21.01.2022 "Jesus replied, 'A man was once on his way down from Jerusalem to Jericho and fell into the hands of brigands ... a Samaritan traveller who came upon him was moved with compassion when he saw him. He went up and bandaged his wounds, pouring oil and wine on them. He then lifted him on to his own mount, carried him to the inn and looked after him. Next day, he took out two denarii and handed them to the innkeeper. 'Look after him,' he said 'and on my way back I will make good any extra expense you have.'" (Luke 10:30-35)

18.01.2022 As we conclude the Season of Creation, let us pray this beautiful Canticle from St Francis of Assisi. Be praised, my Lord, through all your creatures, especia...lly through my lord Brother Sun, who brings the day; and you give light through him. And he is beautiful and radiant in all his splendour! Of you, Most High, he bears the likeness. Be praised, my Lord, through Sister Moon and the stars; in the heavens you have made them, precious and beautiful. Be praised, my Lord, through Brothers Wind and Air, and clouds and storms, and all the weather, through which you give your creatures sustenance. Be praised, My Lord, through Sister Water; she is very useful, and humble, and precious, and pure. Be praised, my Lord, through Brother Fire, through whom you brighten the night. He is beautiful and cheerful, and powerful and strong. Be praised, my Lord, through our sister Mother Earth, who feeds us and rules us and produces various fruits with coloured flowers and herbs. Be praised, my Lord, through those who forgive for love of you; through those who endure sickness and trial. Happy those who endure in peace, for they will be crowned. ~ St. Francis of Assisi

09.01.2022 St THERESE OF THE CHILD JESUS 1873-1897 (St Therese of Lisieux) Therese Martin was the youngest of a loving family of Alencon and, later, Liseux, in France,. Their mother’s death brought a difficult time when Therese was aged four.... Therese wanted to join her older sisters who were all Carmelite nuns. With special permission, she entered Carmel in April 1888, aged fifteen, but died of tuberculosis, aged 24. In her last year, at the request of her prioress, Therese wrote an autobiography. The nun writing her obituary could think of little to write, as Therese did not stand out and was not greatly noticed in the convent community. Her memoirs were eventually published and, although written in a sentimental style popular in the 19th century, Therese’s ‘The Story of a Soul’ has found its place among great spiritual classics. LITTLENESS, HUMILITY AND GOD'S UNFAILING LOVE were themes of Therese’s spirituality: ***to remain little is to recognize one’s nothingness, expecting everything from the good God, as a little child expects everything from his father. Humility is truth she said, as it is important to see ourselves as we really are. Therese understood that God’s love upheld her in spite of faults and weaknesses, which brought her closer to God. Therese always tried to love other people as Jesus loved them. ***Prayer for me is an upward leap of the heart, an untroubled glance toward heaven, a grateful and loving cry from the deepest depth of sorrow as well as form the height of joy. ***Never before have I felt so strongly how gently and merciful God is, for he sent me this cross at precisely the time I was strong enough to bear it. (Therese of Lisieux, ‘The Story of a Soul’)

05.01.2022 ST THERESE OF THE CHILD JESUS ('Therese of Lisieux') 1st October "The disciples came to Jesus and said, ‘Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?’ So he called a little child to him and set the child in front of them. Then he said, ‘I tell you solemnly, unless you change and become like little children you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. And so, the ones who make themselves as little as this child are greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Anyone who welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me.’" (Matthew 18:1-5)
