It kicks off with this preposterous prose on my first internet dating profile: In my imaginary life, I ride an old Honda motorcycle. 06.01.2022 Aussie Aussie Aussie. Oi Oi Oi. I struggle with this date being the date we celebrate being Australian (Im all for May 8), but I am still incredibly grateful that I live here. I have lived a charmed life because I am Australian. I do not take this for granted, nor do I underestimate the struggle of our indigenous people. I am the first generation born here after my grandparents and parents immigrated from Holland following WW2, and as a family we have lived in a paradise filled with safety, health, good food, clean water, and beautiful people galore. 02.01.2022 The wonderful 70s wedding dinner Angi and James served up a serious stash of that decades delights. I researched loads of fantastical and oft gross conglomeration of foods. In the end, my list of amazements resulted in combinations of recipes that made me feel like the willy wonka of weddings. First off, a pineapple with toothpicks loaded with tasty cheese, kabana and cocktail onions. It was ART, baby! Then a fondue pot to share. Three cheeses and whit...e woine to dip in giant croutons, asparagus spears, pickled cukes and baby rainbow carrots. For the roaming entree we cooked up spam burgers with pineapple chutney, devilled eggs with bloody mary pearls, and vou la vents filled with Steak Diane. Mains included maple meatloaf, smoked cauliflower cheese, creamy mash fashioned into wee wedding cakes and peas, corn & carrots set in roast chicken flavored jellies. 01.01.2022 I found a new word! BALTER To balter is to dance gracelessly but with enjoyment.... Thats me. I love a boogie, I really do. But I can get super embarrassed about people watching me. I reckon we all do sometimes. Nobody likes feeling like a fool. In high school, my most darling buddy was a terrifically bad dancer. Like T-Rex trying to fuck a door knob. Hideous. But he didnt give two shits. He continued to shimmy away delighted by the music and moving his body and you know what - HE NEVER LOOKED LIKE A FOOL. Not once. His joy was contagious, he looked like he was having fun, no one mocked him (except for me of course #arsehole). And he still dances. We still dance together. In fact hes now a legit DJ getting paid to create music magic. So, whenever I feel self conscious about dancing, I remind myself that Im not so important that people are watching and Im not so shit that people will laugh. Because no one looks stupid when theyre having fun. See more
