10.01.2022 RETINOPATHY OF PREMATURITY AND ITS IMPACT Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) is an eye condition that affects some premature babies. It occurs when blood vessels on the surface of the retina don’t develop properly. If not detected early on, retinopathy of prematurity can lead to irreversible blindness. Ongoing monitoring by a Paediatric Ophthalmologist is mandatory and most cases resolve and don’t require treatment. In 90% of cases, ROP disappears and sight is preserved but so...me severe cases may need laser treatment.
