Polo athlete who was suffering shoulder impingement. Following our constraints-led methodology, we started him off on a 75cm @ironedgetraining plyo box and the ability to touch any body part on the obstacle while traversing it. In the footage you can see we progressed him through to the 105cm height, limiting him to a hand support as he traverses the obstacle. I think its fair to say hes good to #returntoplay if he can stabilise effectively through this motor control challenge! #southyarra #exercisephysiologist #movementspecialist #movementcoach #shoulderinjury #shoulderimpingement #returntosport

03.01.2022 Heres a nice Infographic to help us understand the difference between eating whole grains and refined grains.

02.01.2022 Cycling tragic and avid weekend warrior Mark, working his way back from a fall resulting in vertebral and rib fractures. Here our EP Ashleigh Brennan is taking Mark through trunk stabilisation exercises with a DNS basis to accelerate his progression back to a full training volume. #dynamicneuromuscularstabilization #cyclinginjury #sportsrehab #returntosport
