25.01.2022 Recent rain has resulted in good growth across much of NSW. While this is welcome, it does bring with it the risk of grass fires. This weekend we want everybody to consider what they can do to reduce their fire risk. Now is the time to ‘Get Ready’ for the fire season.

15.01.2022 A warm welcome to our new District Manager! Thank you for your support and words of encouragement, Nick Medianik.

12.01.2022 There have been many great reminders on TV lately about the importance of maintaining properties and preparing bushfire safety plans in bushfire prone areas. The NRMA Ad campaign and ABC’s current series called Big Weather come to mind. Something that the show Big Weather brings to our attention is the need to work together as a community as well as families to be prepared for bushfire risk. If you are able, maybe this coming weekend you could check in on your neighbours who may need help managing their property or garden ahead of summer. Every little bit helps!

12.01.2022 Today’s update on Erskine Creek.

12.01.2022 A total fire ban will be in force from midnight tonight.

06.01.2022 1st October 2020 is the commencement of the Bush Fire Danger Period within the Blue Mountains Local Government Area. Bush Fire Danger Period and Fire Permits A... Fire Permit is required for burning activities during the Bush Fire Danger Period. Fire Permits help ensure fire is used safely and minimise the danger to you, your property and the community. The key things to remember You need a fire permit if it's the Bush Fire Danger Period. Just because it's the Bush Fire Danger Period doesn't mean you can't use fire - but there are restrictions to ensure fire is used safely. Getting a permit is free and easy. Contact your local Fire Control Centre. There are heavy penalties if you don't follow restrictions or rules. Please note that other restrictions, approvals and/or permits may apply to council areas where the Bush Fire Danger Period has not been declared. For example, backyard burning is not permitted in many suburban areas due to Environmental Regulations and Council or Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) permission is required. Check these guides for more information on permits and reducing hazards on your property: Before You Light That Fire - information on permits and steps you need to take before using fire on your property (https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au//124/BeforeYouLightThatFire.pdf) Can I or Can't I - a simple guide to restrictions such as during Total Fire Bans (https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au//Standards-Lighting-a-Fire-2017)

01.01.2022 Just a quick update to let you all know that we are still here! Due to COVID restrictions, we haven’t been able to do our usual winter activities like recruitment, training and hazard reductions but we have remained on call for any incidents that may arise. Thankfully, there haven’t been any in recent weeks for us to attend. This has allowed our members to have a well earned break off the back of a frantic fire season. Our members at Faulconbridge Brigade have filled roles on... the ground and in trucks as firefighters across the state and interstate earlier in the fire season (which started about July/August 2019), in the air as heli attack and in remote firefighter roles, at District Office in Katoomba in operational roles and in a number of other managerial and mitigation roles for the Service. We’d like to thank the community for your ongoing support during the 2019/2020 fire season. Your messages of encouragement have sustained us. Donations of water and supplies, gifts and money kept us at full operational capacity, and drawings from children still adorn our station walls as a lasting reminder of this great community we serve. Thank you again for all your support and we hope you are all keeping well. We are currently in planning for the upcoming bushfire preparation season and how that will work amidst the pandemic. In coming weeks we will be posting advice on how to prepare your properties for the 2021 season, so stay tuned!
