20.01.2022 Media release - 19 January 2020 Event: Farr 40 One Design Trophy, 18 & 19 January 2020 hosted by Middle Harbour Yacht Club. Edake wins third in a row... The final day of the Farr 40 One Design Trophy was sailed on Sydney Harbour and PRO Phil Yeomans got four races away resulting in Jeff Carter’s Edake winning their third Farr 40 regatta in a row. Competition between the top three; Edake, Outlaw and Double Black was tighter than ever and it was right down to the last race where Edake secured the regatta win. The team are on a roll and peaking right on schedule as the hot favourite for the upcoming NSW State Title and National Championships. Carter was happy to take away another win. The starts today were awesome for the entire fleet. There was one start where it looked like everyone was on the line with speed at the same time as the gun went off. Then it was a matter of moving to the first shift and being able to take advantage of that over our fellow competitors. The fleet racing was very close all day with any number of different boats leading at any time. This actually was confirmed by the results, where the top two boats were mid fleet in two of the four races today. The father and son team of Tom and Alan Quick divided and very nearly conquered today with Alan taking over the helm and Tom spectating. When Quick (Snr) quickly punched out the first win of the day, there was cheering from Tom on the support boat, which was quickly backed up with banter from his fellow rivals retorting, He’s better than you are. PRO Phil Yeomans and the race management team did a great job today getting the fourth race away, just before the final warning signal of 1500hrs. Excellent sailing conditions compared to yesterday and it was great to watch. We had two races at a course of 200 with a little shift and two with the breeze shifting left, which allowed for four races. Third place went to Rob Pitts and Double Black, who had a really consistent regatta, except for just one race. They were unlucky being caught on the wrong side of one ferry, forcing them to tack away, only to be caught by another ferry passing in the other direction. The strong Australian fleet of ten boats are prepped and more competitive than ever for the pièce de résistance, the NSW State Title held at Middle Harbour on 22 & 23 February followed by the National Championships, John Calvert-Jones Cup held at RSYS in March. 14.01.2022 Media release - 22 February 2020 Event: Farr 40 NSW State Title, 22 & 23 February 2020 hosted by Middle Harbour Yacht Club. Zero breeze for first day of Farr 40 NSW State Title ... It was a slow start to the first day of the NSW State Title. PRO Phil Yeomans gave the option to Skippers and Tacticians at the morning briefing to either bob around waiting for breeze offshore or bob around waiting for breeze inside the harbour, to which the Owners group voted unanimously for the latter. AP was hoisted ashore while the race management team set off in search of breeze and the goal of getting four races away diminished by the minute. Eventually, after clocking 1 knot offshore, AP over A was hoisted, signalling no racing today. With an all-star line-up of Tacticians including Tom Burton (gold medallist at Rio Olympics) Carolijn Bouwer (four time world champion, three time Olympian and 2018 Rolex World Sailor of the Year) and Harry Price (recent winner of the prestigious Hardy Cup), teams will need to consolidate over just four final races tomorrow to be crowned State Champions. The Farr 40 fleet enjoyed an early afternoon regatta party on the beach at Middle Harbour. Racing will commence tomorrow, Sunday, 22 February 2020 at 11am where conditions should allow for four races and one team will be crowned State Champions. 14.01.2022 Media release - 13 October 2020 Event: Farr 40 One Design Trophy, 17 & 18 October 2020 hosted by Middle Harbour Yacht Club. Green light for Farr 40 Class ... After a long and frustrating off season navigating Covid rules and restrictions, the Farr 40 Class has been given the green light to hold their first point score regatta of the season on 17 & 18 October 2020, hosted by Middle Harbour Yacht Club. Australian Sailing and NSW Health zoning restrictions have now been lifted, and the Class is keen to get all future regattas away with no further postponements. Both Victorian teams, Double Black and Nutcracker have committed to this weekend’s regatta. Owners Rob Pitts and Rob Davis have appointed substitute helmsmen for what promises to be a great first regatta of the season with seven boats on the start line. Lang Walker has recently sold the iconic Kokomo to a local owner and she will now join the ever-increasing fleet at MHYC. A number of yachts have changed hands recently, which is positive news for the Australian Class with Sydney fleet numbers on the rise. Due to Covid, the 2020 National Championships which were scheduled to be held back in March were postponed until next month. If the Victorian borders are re-opened, allowing Double Black and Nutcracker owners to travel, the Nationals will go ahead as planned with this regatta the only lead up event. Jeff Carter’s Edake and Tom and Alan Quick’s Outlaw are the two teams vying for the National Champion crown and the infamous red championship blazer. It’s been a strange year for everyone and Dad (Alan) and I will be sharing the helm this weekend. We are really looking forward to being back on the water and competing with all our Farr 40 mates. It’s a shame our fellow skippers from Melbourne won’t be joining us, however, we appreciate their commitment to the Class by entering their boats and we look forward to welcoming them back hopefully next month. Quick said. After what has been a difficult year for our sport, owners and crew have never been more keen to hit the water and PRO Phil Yeomans has scheduled up to eight races being sailed offshore on Saturday and back inside the harbour on Sunday. List of entries: 1. Double Black (MHYC) - Rob Pitts 2. Edake (MHYC) - Jeff Carter 3. Exile (MHYC) - Rob Reynolds 4. Good Form (NCYC) - Joe de Kock 5. Nutcracker (SYC) Rob Davis and Andy Baker 6. 