25.01.2022 The Oceans fury Tumultuous Turning Twisting Crashing ... Burning Ferocious Thoughts Plummeting to ocean floor Chaos . Anger rising from stomach pits We’re told not to feel it Burning deep Spitting onto nearby rocky spaces Spraying salty savage On innocent interactions . We hold it Breathe into it Let it go . For it’s the peace Well it’s Cultivated Harnessed Grown and nourished Besides still waters Despite the oceans fury . It’s that place we fall back to By carving out space and time Placing up boundaries Holding roots firm in worried hands Pushing down deep in the earths core Building the house on rock For sand is fickle . We hold firm against the tides and the 40 knot winds We bare down We root down We hold strong We wait Till the howling winds Cease . We Be Still Whilst the ocean fury Loosens It’s Grip For When peace is lost To Peace we return . . . #spokenwordpoetry
08.01.2022 Will you accept my subtle side? The side that just wants to be nurtured and held The side that deeply appreciates your walking on the side of the cars So I can be safe Will you accept my fragile side?... The side that’s scared and worried and anxious for things that seem silly My gentle nurturing side? Not the bold brash bravado I hide behind Will you hold that side? In the palm of your hand and speak soft words of love and adoration The woman side The feminine side The gentle side The side that mourns the seeming loss of chivalry The side that loves my bag to be carried The side that wishes someone else to make decisions For I grow weary of making them, affecting change and carrying loads bigge r than my boots can carry Will you hold that side? And the spaces between each of the sides we show And the sides we hide **** * * * * Today’s International Woman’s Day and I wanted or reflect on the sides of a woman and the role of a man I’m reminded of how glorious it is to be brave and bold as a woman and also how beautiful it is to be tender. I long for independence as much as the next girl, but I also love to encourage men to walk in their giftings and hold space as a ‘man’. Whatever that looks like. I know this is a weighty topic but we were created differently and I’m so proud to be a woman but I’m also proud of our men. In an age where the push for equality may have confused our men, I’m really all for chivalry and gentlemen-ness. As I too, strive to be a gentle-lady. This is not not because woman are not capable, but because they actually are, and the boys still do it. As mothers this is important to teach on and as a woman it’s important to allow men to step into those spaces (perhaps with a little prompting at times). So here’s to women on International Women’s Day and here’s to our men too! #internationalwomensday2020 #powertowomen #powertomen
08.01.2022 What Makes Faith Speaks unique:- There are any number of beautiful gatherings in the spoken word scene in Melbourne. When it comes around to having conversations about faith and spiritual journey, these topics are always inherently personal.... With that in mind, Eva and myself have run Faith Speaks" as a hosted and curated event instead of an open mic evening. The reason for this is twofold. It gives us opportunity to invite and honour individuals who we esteem for their integrity, creative talent and personal story. Secondly and perhaps more importantly, it gives our performers and our audience a space to share these ideas in a way that is vulnerable, honest, yet safe and dignifying. We have had a few Faith Speaks gatherings already and this upcoming night is going to be a special interfaith evening. The hope is to begin a broader conversation between people of diverse walks and views. We have invited performers that we love, have journeyed alongside and we are certain you will love them as well. We anticipate the upcoming Faith Speaks evening will be deep, rich and really gracious. On behalf of Eva, myself and the rest of the Faith Speaks crew, we would love to have you along to share some tea, coffee, mulled wine, beautiful company and deep and personal story. Love to all, John E
