23.01.2022 Yesterday wasNational Wattle Day! which also marks the first day of Spring! This was a wonderful invitation for children to explore Australias national floral emblem as well as continue to explore indigenous perspectives. Aboriginal people have a strong traditional relationship with a number of wattle species, which have been used by them for food, fuel, medicine and various woodcrafts.

19.01.2022 The Bilby children have been Inspired by the key messages of recycling, so we created our own recycling bins - including a paper bin! As the recycled paper began to grow, we got to work cutting and shredding it, and then created our own paper, by blending the paper up in blender, shaping it on a wire rack, and squeezing the water out! This experience supports the children to make real world connections with sustainability concepts, supported through hands-on learning. "I am ...the Lorax, I speak for the trees, I speak for the trees as the trees have no tongues". The Lorax would be very happy with us!", as we made our own paper without cutting down trees. This was beautiful example of respect and care for the natural environment. "How Paper is Made" (https://www.youtube.com/watch).

17.01.2022 Today marks the beginning of Play Your Part National Child Protection Week. Putting Children First is the theme of National Child Protection Week which kicks off on Fathers Day, 6 September. Our children need all of us to be playing our part in keeping them safe and well. We all need to be part of important conversations about putting children first. The added stress on families due to the Coronavirus pandemic means National Child Protection Week is more important than ever. This week Federation Children will be uploading resources and information to support families to Play Your Part and open the conversation.

12.01.2022 The Bilby children have been engaged in a inquiry project about Birds, this tied in nicely for NAIDOC week, providing children further opportunites to explore and extend on this topic. The children have been active and capable learners taking ownership over their own project. Inquiry-based learning is an approach to learning that emphasizes the Children's role in the learning process. Rather than the educator telling children what they need to know, children are encouraged to explore the material, ask questions, and share ideas.

09.01.2022 We need your VOTES! Koori Curriculum Naidoc Virtual Art Competition The Bilby children at Federation Children are excited to share Bunjil the eagle". Bunjil is important to the Waddwurrung people whose land we learn and play on each day. To help represent Bunjil, the children used fine liners to create the outline, found feathers with their family, painted with water colour, glued feathers to the wings and added red sand to the background, to represent the earth and Waddawur...rung people. The children have continued to incorporate Bunjil into their play, which emerged during National Reconciliation Week, after reading "Welcome to Country" by Aunty Joy Murphy and Lisa Kennedy. Bunjil reminds us of our connection to Country and represents our local people whose land and culture Always was, always will be. Please support our Bilby Children by following the link below and placing your vote, the winner will be announced on the 5th of September. https://kooricurriculum.com//naidoc-virtual-art-competitio
