25.01.2022 The Buloke Times published an article authored by Glenn Falla, Hunting & Conservation Manager at FGA. Hunters United campaign held near Lake Buloke in Donald w...as a big success. There is definitely no denying the fact that hunters make the best conservationists. 24.01.2022 TEAL TALK. In today’s episode of Duck Season Somewhere, long-time friends Mike Morgan and Ramsey Russell meet across the table to talk teal hunting. Spending a... little time to talk about teal worldwide, they quickly transition to blue-winged teal hunting in the Deep South, a favorite of theirs. Mike then remembers an incredible Peruvian cinnamon teal hunt they filmed together for Mojo. What other teal species are there worldwide? What's the real relationship among blue-winged teal, cinnamon teal, green-winged teal and shovelers? What's so special about blue-winged teal, how are they hunted and what habitats do they prefer? Why is cinnamon teal hunting in Peru so incredible, and what did Mike and Ramsey discover while there that ranks foremost on their lists of "craziest thing ever encountered while hunting?!" This recording is from the very last time these two buddies visited and was provided courtesy of Mojo TV. Episode available on all podcasts apps. 22.01.2022 As we move ever closer to the 2021 Duck Season we are asking for all members to write ‘Your Story’ to your local MP. It is your story that is compelling. Your f...amilies traditions that need to be continued. Your passion needs to get in front of our politicians, so this weekend please spend 30 minutes and tell your story. Ask yourself this What does duck hunting mean to me? If you can answer that question with authenticity and passion, your story will be compelling. Share your stories on social media using the hashtag : #australiasmostsurprisingconservationists A full list of Victorian MPs and their contact details can be found here: https://www.parliament.vic.gov.au//member/list-all-members

21.01.2022 WARREN COCO spent over a decade hunting ducks in the enchanted Maurepas Swamp. Some years were better than others. Countless memorable times were spent in the t...hen-magical place, nights spent in floating camphouse in middle of swamp, mornings spent in tight, 30 yard-wide holes among towering, Spanish moss veiled cypress trees. The paradise vanished abruptly, because nature is always changing, and Coco found himself "on the outside looking in" where duck hunting was concerned. But not for long. Because people like Coco are doers. How'd Coco move a floating duck camp that had been given back to its original owner? What befell Maurepas Swamp duck hunting? What was it about hunting "Frank's Blind" in southwestern Louisiana that Coco never forgot? Why was it so hard to become a landowner in Hackberry, and what "once-in-a-million-lifetimes event" transpired? More great stories as we continue the Warren Coco Got Devil series in this week's Duck Season Somewhere. 19.01.2022 So today we thought we might post a thought provoking picture and seek some knowledge from our followers. We encourage people to describe what you see in this p...hotograph. Nature has a wonderful way of showing us what’s occurring here, but we’d like to see how many people recognise the signs and educate those who don’t yet know. Please comment below. We will follow up and share what we know later on as it’s an important part of the puzzle we are looking for help with. $$$. It’s a moulting site for Black Swans and Mountain duck. Due to their inability to fly during moulting the bank shows erosion from puddling birds scampering up to roost. Feathers are plentiful due to moulting$$$. #australiasmostsurprisingconservationists #DescribeWhatYouSee

19.01.2022 A fitting tribute to one of Australia’s most influential conservationist when it comes to wetlands. Tom will be sadly missed by many and we can only hope to do... him proud in the future by carrying on more work in a similar vein. Take the time to read this article and remember the great work completed by hunter conservationists in Australia.

19.01.2022 It’s a Falla thing... If we need to explain it to you, most likely you won’t understand it anyway and that’s ok, all we ask is that you leave us to to what we were born to do without any prejudice. We don’t tell you how to live your life, don’t bother trying to tell us how to live ours.... Proud to be a hunter, always have been and always will be. #australiasmostsurprisingconservationists

17.01.2022 Well, nobody is more excited to show images of the recent Ibis breeding grounds or Rookery at Reedy Lake Geelong than Field and Game Geelong branch President ...Trent Leen. Pictured here are just a few of the many birds busily breeding and adding to their numbers. Witnessed recently whilst conducting the FGA November Waterfowl Counts completed every year by our dedicated volunteers. As the regional coordinator of the counts, Trent witnessed this breeding event personally and captured the images attached. Combined with the extraordinary breeding of various duck species and parrots, it’s been an exceptional year and one to record. And record Trent has, trail camera footage has been captured of the many species breeding and predation by foxes and crows. The work Trent has conducted in recent years in conjunction with Deakin University and Professor Marcel Klaassen along with his team is incredible. Geelong Field and Game is fortunate to have such a dedicated leader, who continues to contribute in ways never attempted before. Thank you Trent Leen from Field and Game Australia for your tenacity and commitment that inspires others around you. If you would like to be a part of future projects, contact Field and Game Australia’s Hunting and Conservation Manager - Glenn Falla @[email protected] to express your interest. Trent and the Geelong branch would love to have YOU volunteer your time to assist and as we all know, many hands make light work. The Connewarre Wetland Centre takes many volunteer hours to maintain and the various wetland projects engulf even more time and effort. Without a dedicated team behind him, Trent will not be able to continue the growth of projects at the rate in which he would like. Help those who help us, with your assistance we can continue to achieve great things. Volunteer TODAY

