25.01.2022 The Sequential Oral Sensory (SOS) Approach to Feeding is a program to help fussy eaters increase the range and types of foods they will explore. Depending on the age of the child, either a play based program or a food science approach can be used to help them reengage with food in a fun and social setting. Lauren and Rhonda are both trained in the SOS Approach and can offer 1:1 sessions or group sessions at Explore Therapy. Over the next few weeks we will highlight some of the key points of the SOS Approach to help you determine if the program would be beneficial for your fussy eater. #exploretherapy #speechpathology #speechtherapy #occupationaltherapy #OT #earlyintervention #therapy #intervention #NDIS #SOS #fussyeating #pickyeater

15.01.2022 Is your child a Picky Eater or a Problem Feeder? Picky eaters and their parents/carers may require some general hints and tips to help their child increase the range and type of food they eat. A problem feeder is more likely to benefit from an SOS Approach to Feeding program. If you have any questions, please contact Rhonda or Lauren at Explore Therapy. #NDIS #pickyeater #problemfeeder #OT #SP #occupationaltherapy #speechpathology #food #earlyintervention #additionalneeds #se...nsoryneeds #disability #SOS #SOSapproach http://sosapproach-conferences.com//picky-eaters-vs-probl/

15.01.2022 Sometimes eating is not as instinctive for children as we expect it to be. For some children it is a challenge to coordinate the oral motor skills required for chewing and swallowing food safely. For some children the sensory experience of eating (lot's of different smells, colours and textures) can be overwhelming. When eating is not safe or enjoyable, children frequently resist it. Dr. Kay Toomey addresses 10 Myths to Mealtimes in America (which we can generalise to here in... Australia) and helps us deconstruct our traditional beliefs about mealtimes. #NDIS #food #mealtimes #children #kids #fussyeating #sensory #SOS #SOSapproach #earlyintervention #exploretherapy #OT #SP #occupationaltherapy #speechpathology #exploretherapy http://sosapproach-conferences.com//top-ten-myths-of-meal/

04.01.2022 The Sequential Oral Sensory (SOS) Approach to Feeding Program has been developed over the course of 20 years by Dr. Kay Toomey (Paediatric Psychologist) and associates in the United States of America. The SOS Approach to Feeding is used worldwide to assess and treat feeding issues with infants, children and adolescents. The SOS Approach is a transdisciplinary approach where a range of clinicians such as Occupational Therapists, Speech Pathologists, Paediatricians and Dieticia...ns work collaboratively together to address a child's oral motor skills, nutritional needs, sensory needs, medical conditions, and behavioural/learning factors to teach the skills required for eating. The SOS Approach is based on typical developmental milestones, stages, and steps and aims to move the child through a foundational hierarchy of skills to eating. The program allows the child to play and engage with food in a non-confrontational manner, and to explore a range of food textures, colours and nutrition requirements. #SOS #picky #fussy #pickyeater #fussyeater #NDIS #melbourne #OT #SP #occupationaltherapy #speechpathology #earlyintervention #sensory #food #exploretherapy

A few of our families have reported that they are a fantastic tool for developing their child's independence in packing their bag ready for school, or making sure they have everything they need in their bag at the end of a school day. Let us know what you think when you go back to face-to-face learning! https://www.remindables.com.au/

03.01.2022 Your child may present with one or two red flags in relation to their eating and meal time habits. The main red flags parents discuss with us include: - their child's aversion or avoidance of all foods in specific texture or nutrition group - their child has a food range of less than 20 foods... - their child 'drops' foods over time with no new foods replacing those lost - the family is fighting about food and meal times are battles If you are concerned about any of your child's fussy eating habits and are considering enrolling them in an SOS Food School, please contact Rhonda or Lauren at Explore Therapy. #NDIS #OT #SP #occupationaltherapy #SOS #sosapproach #sosfoodschool #earlyintervention #fussyeaters #pickyeaters #sensory #foodaversion #therapy #melbourne #exploretherapy http://sosapproach-conferences.com/resources/red-flags/
