11.01.2022 TONIGHT | As part of their 30th anniversary celebrations, Bell Shakespeare are hosting a series of debates that address and tackle ideas from Shakespeare’s plays, in the context of our modern world. The premiere event, streamed live from Sydney’s Carriageworks, will kick the series off with a debate on the timely and all-too-resonant declaration from As You Like It: ‘We have seen better days.’ A stellar line up of debaters, Benjamin Law, Jan Fran, Jane Caro AM, Miriam Corow...a, Jonathan Biggins and Jess Scully will form two teams and go head-to-head in a debate that will address, challenge and (hopefully) inspire the way we see our world today. Named after Audre Lorde’s 1982 autobiography, ZAMI is a new Black, Indigenous and People of Colour literary journal published by the Sydney Arts Students Society - SASS. 03.01.2022 Ever wanted to try your hand at drawing a simple comic? This free 45-min workshop for students will cover the basics of how to draw comics, from how to draw a simple face, how to construct a story, and how to do a short 1-page comic, with graphic novelist Queenie Chan and the USU. No prior experience is required and all you need to bring is a pencil, paper, rule and rubber. ... Queenie Chan was born in Hong Kong, and migrated to Australia when she was six years old. Her first published work was 'The Dreaming', a mystery-horror series for LA-based manga publisher TOKYOPOP, which has since been translated into multiple languages. She then collaborated on several graphic novels with best-selling author Dean Koontz for his ‘Odd Thomas’ series, as well as with author Kylie Chan for ‘Small Shen’. After that, she worked on several anthologies, and completed a fairytale inspired fantasy series called 'Fabled Kingdom'.
