25.01.2022 Veteran Community we can help! Did you know that we can support members of the veteran community to engage with community support services? We can also help ...in understanding entitlements from the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) and how to access them. Our advocates can also help members of the veteran community and their families link in with a range of veteran specific groups or support services relevant to their needs and age groups. One of our advocates, Shaun - a Veteran himself (pictured), recently helped a veteran to access additional Domestic Assistance services in their home. This client felt as though the services they were receiving at home were not adequate for their needs, but they were unsure of their entitlement to additional services. Shaun contacted the Veterans’ Home Care Assessment Agency and they were able to offer additional services. This was just what was needed and meant that his client was able to feel safe and comfortable in their own home, but also supported to request additional care when they needed it most. Call us on 1800 005 131 or email us at [email protected] we would love to hear from members of the Veteran Community

22.01.2022 30 October 2020 OFFICIAL OPENING Rosebery Office Family Based Care Tasmania, in partnership with the West Coast Council, has officially opened an office in Rosebery today at 3 Reece Avenue, the former child health clinic. The occasion was celebrated with several members of the community invited to join with staff in a BBQ lunch, as Mayor Phil Vickers, General Manager David Midson, and CEO Doug Doherty cut the ribbon. We are very proud to be able to partner with the West... Coast Council and open this office in order to be able to provide better access to community care services for the people of the West Coast Mr Doherty said. In 2019 the West Coast council commissioned KPMG to prepare a Livable-Communities-Strategy As part of this work it was identified that only around 17 West Coast Residents had accessed a Home Care Package despite having an aging population. The report also found that one of the biggest barriers to people accessing Aged Care at home was the lack of service navigation. The Aged Care system is complicated, and many older people find it difficult to navigate the online environment in order to get an assessment. This is where Family Based Care can assist, while we are not funded directly to provide service navigation we feel it is our responsibility as the largest Not for Profit provider operating in the area to provide this service free of charge. Mr Doherty said. Mayors Vickers noted There may be many more individuals who are eligible for subsidised aged care services who just need support in registering for it. Should the number of eligible individuals increase, this may attract more service providers to enter the West Coast and expand options for older individuals. That is why this partnership with Family Based Care is so important. Family Based Care will offer Service Navigation services for the Aged Care system, the NDIS and the Home and Community Care systems from its Rosebery office with a coordinator available every week. I understand that in addition to service navigation Family Based Care intend to offer allied health services from this facility including, Speech Pathology, Psychology, Exercise Physiology and Vocational Rehabilitation services. They are also hoping to set up the adjoining apartment as a training centre for West Coast students undertaking a Certificate III in Individual Support. This will be a great boost for the people of the West Coast. General Manager David Midson said. Details: Family Based Care Tasmania, 3 Reece Avenue, Rosebery, Tasmania See more
