21.01.2022 What is chlorine bleach? Household chlorine bleach products, for example Exit Mould, Domestos and White King, are a mixture of synthetic chemicals with the main ingredient being sodium hypochlorite. What is oxygen bleach? Oxygen bleach, or sodium percarbonate, is made from sodium carbonate (also know as soda ash) and hydrogen peroxide. It works by releasing oxygen once it is exposed to water. This release of oxygen lifts stains and dirt off whatever you’re cleaning. The only... by-product is soda ash. Oxygen bleach is better than chlorine bleach because it's safer for your health and for the environment. Oxygen bleach will not break down fabric fibres as will corrosive chlorine, but note that it is still not safe for delicates such as silk and wool. Oxygen bleach is safe to use on coloured fabrics and will not bleach dyed fabrics as chlorine is likely to do. We do recommend to always patch test first as the fabric dyes may not be stable. At Squeekie Clean Laundry we use Sodium Percarbonate in all our washes (except wool and silks). Next time I'll be posting information on the benefits of using a hot or cold wash. See more

21.01.2022 Having some ISO fun making special facewashers for removing makeup. They're more environmentally friendly than disposable facial wipes and save you from ruining your nice white facewashers. This is a constant issue for our commercial clients with holiday rentals. Problem solved.

20.01.2022 Another question we get asked a lot is what type of bed linen is best for a holiday rental. There are a lot of variables depending on how much you want to spend. 100% cotton with a high thread count looks and feels good and is more breathable but because it's heavier it does take longer to dry and will most likely need to be pressed each time it's washed. If you think can offset this cost into the price you charge then that may work for you. A popular option is a 50/50 blend which will cost less to purchase, is more lightweight and may not need pressing but is more suited a low or moderate priced holiday rental. As you can see it really depends on your clients expectations and what they want to pay. I hope this helps and please feel free to contact me anytime if you have any questions.

17.01.2022 White bed linen and towels can work well in hotels but not necessarily holiday rentals. The main difference between staying in a hotel and an Airbnb is that hotel rooms gets serviced daily. Hotels have the advantage of addressing any nasty stains on the same day they happen where a stain on an airbnb sheet or towel can stay on there for days. It's a lot easier to remove a stain if you can attend to it before it starts to absorb into the fabric. One way around this is to treat... the stain as soon as possible by spraying a stain remover and let it sit long enough for it to dissolve the stain. Another option to treat a stubborn stain is to allow the offending item to soak for at least 12 to 24 hours prior to washing. Here's a guide on how often linen needs to be replaced in your holiday rental. Sheets: If you’ve got a high occupancy rate year-round, aim to replace your sheets every 6-12 months at least. If you’re not booked as frequently, once a year should do it. Obviously, if you find any kind of ripping or tears or if stains pop up on your sheets, toss them out immediately and replace them. Pillows: Pillows can be washed but even the best washing machine can’t rid them entirely of loose dead skin cells and germs that accumulate over time. The best option is to replace the bed pillows at least every 6 months. Bath Towels: It doesn’t take long for bath towels to start looking worn out. Again, depending on how consistently you’re booked throughout the year, aim to change these out every 3-6 months. This is especially important if you provide white or light-colored towels as they’ll show signs of wear faster than darker towels. Hand Towels and Facewashers: Stock up on hand towels. These take a real beating and should be replaced at least when you replace your bath towels. It’s smart to buy extra hand towels when you buy your bath towels so you’ve got a few on hand if you should ever need them. Kitchen Towels: If you choose to provide kitchen or tea towels to your guests in addition to paper towels, plan to replace these every 6-12 months. Unlike your other linens, kitchen towels may not get used as much; it all depends on how regularly your guests cook. Check these often and look out for signs of wear or stains. These are the least expensive and, arguably, the easiest linens to replace.

16.01.2022 The age old question. Is hot water better than cold when washing laundry? Detergents are made differently today with enzymes that kick into action in a way that allows them to be more effective at lower temperatures. If you’re trying to remove a stain, cold water is a better option, according to the experts. Once the water temperature reaches above 75 degrees, detergents become less effective, and the heat can actually help stains set into the clothing. Hotter water can also damage some fabrics and colors.

15.01.2022 Here are some of the most common reasons for linen loss and/or damage in your vacation rental in order. 1. Research reveals that the single biggest way that linens are abused at many vacation rentals are when cleaning staff use the linen to clean the room. These type of stains are the hardest to remove. 2. Guest take a pillow and it’s case when they depart so kids can sleep in the car on the way home, or they take a pillow case to hold dirty clothes. 3.Blood stains and on a... fitted or bottom flat sheet that is left too long and therefore harder to remove. 4. Cleaners stuff dirty linens into pillow cases or wrap it in a sheet and drag it along the ground or throw it in the back of their car causing irremovable stains. 5. Wash cloths are used to remove heavy make up, shine shoes and wash dishes etc. 6. Employee theft and carelessness. 7. Guests take towels home or swap them for their own. Implementing policies to discourage these issues will help to reduce your linen loss.

13.01.2022 I often get asked about the towelling for holiday rentals and there are a lot of things to consider. First is colour - White towels are very tough to keep clean at the best of times. From mascara, fake tan, lipstick, chemical face wash, mud and even grease, it’s near on impossible. A darker colour towel will hide nearly every stain a guest can throw at it. It’s only enemy is peroxide bleach which you can sometimes find in an acne face wash. Also make sure your cleaner remove...s the towels before they start throwing bleach around the bathroom. The second question I get asked is how many towels per guest. One towel per guest for up to a three day stay seems to be the expected although some guests mistake an Airbnb for a hotel and expect a fresh towel every time they shower. Therefore a good idea is to send a check up message a day after they arrive asking if they need anything, including fresh towels. Now the ball is in their court to request a towel if they need one. 08.01.2022 Here are some tips on how to style your bed. Step 1: Start with the mattress. Make sure to invest in a mattress topper and protector. Place the mattress protector securely around the mattress and on top of the protector, place the mattress topper. Step 2: Place your fitted sheet around your mattress topper and mattress, stretching the elastic hem under the mattress. Then place the flat sheet over the fitted sheet. Tuck the flat sheet in at the sides and the bottom. ... Step 3: Fluff your comforter or duvet. Then pull your comforter or duvet over the flat sheet, but do not tuck it in. Step 4: It’s time for the decorative elements! Layer your pillows, placing the sleeping pillow in the back row followed by decorative and accent pillows. Fold and place a decorative blanket or throw long ways across near the foot of the bed. At Squeekie Clean Laundry our aim is to be the Mornington Peninsula's holiday linen specialists and we would love to help keep your linen clean and hygenic.

08.01.2022 Interesting laundry facts: The Industry standards for maximum linen life in hotels is 150 washes for cotton sheets and pillow cases, 220 for poly cotton blend and 110 washes for towels before they get replaced. For restaurants it's recommended they replace their tablecloths and napkins after 130 washes. Of course if the linen is badly treated these average washing counts may be reduced. Any longer than this and it becomes too difficult to maintain the brightness and quality. 01.01.2022 Have you ever noticed the NapiSan commercial where they miraculously remove a nasty stain on a womans dress? What you may not notice is the small print at the bottom of the screen stating that it was soaked for 2 hours prior to washing. If you can attend to the stain as soon as possible and apply any brand of stain remover and allow the product to remain on the fabric for as long as possible there is a much better chance of the stain washing out. Just make sure the stain remover is colour safe. Happy washing.