16.01.2022 HOME. Beyond dead ducks, it’s what duck hunting means to me that matters most. Familiar haunts with family, friends, their laughs and stories, failures and triu...mphs, good and bad. Retrievers that have long-since proven themselves, shaking off the wet, poising themselves for more. Battered decoys. Old boats. Scratched shotguns, like grandad’s old battle axe, the only one he used back in the really good ol’ days. Worn waxed jackets reeking of melted crayons. No differently than long-handled claw hammers to house framers, like file sharpened hoes to gardeners, all proven tools of the trade. Valued mostly for utility. And for connections, conduits to past and present. Shouldering old shotguns, somehow connecting with preceding generations, and handing off to your kids so that somehow they somehow connect too. Because maybe it’s important. Maybe more important than anything else. At least to me, it’s a proven sense of home. And home is who we are. 12.01.2022 Here is a bit of info about the Feral Feast book from Barabool Hills Landcare group. Barrabool Hills lies west of Geelong in Victoria. Our Feral Feast recipe bo...ok was crafted in 2016 by the Barrabool Hills Landcare community for a number of reasons. Firstly we wanted to celebrate our 21 st birthday with a bang hence there are 21 recipes in the book. Secondly we thought it was important that our community, many newly arrived, understood the role that the Barrabool Hills, and nearby Barwon Park, played in the release of European rabbits into the Australian environment, to wreak havoc across the nation. Thirdly it was a way of engaging a broader group of people in our activities:- a chief, a photographer, an editor and an artist . to name a few. and build the capacity of our community And finally it was heaps of fun, and something new and boy have we learnt a lot! Apart from the printing and final setting out, we did everything else ourselves as volunteers. The research, writing, testing of recipes, food preparation, photography and illustrations. The seed funding came from our own group, and all profits are returned to the group for our projects, including a major annual rabbit baiting program supported by 100 landholders. The book is in its third print!! Hope you enjoy it. PS - The terrine is to die for!! The recipe book is glossy and well bound, perfect for the use in the kitchen! The recipe book sells for $20 or $25 posted. All proceeds go towards our landcare group programs. https://www.barraboolhillslandcare.org.au//feral-feast-ra/

12.01.2022 How’s the talent amongst our members, Greg Deutscher from our Minyip branch has been capturing some awesome sunsets in his region. Harvest is always a good time... for landscape pics also and Greg has taken some brilliant bird life photos over the years. We’d love to see your photos of our beautiful wetlands and habitats we all enjoy. Who knows, you might even get a run in our magazine if it’s something we can fit into our stories. Drop a landscape pic in the comments and show us what you’ve got...

11.01.2022 Ross Matthews says numbers were a little down this year in the local region and isn’t quite sure why. I’m guessing his constant hard work in conservation is h...aving some sort of impact. Hunting is conservation when it comes to vermin control and these boys have been at it a lifetime. There’s plenty more great pics to come, we will share them over a period of time. Thanks for your hard work and dedication gentlemen & for sharing the experience with us.

07.01.2022 One of Australia’s most successful pastoralists died last week. Tom Brinkworth was 83 years old. Starting with nothing, he built up an empire of farming propert...ies across Australia, but lived at his sheep and cattle station in South Australia’s south east. Notoriously media shy, he was a fan of Landline and allowed our reporters to cover some of his pursuits, including a massive cattle drive in 2014, his sponsorship and employment of displaced Zimbabwean farmers in 2005 and in 1999, the controversial flooding of his paddocks, turning them into wetlands. This is part of that report by Prue Adams.

04.01.2022 NEW RELEASE - SEASON 4 - EPISODE 7 He goes by many names, but you may know him by what he tends to say: "It's duck season somewhere" or "Get Ducks". Some... have even called him the Jim Shockey of the waterfowl world. You may also know him by his physical appearance - hands and face scarred from an unfortunate incident as a teenager where they gave him little chance to make it. You see, when you look at Ramsey Russell, you may be immediately taken aback by the burns, the scars, and the skin grafts, but duck hunting is buried deep in his blood. Duck hunting saved him after his incident. Duck hunting gave him purpose. Duck hunting to him is not about that duck. Chasing that duck allowed him to truly hunt for experiences. 03.01.2022 One of our members is a most passionate hunter conservationist and bird photographer at the same time. Yes these interests can and do coexist and actually compl...iment each other. Here’s a White Bellied Sea Eagle with Parrot Fish at the Percy Islands offshore from Stanage Bay - QLD The next capture could be a wild pig, goat, fox, rabbit or duck. It may be running swimming or flying. Perhaps it could be on a plate or prepared for cooking and eating. A small portion of what hunters do is to harvest and consume wild food. A much larger part of what hunters do is to admire wildlife, enhance habitat and gather experiences. The sooner people accept that the two coexist and are largely aligned, the better both sides of the fence will look. #hunters #fishers #photographers #birdlovers #australiasmostsurprisingconservationists #samesamebutdifferent
