20.01.2022 Some people love yoga, others would rather be at a BBQ with friends. The important thing is that both activities are great ways to make time for you. Because everyone is different, the way you choose to practise mental wellbeing will be different too.

19.01.2022 It's tough to stay energised these days... and although we try our best, sometimes it's hard to keep the energy levels up as we navigate through our busy lives and the uncertainty of the times we live in. Although we'd all love to keep our energy up, it makes more sense to admit that sometimes it's just hard to do and a day of rest on the couch can be just as helpful for our overall mindset. Consider starting your day off with a workout or a walk and make yourself a healthy brekky as a good way to boost energy levels. Remember that it's ok to not feel ok, and if a doona day is needed then that's perfectly acceptable!

17.01.2022 In this most unusual and difficult year, Perinatal Anxiety and Depression Action Week is more important than ever. With many expecting and new parents struggling due to COVID-19, it’s critical that we work together to support families facing mental health challenges at this time. The theme for PANDA Week 2020 is ‘Tell someone who cares’. Let's talk about perinatal mental illness and support the mental health of expecting and new parents. Share this post and let's get the word... out! @PANDAnational #PANDAWeek2020 #TellSomeoneWhoCares

17.01.2022 Spending time with animals has been shown to have many benefits to your mental wellbeing and physical health. Pets can be relied upon to be loyal and trustworthy, as well as a source of comfort. Pets can make us laugh, looking after them can teach us certain skills, and they can play a big part in boosting our wellbeing. Share your pet photos below - we love seeing your furry friends!

16.01.2022 A recent article suggests that for older adults there’s some big barriers that are stopping them for receiving help. Older adults have one of the lowest rates of mental health treatment in Australia, with only around one in three older people with a mental health problem, such as anxiety or depression, receiving the treatment they need. Ageing Wisely Online is an iCBT program that is based on the face-to-face Ageing Wisely program which has more than 10 years of research supporting its effectiveness for treating anxiety and depression in older people. The program includes videos where clinical psychologists and academic researchers present skills and information. For more info on Ageing Wisely Online, check out their website: https://ageingwisely.org.au/

16.01.2022 It’s common for people with PTSD to withdraw from friends and family. While it’s important to respect your loved one’s boundaries, your comfort and support can help the person with PTSD overcome feelings of helplessness, grief, and despair. In fact, trauma experts believe that face-to-face support from others is the most important factor in PTSD recovery. Knowing how to best demonstrate your love and support for someone with PTSD isn’t always easy. You can’t force your loved ...one to get better, but you can play a major role in the healing process by simply spending time together. Don’t pressure your loved one into talking. Do normal things with your loved one, things that have nothing to do with PTSD or the traumatic experience. Let your loved one take the lead, rather than telling him or her what to do. Manage your own stress. Be patient. Educate yourself about PTSD. Accept (and expect) mixed feelings.

16.01.2022 Macquarie University in New South Wales has launched a new online mental health program as a way to provide mental health services to older Australians who would normally struggle to find and use these services. https://www.agedcareguide.com.au//new-program-targets-ment

14.01.2022 It’s good to have a healthy mindset when we go home to our loved ones at the end of our roster. The healthier you are mentally, the better you are for yourself, your family and your team. https://safetowork.com.au/corporate-support-for-stronger-m/

14.01.2022 ‘Our findings highlight the challenges that children and families faced during the first lockdown when most children were not able to attend school. We are pleased to see that things have generally improved for study families since the pressures of home learning have reduced, but our findings raise concerns about the impact of the ongoing disruption to schooling that many children are dealing with. ‘We don’t yet know the impact of this second lockdown, although children being able to attend school could make all the difference. High rates of mental health difficulties among children in low income families also highlight the huge challenge faced as more and more families tackle the economic impacts of the pandemic.’ https://www.miragenews.com/return-to-school-sees-improveme/

For children to thrive we need to come together as a community and put children’s needs first during National Child Protection Week and every week.
