20.01.2022 EYE COMFORT & GLARE The sun’s brightness and glare interferes with comfortable vision and the ability to see clearly, causes squinting, and your eyes to water. Eyestrain can also lead to headaches. All Maui Jim sunglasses are polarised and therefore eliminate 99.9% of glare. This also reduces the impact of the sun’s brightness and allows your eyes to stay relaxed. Without the need to squint and strain, you can avoid eye fatigue, excessive wrinkling around the eyes, and even headaches. #optometrist #Dalby #Glaresensitivity

20.01.2022 Big thanks to Myall Medical Practice for keeping the ECEW team healthy and safe during the pandemic, and taking on this program for our local community. We’ll take needles over Covid any day

18.01.2022 Glare sensitivity got you feeling ouchie? If you have a natural light sensitivity, protecting your eyes with sunglasses and a broad-brimmed hat can help alleviate your symptoms. Your optometrist may recommend polarised sunglasses, or special contact lenses designed to help people cope with light sensitivity. #dalby #westerndowns #protectyoureyes

18.01.2022 Increased light sensitivity can be linked to a range of other serious eye complications, including retinal detachment and corneal abrasion. It can also be associated with eye infections, including conjunctivitis. If you notice any sudden changes to your vision, including light sensitivity, book an appointment with your optometrist so that you can receive the correct diagnosis and treatment. Photosensitivity can also be linked with a number of serious health conditions, including meningitis. #dalby #chinchilla #optometrist

18.01.2022 Dementia Awareness Month Dementia causes a variety of changes in the brain, including how the eyes see and how the brain processes the information the eyes bring in. Different types of dementia can damage the visual system in a different way, and the specific difficulties a person may experience will depend of the type and severity of the dementia they have.... Some difficulties may include *Less able to detect movement *Changes to the visual field *Changes to how the pupils react to light *Problems with the recognition of objects, faces and colours. *Losing the ability to say what has been seen. *Double vision These difficulties can have a big impact on the person with dementia. They have have trouble locating people or objects, difficulties with hobbies such as reading and writing, misinterpreting reflections, mistaking images on the TV for real people, Having difficulties positioning themselves and bumping into things, becoming confused or restless because the environment is visually over-stimulating and is difficult to navigate. To support someone with visuoperceptual difficulties as a result of dementia, arrange regular eye checks with their optometrist. If the person wears glasses check that they are clean and are the correct prescription, encourage the person to wear the glasses. It may be helpful to have separate glasses for distance and reading, colour coding these glasses can be helpful too ie, red glasses for reading, black glasses for watching TV. #dalby #chinchilla #optometrist

17.01.2022 One of the worst things about being a glasses wearer is having to deal with the embarrassing issue of your glasses fogging up when going from warm to cold environments and vice versa. This can generally be a problem for those with certain job roles or hobbies, such as chefs or kitchen staff in steamy environments, or cyclists or runners during intense exercise! It's important to keep our glasses clean and you may want to invest in some anti-fog lens spray or wipes to keep the...m from steaming up when you’re in the middle of important task. The effect of the antifog won’t last forever but they can help to prevent a few awkward moments. If you are looking for a more permanent solution ask us about our anti-reflective coatings that not only reduce glare, repels dust and water, and is scratch resitent - but also offer anti-fog properties too. #Dalby #optometrist

14.01.2022 Thinking about making the switch to contact lenses? With the help of the latest technology in corneal mapping, the Eyecare Eyewear optometry team can create a custom contact lens to fit almost all prescriptions. Keratoconus is a condition that causes thinning of the cornea (front surface of the eye) resulting in a cone-like shape instead of the normally round shape. As the condition progresses, vision becomes more distorted and cannot be improved with spectacles alone.... In most cases a rigid gas permeable lens can be custom designed to provide optimal vision correction. Astigmatism is a common condition where the optical power of the eye varies depending on the angle of light passing through it resulting in blurred vision at all distances. It is usually due to the cornea (front surface of the eye) being irregular in shape. The contact lens options for astigmatism can include soft and rigid contact lenses. See more

12.01.2022 You’ve probably already heard that carrots keep your eyes healthy and improve your vision, some say they even help you see in the dark. The association between carrots and eye health originated from a myth during World War 2, and while they aren’t quite the magical eye food they were marketed to be during WW2, they do contain certain compounds that may benefit your eyes. Carrots are good sources of lutein and beta carotene, which are antioxidants that benefit eye health... and protect against age-related degenerative eye diseases. Your body converts beta carotene into vitamin A, a nutrient that helps you see in the dark. Aside from their contributions to eye health, there are many reasons to eat carrots. They can benefit your digestive system, as well as heart, skin, and overall health.

09.01.2022 Top 5 Benefits of Contact Lenses * Contacts conform to the curvature of your eye, providing a wider field of view and causing less vision distortions and obstructions than eyeglasses. * Contact lenses don't get in the way when playing sports and exercising. * Contact lenses won't clash with what you're wearing.... * Contacts typically aren't affected by weather conditions and won't fog up in cold weather like glasses. * Some contact lenses can reshape your cornea while you sleep. Overnight orthokeratology (Ortho-k) temporarily corrects myopia, so you can see clearly the next day without the need for glasses or contacts. #dalby #chinchilla #optometrist

09.01.2022 Spring is here and many of us are getting out and active in warmer weather. Some of our patients have come to see us over the past few weeks as they are starting a new fitness regime, diving in the pool or jumping into that new aerobics class and are wanting to make the switch from glasses to contacts. Unlike glasses, contact lenses won't slip down your face if you're sweaty, or bounce up and down while you're running or working out. They're great for fast-paced sports that require you to be at your most agile because they improve vision stability and give you a wider field of vision. #dalby #chinchilla #optometrist

08.01.2022 After receiving vision therapy treatment for vision problems, younger patients usually notice that they are able to improve school grades. They are often able to catch and hit balls more accurately. Generally self confidence improves and they are able to attend to tasks for longer. Adults often become more confident when driving and notice improved efficiency doing office work. Most people find they read more easily and enjoy reading more. With our new team member, Natalie, we are now able to offer more Vision Therapy Appointments to our patients. Give us a call today and get the ball rolling.

08.01.2022 International Coffee Day Caffeine is a natural (and really delicious) way of getting us to spring into energy mode, as it stimulates our brain and helps us feel awake and alert (just like putting your contact lenses in after your morning shower). In fact, moderate levels of caffeine can be good for your vision in many different ways: from coffee soothing dry eyes to protecting eyes against retinal damage. But as with everything, overdoing it could have negative effects for your eye health, both short and long term. #optometry #chinchilla #optometrist

03.01.2022 We had a really interesting case come in the other day, where a school aged child was attacked by a magpie. Tom checked the young boys vision and eye pressure and looked at the back of his eye, and fortunately for him, everything was ok and the maggie only managed to graze his top eyelid. Sunglasses are not only beneficial to protect against UV rays, they could also help protect your eyes this swooping season
