20.01.2022 SAT CLUB RIDE 07.11.20 GROUP 6 WITH THE BUGS. Group 6 Leader Lloyd had the group formed up early & rotating on the front at two a breast where safe to do so. A bit windy in places but all up an enjoyable stick together ride at approximately 30 kph for the loop behind The Bay.... The photos below: Lloyd ready to park up at Bean Beat. Group lineup at one the Wind Tunnel roundabouts. Lloyd's circuit according to the Strava software.

16.01.2022 TEAM FOSSIL Who are they? Who gave them this name? Where do they meet? Where do they ride?... The Team Fossil term has popped up from time to time over the last few months at the coffee tables so it was only a matter of time before more of the Bugs wanted to know a bit more about them. A little birdy suggested Bottom Bracket may be able to provide a bit more information on this newly formed group. Bottom Bracket assures us there is no derogatory intent with his naming of the group. He just happened to be looking for a slightly slower ride whilst recovering from an injury when he stumbled across some of his ol' Bugs mates out the back blocks of Hervey about 4 months ago. Since becoming an honorary member of Team Fossil, Bottom Bracket has learnt a lot from these fellas namely preparation for hip replacement surgery, knee replacements & reconstruction, dealing with arthritic pain, heart surgery, recognizing blocked arteries plus how to manage a crook back. He also informs us there is no joining fee & there isn't a 70yo age requirement as one rumour suggested as they now have a couple of younger associate members. To join the team having an ongoing ailment would be viewed favourably, but a final endorsement from Daggy would see you out riding with Team Fossil. Team Fossil meet on a Monday & Thursday at 5:30am & depart from the Blue Shop on Beach Rd. Bottom Bracket said these guys are not to be underestimated as they do have a couple of hard hit outs from time to time. He recommends having a ride with this crew will provide a friendly & humorous experience. So keep an eye out for Team Fossil & if you don't see them together out on the road, they'll be more than happy to have a chat with you at their Brew 'n View & Bean Beat cafes. TEAM FOSSIL Back Row L to R : Daggy (Team Spokesman), Col, Normie & Budgie Front Row L to R : Nev (Junior honorary member), Johnny & Angus. The Strava screenshot below captures one of their recent rides around Hervey. SO WHO IS BOTTOM BRACKET? Brian Fielding, better known as Bottom Bracket was given this name a few years ago because of the constant creaks coming from his bottom bracket before it eventually got serviced. Bottom Bracket is pictured below checking his bike after carrying out a major DIY service.

15.01.2022 BUGS CLUB RIDE SATURDAY 07/11/2020. Caught up with Team Blue at Bean Beat shortly before they were heading off after their ride. Left to Right:... 14.01.2022 WED 4/11/20 THE BUGS TAKE ON THE MARY2BAY RAIL TRAIL. The Bugs have done the Trail on numerous occasions, but there was a little twist to this one today. Budgie was going to show us a secret lake out there that nobody else knew about. 12 Bugs met up beside The Depot, Nikenbah for the 7am start.... We had Brian (our President), Johhny W (our Group Leader), Budgie (our Volunteer Navigator), Jen & Mike, Bottom Bracket (Brian), Kim, Tony, Nev, Rocky (Mel), Stan & Andre. All good up to Pigford Lane for the entry onto the Rail Trail when Budgie all of a sudden become an honorary member of the University SA team & took off like the breakaway out of McLaren Vale. He was quickly chastised & made to return for the team photo. Johnny W, our Group Leader decided it was probably better to control this mob from the back & took up the position of sweep early in the ride. The conditions heading out were perfect & it felt like we were riding in an air conditioned environment. Things got a bit tough at times with a few obstacles like fallen trees, some muddy dips from the rain & a few stretches of bulldust which kept us on our toes. A couple of times some toes did touch the bulldust but we're not naming anybody here. Considering the Club President was with us on this one there was still no shortage of smart Alec's & hecklers. At one stage there was a "Car Up" call from the back of the pack to address one of the many burnt out cars we saw along the way. The photos below show the group leaving Pigford Lane, Johhny W taking up his position plus one of the burnt out cars. Whilst Budgie was our volunteer Navigator he was challenged on several occasions & even heckled on some of his decisions. An outsider may have seen the heckling as offensive, but to Budgie this was water off the duck's back. Andre, a participating heckler was captured assisting Budgie with one of the decisions before eventually grabbing a group photo at the mystery lake. At the lake one can see Budgie is super proud of his mission accomplished. The lake in question ended up being part of the Wide Bay Catchment Area. The track back to The Depot saw Budgie take up the sweep role after spending all the energy getting us there. Another great morning adventure with The Bugs. Around 42 Km for the return to The Depot. We'll keep you posted for the next one.

12.01.2022 Club ride Saturday 31/10/2020. GROUPS 4, 5 & 6 UNITE TO FORM A GROUP OF 16 UNDER THE EYE OF CLUB VETERAN UNCLE COL. With riders being a bit light on today because of the wind we soon decided that riding in groups with only 4 or 5 riders would make things even more strenuous especially with the prevailing wind.... Col took us on what he called "The Friday Ride". This is a popular circuit at Hervey Bay & it gets used by all levels of cyclists from around the area. The Fraser Coast Cycling Club crew take to this circuit early on a Friday morning & speeds of 35 - 37 kph average are not uncommon. Various groups from within The Bugs namely "The Fast & Furious Fluoro Friday crew", "The Ol' Boys Club" & "Team Fossil" head around this circuit on a regular basis at their particular nominated speed. With a short stop at the pool for a photo, & only a couple of regroups along the way plus no punctures made for an enjoyable Saturday morning ride. Col done a great job considering he was catering for the 3 levels within the one group ride. Several riders commented on how good it was to do something different to the norm.