10.01.2022 Media release - 17 October 2020 Event: Farr 40 One Design Trophy, 17 & 18 October 2020 hosted by Middle Harbour Yacht Club. A touch of Hollywood... Day one of the Farr 40 One Design Trophy was sailed off Harbord Diggers in a nor’easter of 15-17 knots and Nutcracker’s substitute helmsman Ray Roberts took three from four bullets earning Boat of the Day with a significant lead of six points. Roberts, owner of the infamous Farr 55 named Hollywood Boulevard, was pleased with today’s result. I want to thank Rob Davis and Andy Baker for having me along this weekend. I really enjoyed the close racing and hope we can continue our winning streak tomorrow. With a star-studded crew including Nathan Wilmot calling tactics, Bob Wilmot on main, John Flannery on mast and Tom Grimes in strategy, team Nutcracker barely put a foot wrong all day with three wins and a fourth place in race two. With borders still closed, Nutcracker Owners Rob Davis and Andy Baker were thrilled with today’s result. Obviously we are bitterly disappointed not to be there but we are pleased the Class got a regatta away given the year we’ve had. I’d like to thank Flanno (John Flannery) and Bobby (Robert Wilmot) for putting the crew and boat together and of course we are grateful to Ray for stepping in. Go Nutcracker! Victoria’s hopes are riding on you. Davis said. Farr 40 Owners left nothing to chance for the first regatta of the season calling in the big shots with Olympic medallists Tom Burton on Double Black and Will Ryan calling tactics for Newcastle entry Good Form. The other win of the day went to father and son team Tom and Alan Quick with Tom at the helm. Outlaw were racing short of their regular crew, however, still managed to perform and pull off a win. Tomorrow, Alan will take over the helm and Tom will be spectating. The Class would like to thank PRO Phil Yeomans and the legendary race management team for efficiently punching out four quick races today without a hitch. Due to tomorrow’s forecast, racing has been brought forward to a 10am start for the final races which will be sailed inside the harbour on The Sound. 08.01.2022 Farr 40 NSW State Title - Regatta Party Unfortunately, no racing took place today due to lack of breeze. All sailors enjoyed an early regatta party on the beach at MHYC. Racing will commence tomorrow, Sunday, 23 February 2020 at 11am.

07.01.2022 Media release - 23 February 2020 Event: Farr 40 NSW State Title, 22 & 23 February 2020 hosted by Middle Harbour Yacht Club. Outlaw 2020 State Champions... After four races on Sydney Harbour today, Tom Quick and the Outlaw team were crowned 2020 Farr 40 State Champions. Principal Race Officer Phil Yeomans set a short course from Middle Head to Little Manly in 8-10 knots. After a frustrating day yesterday waiting for breeze which never arrived, the experienced race management team punched out four quick races to ensure the Class series was achieved. We waited and we waited and finally it came, the nor easter. We churned out three quick one lap races and ended the day with a two-lapper which was the best breeze of the day. Thankfully we got a result after yesterday’s hanging around with no racing. Yeomans said. Regatta winner Tom Quick was elated with today’s result. Firstly, I’d like to thank my team. They were fantastic today with the best hiking and they were all over their roles and teamwork. Mark Langford joined us on main this weekend and as always was on the pace straight away. Phil Armstrong and Jess Angus were excellent in the middle changing gears with the variable wind. As always David Chapman brought his A-game today and was calling the shifts beautifully. Quick continued, Heading towards the Nationals and the Sydney Worlds the racing is incredibly close. Today we raced three one lap races and at the finish of race two, there were six boats finishing overlapped. Jeff Carter and team Edake have won the last three regattas in a row but their winning streak came to an end today. Scoring two bullets, they still couldn’t catch rival Outlaw and finished in second place overall. Class President Rob Pitts and Double Black were in third place and finished the regatta scoring two seconds in the final two races. The Farr 40 Class would like to thank Middle Harbour Yacht Club for a great season as our host club and special thanks to Phil Yeomans and the Race Management team who always do such a wonderful job. The Class will reconvene for the premier regatta of the season, the Farr 40 National Championships: John Calvert-Jones Trophy being held at the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron over three days on 20-23 March 2020 where the entire fleet of nine boats will battle it out for the National title. 