24.01.2022 What Victoria Police would like most for Christmas is for everyone to get home safely. Operation Roadwise continues until Wednesday 6th of January 2021, and aims to reduce the incidence and severity of road trauma during the Christmas and New Year period, one of the busiest times of the year on Victoria’s roads. This includes targeting excessive speed, drink and drug driving, driver distraction, fatigue and seatbelt offences. Some of our key messages continue to be: ... In the lead up to Christmas, Victoria Police will have a strong focus on impaired driving. If you’re having a few drinks at your work or at a social Christmas function, make sure you’ve planned how to get home without driving. People will be celebrating together differently this year. Many people will be consuming alcohol in locations where it is more difficult to keep track of how many standard drinks you have had. Places such as parks, workplaces and in private residences. It is better to be safe than sorry. It is not worth being caught, or worse seriously injuring or killing yourself, your mates, or an innocent road user. Let us be clear - police will be out breath testing across the state, if you drive while impaired, we will not hesitate to hold you to account. We want everyone to enjoy time with their family and friends, but we also want everyone from your family present at the Christmas table this year. All we ask is that you slow down, drive carefully and think twice about others. #OperationRoadwise

Some of our key messages continue to be: Regional Victoria remains a high risk of trauma (higher speed limits, longer distances, influx of visitors over summer) With international borders still closed, people may choose to travel throughout Victoria instead. If you’re driving long distances, take regular breaks and where possible share the driving to avoid fatigue. Victoria Police will continue have a strong focus on impaired driving. 16.01.2022 Scams cost Australians over $630 million last year in Australia One type of scam is the invoice scams, a business or individual receives an emailed invoice from a supplier whose email account has been compromised by a criminal. The criminal has been able to alter the payment details on the invoice to an account they control. As the invoice looks legitimate, the recipient may not question the payment details, and send the payment to the account controlled by the criminal. Of...ten the contact number on the invoice has also been altered. Another variation of an invoice scam is when a business receives a request from a supplier to cancel a recent payment or update the bank account details held on file, and is asked to make the payment to a new account. Criminals target email communication as it’s a common way individuals and business exchange information. For criminals, email is a scalable way to target many people at one time, but can also be used to target individuals in a spear-phishing attack. Criminals want their messages to appear genuine, so they’re specifically created to trick the recipient into taking some sort of action. These messages may be sent from: A contact that you know but the request is unusual or requesting a change of account details or payment to a new bank account. a simple email address such as ‘[email protected]’ an email address very similar to the senior business person the criminal is impersonating, but with a slight variation which is easy to miss. For example [email protected] instead of [email protected]. what appears to be the correct email address, but when you reply, the email is sent to a different reply-to address Payment redirection scams Using information they have obtained by hacking your computer systems, a scammer posing as one of your regular suppliers will tell you that their banking details have changed. They may tell you they have recently changed banks, and may use stolen letterhead and branding to convince you they are legitimate. They will provide you with a new bank account number and ask that all future payments are processed accordingly. The scam is often only detected when your regular supplier asks why they have not been paid. If you or your business is requested to change payment to a new bank account DO NOT until you have called not emailed the payee. More information about detecting and reporting scams can be found here at: Scamwatch: https://bddy.me/3mMLbiP eSafety Commissioner: https://bddy.me/3hhkCko
