Asian food is hands down my favourite cuisine but if you are not careful, you can easily make the mistake of thinking that you are eating quite healthy when in actual fact you are NOT! Here are my 3 tips when it comes to enjoying Asian food. . 1. Go easy on the rice and noodles! For most people, this is usually the largest portion on the plate/bowl. A good rule is to divide your plate/bowl i...nto four and rice/noodles should only be 1/4 of this. Juno, 100g of most noodles has 40g of carbs? Swipe left for pic. 2. TASTE your food before you add the fish sauce, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, chilli sauce, oyster sauce, sweet soy sauce or ANY SAUCE! Firstly, juno that Brown rice, Jasmine Rice and Basmati Rice have similar amounts of calories, carbohydrates, and protein!? . Growing up in an Asian family, Jasmine Rice was our only option and we ate a lot of it!! Juno, under the Australian guidelines, serving of rice is only HALF A CUP!? . Fast forward to over 30 years later and our whole family now alternates between Brown and Basmati Rice and Jasmine ...Rice is saved for special occasions only. . Why have we made the switch? . My mum has recently been diagnosed with Diabetes type 2. Even though all three types of rice have very similar nutritional value, the difference is in the glycemic index. This is a ranking system that classifies carb-containing foods by their effect on blood sugar levels. . GI values are generally divided into three categories: . * Low GI: 1 to 55 * Medium GI: 56 to 69 * High GI: 70 and higher . Foods with a low-GI are digested and absorbed more slowly, which prevents large spikes in blood sugar after consumption. . On the other hand, food with a high GI are more quickly digested and absorbed, resulting in a rapid rise and fall of blood sugar levels. . . She says I’m 57 years old and as you get older, it’s very easy to fall into habits. Also, she had a lot of things going on, got really sick and lost motivation . . What helped this time was the constant support I received from Jono and Trinh. Jono would do a weekly checkup and Trinh would help me with the workouts, doing some of them with me. Angela found that the... website was very easy to follow. For example, the instructions on how to do an exercise. She loved the food recipes. She has a set of favourites she makes constantly. . . She has: Reduced body fat mainly in her face, arms and midsection. Gained strength in her legs, abdominals and chest eg. At week 1 she could only do a total of 10 pushups on her knees and now she can do 3 sets of 20 for a total of 60. Her technique and form has improved dramatically especially in the burpees and lungs Increased range of movement particularly in the lunge and squat . . The turning point for Ange was when she turned 50. She felt unhealthy. Her clothes didn’t fit anymore and she struggled to walk for long periods. 05.01.2022 Simone is one of our poster girls because she lives and breathes DIYPT. She truly does the training and nutrition herself (with our guidance and support, of course) as she has the drive, passion and a massive WHY. Her why is her baby girl Bella and now their new child on the way. Join me in congratulating her and her husband Matt on their second kid. This is one of the many client stories Im extremely proud about as Sim and I did the impossible.... .... When I first met Sim and asked her why she wanted to train with me, she said her goal was to have a child because she had been told when she was in her early 20s that this probably wasnt on the cards. Sim has Epilepsy, and was diagnosed when she was 5. Shes been on high amounts of medication daily since then and because of the amounts she was on during puberty, it was going to be unlikely that she could carry a child. After an appointment with Sims neurologist, they decided to slowly decrease her meds in the hopes that she might be able to fall pregnant. This is when Sim started training with me, as she wanted to be as healthy as possible to give the pregnancy and future child the best chance. 4 years later here we are and theyre having their second. For a 60kg sedentary female, you should aim to have 106 grams of protein a day. . . Most of us ladies DONT have enough protein in our diet and we tend to focus on only reducing our carbs when we are trying to lose weight. .... . After I gave birth to Dom, it took me over TWO YEARS to get back to my pre pregnancy weight. I was always exhausted and found it extremely difficult to stay on top of anything. . . Im soooo proud of you, by not only your performance but how well you did through our 10 week camp. This is called the process. .... . Most people give up through the process or do it half heartedly. They say they want to be a lion, but theyre not willing to do what lions do! . . However, you were a lion plus so much more. I had to constantly keep checking up on you so you wouldnt do more than the program I set out for you. You craved more and more from the process, it was uncanny. . . From my experience being a Boxer, a lot of fighters quit during the process and get cold feet, because its not just a physical challenge but a psychological one as well. . . 04.01.2022 Why do we love sand dune training? . There is less stress on the joints when you engage in sand training exercises. Sand dune training will increase your muscles resistance to fatigue. Sand dune training enhances mental preparation for difficult tasks (a big for me because thoughts are powerful). Training on sand improves overall running (Jono and I did two sessions before the City2Surf and I honestly felt that it really helped me get through my first City2Surf).... . Doms little legs took us all by surprise as he completed rounds of this super steep sand dune which was even more difficult than it looks! . Next time when you decide to chill out at the beach with the family or some friends, why not challenge yourself a climb up some sand dunes or jog to the end of the beach before jumping into the refreshing water! .