06.01.2022 Media release - 17 November 2019 Event: Farr 40 One Design Trophy, 16 & 17 November 2019 hosted by Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club Edake wins Newcastle One Design Trophy... It was such a stunning day racing off Newcastle Beach, even the dolphins came out to play, surfing on the bow wake of Edake leading them all the way to victory. Farr 40 racing doesn’t get any closer than today with just three points separating first, second and third before Jeff Carter’s Edake sealed the deal winning the final race of the series. The Edake crew are fresh back from winning the Corinthian World Title at the Farr 40 Worlds at Long Beach, California. Skipper Jeff Carter showed experience and consistency over all eight races and a win in the last race won them the regatta. Tom Quick’s Outlaw was just two points behind Edake and once again found themselves on the podium in second place. Local boat Good Form was looking like the hot favourite after winning the first two races on day two, however, Edake and Outlaw weren’t going to give up that easily and it wouldn’t be Farr 40 racing without an upset. PRO, the legendary Ted Anderson and his race management team had a challenging day on the water with persistent wind shifts as the southerly moved in. They absolutely nailed it getting the final race away with just two minutes to spare before the 1500hr final warning signal. Kudos to Class newcomers Jason and Mary King’s Solymar and Janey Treleaven’s Finn. There was absolutely nothing in it between first and last and well done Janey for sailing all weekend with a severely injured elbow. The Class would like to thank the Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club for their superb hospitality and special thanks to PRO Ted Anderson and the race management team for getting eight races in over two days. 01.01.2022 Media release - 7 December 2019 Event: Farr 40 One Design Trophy, 7 & 8 December 2019 hosted by Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club Edake unstoppable... The first day of the Farr 40 Pittwater One Design trophy was held on the Palm Beach circle with a nice nor’ easter of 5-8 knots providing perfect conditions for the Class’ final regatta of the season. PRO Steve Merrington did a great job running two classes on the one racecourse and after four races, Jeff Carter’s Edake is in first place by just one point, with Double Black in second and Exile in third on joint points. Pittwater local and Farr 40 Owner of Enigma, Robert (Bob) Bennett worked with Tom Spithill to put together a RPAYC youth development team helmed by Jim Gordon today and Bennett tomorrow. The young team thoroughly enjoyed their maiden Farr 40 regatta and Bennett was proud of their performance. Tommy and I work closely together on a lot of things at RPAYC and he suggested a few weeks ago that we get the kids on Enigma for this regatta. My regular crew were only too happy to give up their racing today and I’m an old softie. I just really enjoy seeing happy faces on kids. The team are locals and they all race on different boats. We want to develop their skills and hopefully retain them in the club and today was the first time they have ever been on a big yacht. The average age is 20 years old and then there’s Jim Gordon and I who are taking turns at the helm. I’m really proud of how well they sailed today and tomorrow, we are aiming to move up a spot. The Enigma motto as printed on their crew shirts is: Over 20 degrees, under 20 knots, less than 20% chance of rain. Triple checked and good to go! There is no stopping current World Corinthian champions Edake and with consistent scores of 1.3.3.2, the crew are on a roll having won the last two regattas. Rob Reynolds was unable to sail this weekend and handed over the reins to Sam Hill. Hill, no stranger to Farr 40 racing had an absolute blinder with the experienced crew and it’s up for grabs going into the final races tomorrow, with just one point separating the top three. Racing will commence tomorrow, Sunday, 8 December 2019 at 12noon. 01.01.2022 Media release - 18 January 2020 Event: Farr 40 One Design Trophy, 18 & 19 January 2020 hosted by Middle Harbour Yacht Club. Wet, windy and wild racing for the Forty’s... It was gruelling conditions on Sydney Harbour for the first day of the Farr 40 One Design Trophy and Jeff Carter’s Edake scored three bullets putting them right back where they have been comfortably sitting for the majority of the season in first place. With conditions forecast to be gusting well over 25 knots, the decision was made at the Class briefing to move the race course from offshore to back inside Sydney Harbour. A south, south westerly averaging 23 knots, gusting to 28, provided the teams with the most testing conditions of the season thus far. Number four jibs were the call of the day to get through the gusty upwind beats, however, once the fleet were around the top mark, the downhill run provided plenty of drama with even the best and most experienced teams, not escaping without incident. Wipeouts were aplenty, spinnaker’s were shredded and all crews were thoroughly exhausted after three races and just half of the fleet managed to see the day out. Australian Class President, Rob Pitts and Double Black scored 3.2.2 placing them in second place, two points ahead of fellow Mexicans Rob Davis and Andy Baker’s Nutcracker. Today was a day of survival and attrition and only half the fleet were left standing for the last race. Massive wind gusts and torrential rain made downwind sailing a white knuckle ride and the day was adrenalin packed to the max. Pitts said. In direct contrast to today’s conditions, with up to four races planned for tomorrow, rest assured, the overall trophy is well and truly still up for grabs. Racing will commence tomorrow, Sunday, 19 January 2020 at 11am inside Sydney Harbour. RESULTS The Farr 40 Australian Class is proudly sponsored by Hacer Group.
