16.01.2022 . In today’s quest to maximise the nutrients in my calories, I gave Garlic Chicken Liver a whirl. . I’ve only ever made chicken liver pate (nomnomnom) so this was a new way for me to prepare them. .... And the verdict ... it was offally good. . . Chicken liver is one of the most nutritious foods you will find. It’s an excellent source of protein, vitamins B12, A, B2, B3, B5, B6, C and folate. It is also a good source of selenium, iron, phosphorous, zinc and copper. On this day last year we were saying our goodbyes after a wonderful week spent together, both on the farm and off, galavanting all over the place enjoying each other’s company. I was so so happy to finally be spending time with you here, making more precious memories together. Little did I know it would be the very last time I’d get to hug you tight, feel the warmth of your cheek on mine, kiss those soft collapsible lips of yours, lips just like Nan’s. I even said that to you afterwards and we giggled. It was the last time I’d look into your always adoring hazel eyes, the last time I’d see your beautiful face. It was always tough saying our goodbyes, always. I will cherish this day, along with every other day we spent together, all the days of my life. 10.01.2022 . When we talk of ‘satiety’, we’re describing our level of fullness and satisfaction after we’ve eaten particular foods. . Protein-rich foods are incredibly satiating and therefore keep us fuller for longer. .... If you start your day with adequate protein, it’ll keep you going for hours and hours without the need to re-fuel yourself every hour or 2, which is how you might feel after starting the day with something like a bowl of cereal. Cue morning tea .. followed by lunch .. then afternoon tea .. then dinner .. then dessert .. then maybe even something else before bed. Before you know it, you’ve overeaten on empty calories because your body has spent the entire day searching for nutrients and satiation. . So if you want to get the most out of food, prioritise protein in your day. It’s virtually impossible to overeat because of its satiety. . .
