22.01.2022 Read Dr Jodie Park's article on how the workplace culture of child protection agencies can affect student social workers' mandatory placement experience and future practice, and why we need to help them manage this http://bit.ly/2hXVEYy

21.01.2022 Thank you Myimbarr for inviting me to deliver training to your staff about birth family contact and documentation. I enjoyed meeting your OOHC team and I am so glad that the training was useful. Next time i will have to remember to take some photos:)

18.01.2022 Congratulations to Richard Rose for publishing another fantastic book about Therapeutic Life Story Work. I feel so lucky to be implementing Richard's model. I am also proud to announce that Chapter 12 in this book is all about the Therapeutic Life Story intervention that is being implemented in the Illawarra region. Thank you Care South and Barnardos for taking on the intervention. And of course- a bigger thank you to the families I have worked with.

16.01.2022 Great resource that looks at the issue of consent.

14.01.2022 Great words by Professor Karen Healy; They can do this by committing to better early intervention which will reduce the removal of children and, where children must be removed, governments must invest in services to make sure every child has the opportunity to live to their full potential in a loving and supportive environment. Have a read of the full media statement by the AASW in response to this program. It gives a balanced view about the issues raised in the program but also about the broader systemic issues within the OOHC sector

13.01.2022 This is a really quick read that focuses on the prevalence and impact of emotional harm for children.

13.01.2022 Since my practice was flooded and destroyed in June, I have been undecided about where to set up a new practice location. I am very thankful to a local child and family psychiatrist who allowed me to share a room in his practice while i was working out what to do. In the last week i have decided to set up a permanent room at FUSION Training Solutions. The new address is 4/33 Montague Street, North Wollongong. My practice room is finished and ready to go.

08.01.2022 The AASW has developed the "Scope of Social Work Practice" series, promoting the significant role and contribution of the social work profession in a range of f...ields. Each document in the series has been developed in consultation with practitioners, highlighting in a concise, accessible and informative manner the crucial role and services that social workers provide and that clients and employers can expect. You can access the entire series here: https://www.aasw.asn.au/p/the-scope-of-social-work-practice Including the recently published "Scope of Social Work Practice: Social work with refugees and asylum seekers" https://www.aasw.asn.au/document/item/8529

07.01.2022 "All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights" Article 1 - The Universal Declaration of Human Rights In a world dominated by dehumanising and ...cruel policies we must never forget these powerful words, written to prevent the repetition of the very actions we are witnessing today. http://www.un.org/en/universal-declaration-human-rights/

07.01.2022 I'm excited about being at the Childaware Approaches Conference. Its great to share Therapeutic Life Story work with services who are new to the intervention.

07.01.2022 Just a reminder....

05.01.2022 This paper contains some great practical resources for working with children about safety.

05.01.2022 I am excited to be presenting at this conference. This is a great opportunity to spread the word about Therapeutic Life Story Work and to showcase the work that is happening in the Illawarra region. Thank you to Care South and Barnardos South Coast for supporting the Therapeutic Life Story Work pilot program. A bigger thank you to the wonderful children and their carers who i have worked with. You are AMAZING! I am hopeful that the intervention can become an accepted practice for children and young people in OOHC. For those interested in Therapeutic Life Story Work, look out for Richard Rose's new book in July. I am happy to announce that the book includes a chapter from me about the implementation of the Life Story Work pilot program in the Illawarra.

03.01.2022 Thank you to the South Coast Child Wellbeing Network for asking me to be a presenter at your annual conference last week. I always enjoy talking about therapeutic life story work! I enjoyed listening and learning from the speakers on the day.

02.01.2022 It has been a very busy year for Family Pathway Solutions and I thank you all for your ongoing support. 2018 is looking at being another busy year with many opportunities that I will keep you updated about . If you’re interested in training and learning opportunities for therapeutic life story work or a new attachment and family mediation practice model for family violence- watch this space!! I am also excited about expanding the business in 2018 and I am seeking practitio...ners who may like to join my practice as a causal contractor. I am keen to talk with experienced assessors and also practitioners with experience providing counseling intervention. The counseling role will require you to have a medicare provider number. If you are interested can you let me know- [email protected]. Take care everyone and enjoy the last days of 2017.

01.01.2022 This is a great resource for those of us who work with children who have experienced trauma. I especially like the quote; "PTSD symptoms can be minimised by providing the opportunity for children to talk about unpleasant events, thoughts and feelings. In trauma therapy, children are encouraged to learn to recognise and tolerate the strong emotions associated with trauma, and this helps minimise avoidance and other symptoms over time. Children can find it reassuring to know that an adult can tolerate their strong emotions without becoming overwhelmed." This is the fundamental basis of therapeutic life story work and reminds me why it is so important to implement TLSW so it becomes an expected intervention model.

01.01.2022 It has been a very busy time at Family Pathway Solutions since my last post over a month ago. After a very long wait, I finally received my Medicare Provider Number which means that I can offer trauma informed counseling as part of a Mental Health Plan. Please contact me if you would like to know more about this- 4228 3407, 0447 319 637. I have also started a Diploma of Therapeutic Life Story Work with the ever impressive Richard Rose. Richard developed the model and it is an honor to study with him. Our local implementation of Therapeutic Life Story Work is going well and I am very thankful to the two forward thinking OOHC service providers in the Illawarra who have embraced the intervention. A specialized qualification in this field will help to validate Family Pathways Solutions capacity to provide this intervention.

01.01.2022 This is a great paper for anyone who works in OOHC or adolescents with a care history.
