22.01.2022 If our previous posts on the Farm Owners Academy Platinum Mastermind Program grabbed your attention, read on! Hearing from real people already involved in the program is so important, as we can learn more about our suitability and readiness for it. Check out what they are saying below (spoiler: it’s frickin’ amazing! )... "We have just completed the 3-year Mastermind program with Farm Owners Academy. This is the most holistic business course we have ever been involved with and it’s had a huge impact both on our business, and also on our personal lives. Greg, Andrew and Deb have a genuine desire to see farmers lead happier, healthier, balanced lives while growing highly profitable businesses. Between them they have a massive amount of experience and knowledge, plus the course allowed us to mix with and benefit from the experience of all the other farmers in the group. We are completely changing the way we run our business as a result of our learnings over the last 3 years. We are now in our 2nd year of the FOA Alumni Program and are looking forward to continuing to be challenged and inspired in so many ways. Our only disappointment is that we didn’t have access to this course much earlier in our farming career."- Tim & Cheryl Freak "The knowledge Greg and Andrew have between them is just phenomenal. Our involvement in the Platinum Mastermind Program has had a dramatic impact on our business and mindset. We have gained so much clarity around what we want to achieve, it has allowed us to step outside of the business and look in, and has provided us with the tools to support our farm going forward. Our sights are set way past what we thought was ever possible." - Hayley Grosser - Platinum Mastermind Member since March 2018 Apply to receive more information from Farm Owners here > https://www.farmownersacademy.com/platinum-mastermind/ There is lots more information with you in our chat with Jeremy here -> https://farmtable.com.au/foa-platinum-mastermind/

21.01.2022 Happy Monday all! A Farm Table member recently posted a question in the Farmer Exchange regarding setting up a paddock to plate business and is seeking your help! "After trying saleyards, delivering to processors and selling live goats, we have been seeking to process our livestock (Boer goats) and then market/sell direct, or at farmers markets. The first hurdle of finding a butcher prepared to process either live animals on our property or cut up a carcass is more difficult ...than you would think. Any suggestions for how to go about this? We have emailed butchers advertising on facebook and tried locally as well...." 20.01.2022 Our AgTech spotlight this week is on the the Sprague couple and how they have used their fit-for-purpose SkyMesh Pty Ltd set-up in order to run an efficient cattle business 100km from Blackall in Queensland. The Sprague's know that you cannot run a livestock business quickly and efficiently today without a good Internet connection. Cattle locations and weights are tracked using Internet-based databases. And, when the time comes, they’re marketed and sold in online auctions. ...We love to support a local business. Whenever I need to know something from SkyMesh, or I need support, I jump straight on to the SkyMesh Facebook page and message Ben (the SkyMesh social media guru). Ben always gets someone on to it quick smart and I’ll get a call from a techo. It’s only ever happened a couple of times. I’ve had no real issues at all. Today, everybody expects you to be online and with SkyMesh, I am. - Anne Sprague. You can read more about this case study on the Skymesh website -> Via Farm Table > https://farmtable.com.au//how-to-get-your-farming-profits/

05.01.2022 This week, Rabobank released its annual Australian Agricultural Land Price Outlook report. The main message from the report was that 2020 will signal the beginning of a new phase in land markets across the country, with "the aggressive rise in land prices behind us". Although prices are at record highs, Rabobank forecast a new phase of low growth ahead. They report the factors 'putting on the brake' are: Trailing (delayed) effect of drought Return to better seasonal co...nditions Shift of focus to consolidation/resilience rather than expansion Softening of grain prices Confidence/revenue drop due to ongoing economic crisis triggered by COVID-19 There are, of course, nuances as different markets moving at different speeds. 03.01.2022 This Sunday's quote comes from an Australian Farm Institute/AgriFutures Australia (2020) report titled "The Changing Landscape of Protein Production: Opportunities and challenges for Australian agriculture." The authors found the the growing alternative proteins market offers opportunity for both animal and plant producers in Australia. "While alternative protein substitution of animal protein will continue to increase in the next 10 years, the levels and rate of substituti...on will not present a material threat to the viability of animal agriculture by 2030. Producers of plant-sourced protein (e.g. pulses) also stand to gain from increased market share; however, new demand for animal-sourced protein from a rising population will outweigh any additional market share that alternative proteins may gain in the near future. To ensure producers and industry actors can capitalise on these opportunities, it will be important for Australian agriculture to present a united front in the aim of producing sufficient protein for the growing population. Segregation and competition between traditional and alternative proteins providers could do more harm than good for all markets. Enabling traditional and alternative protein producers to work in collaboration (such as using the by-product of insect farmers as feed for chicken, pork and fish) could also provide a mutual sustainability benefit for the industry. This report finds that a business-as-usual (BAU) estimation of the additional opportunity for the protein market in 2030 is estimated at A$19.9 billion, of which A$3.1 billion is for alternative protein categories. Overall, the emerging market for alternative proteins should be seen not as a threat to existing production systems but as a means of diversifying choices for producers, processors and consumers to fill the gap."
