24.01.2022 World Environment Day 5th June 2020 On this day people from all over the world can do something positive to help our planet. What could you do? Lots of little things can make a big difference. Today we read Greta and the Giants, a re-imagining of the story of Greta Thunberg fighting climate change. The giants are chipping down trees but after Greta holds a sign saying STOP, more join her until the giants begin to be less wasteful and stop chopping down the forest. ... Then we read Change starts with us to give some ideas of simple changes we can make to help save the planet, like riding a bike or choosing food without plastic wrapping. The children were eager to share ways they could help the environment and Katy encouraged them to share their ideas using a black marker to draw and then narrate their images to her. Our preschool children were able to share their ideas visually and in words, connecting abstract concepts and hopefully learning their own power. At Explore & Develop Lilyfield we will continue to empower our children to make small changes to how they live, to protect and nurture our environment. Our curriculum invites children to use their voice to encourage broader change in how society is managing the climate crises we face.
