25.01.2022 Whether you’re dealing with backtalk, or what feels like a never-ending meltdown, knowing how to stay calm (parental regulation) is the most important (and often most difficult) part of handling the situation. An escalated adult CANNOT de-escalate an escalated child. Period. Here are some tips for parental regulation: https://hes-extraordinary.com/how-to-stay-calm-when-your-ch Credit: Raising An Extraordinary Person

25.01.2022 Sometimes you just need to change things up a bit and get MOVING! I encourage parents to let go of their inhibitions and do this with your children! Be dramatic, theatrical, actively involved and enjoy it, your children will love your involvement. https://hes-extraordinary.com/improve-emotional-regulation- Thanks Raising An Extraordinary Person

To test the theory the Juniors experimented with eggs in water with different levels of salt. The Children recorded their findings through drawing what they observed.... What you need - 1 x cup of fresh water - 1 x cup of water with 1 tsp of salt - 1 x cup of water with 2 tablespoons of salt - Whole egg to test The Findings - No salt = Egg sank - 1 x teaspoon of salt = Egg sank - 2 x tablespoons of salt = Egg Floated

19.01.2022 Today we were invited by EYA Childcare Avalon Preschool and Long Day Care to be "Guest" readers via Zoom! Zoom has been such a vital tool in our community lately and was exciting for the Children to use and celebrate Book. Educator Sarah from EYA Avalon read to the Children "Little Red Riding Hood" story to the Thurgoona Children and then Educator Christie from Thurgoona read "The Problem with Problems" story to Avalon Children. Thank you to EYA Childcare Avalon Preschool and Long Day Care!

18.01.2022 Today in the Toddler room the Children experimented using straws and bubbly water as a method of painting! First the Children worked together with their Educator to mix the ingredients together to make water paint and dish washing liquid, deciding on colours that looked like the ocean! Next it was exploring the use of a straw to create the bubbles. This method of painting involved a cause and effect experiment using straws, liquid, and their own breaths. This required a lot of practice on the children’s behalf, becoming aware of how their lungs work breathing in through their nose and pushing air out through the straw. Once the Children mastered this technique it was time to put it to the test!

05.01.2022 Did you know that Blubber is a thick layer of fat under the skin and is how whales stay warm? The Juniors have been discussing the cold weather and how some of our ocean animals survive in such conditions without jumpers! Juniors decided to experiment on making their own blubber. First we used iced water, a zip lock bag, with nothing inside this. This represented our skin with no blubber. The Children could feel the freezing cold water. Next, we filled the ziplock bag with v...egetable shortening then wrapped the bag around our hand acting as blubber! Sticking our blubber covered hand in the water the children could feel the difference. #scienceweek #deepblueinovation

03.01.2022 We need to empower our children to be able to make decisions around consent. Sometimes they dont have a choice (to not run across the road, eat the dogs food, hold your hand in a car park, etc) but we can phrase our words in way that helps them learn and understand.
