25.01.2022 Get you some baby 's like @jennamccormick__ and ensure robustness in your sprinting performance. Think of it this way - when you sprint your foot and lower leg is the first port of call for the extremely high forces shooting up through the floor. If this area is not robust and resilient enough to withstand and transfer those forces effectively you will likely experience injury due to overload of weak points. Sprinting itself - but progressively increased in volume and inte...nsity - and plyometrics, combined with a properly designed exercise and load management plan, are sure fire ways to assist in keeping these bad boys ready for the high demands of FAST running, jumping and changing direction. If you're experiencing calf pains now leading into your season it could be that you didn't do enough sprinting in the down time and/or your return to sport plan may not have been managed effectively in regards to progressive overload. More to come over at @mitisephysio though, so if you haven't already checked out and sent the page a follow be sure to do so soon. Protect them baby cows. Moo. #Mitise #StrengthandConditioning

25.01.2022 @jennamccormick__ on the difference between going to the Tokyo @olympics and not. In our upcoming episode of the Murph & Mitise Show, Australian @matildas, @aflwomens @crowsaflw dual premiership winning player and all round nice person Jenna McCormick covers the Olympics, life as an elite athlete and how she manages her mental game whilst chaos reigns around her - amongst a whole bunch of other things.... Stay tuned for the drop, coming direct to the Murph & Mitise Show YouTube channel tomorrow. We know you're going to love this one. @adam_murphy_coaching @the.independent.project #Murph #Mitise #Show

24.01.2022 In case you missed the games, a huge shoutout to Mitise's own @emilycondon08 and @jennamccormick__ for making the @wleague Team of Week - Round 1! 23.01.2022 Looks regular. Isn't. Adding a few offset load deadlifts to dancer @ailsafahy's program for a nice little midsection challenge today.... #Mitise #Dancer #Training

23.01.2022 Believe it or not, this 70kgs was my working set yesterday. Could I have done more? Sure. But the thing we really need to expound here is the importance of load management. Put simply, it's ensuring that you aren't red lining every time you train. It's ensuring you have a measured and planned approach to your return. It's ensuring your body can progressively cope with what you throw at it. So you didn't sprint for eight weeks but have come back to training with numerous box-...to-boxes? Stupid idea. Your body isn't ready yet. Start smaller in regards to reps and sets, intensity and volume. The aim is to build your body for the long term so you can finish the season robust and strong, built from the base up and ready to compete at the highest level. Foundations matter. #Mitise #StrengthandConditioning

22.01.2022 That morning glow really got us good, didn't it @nic_calder? Anyway... On to Nordics. They are great for hamstring strength and to assist in a percentage reduction of potential hamstring injuries. But they are not the be all and end all of hamstring exercises. ... So that's enough on Nordics. Some other groups of exercises that we use extensively in our injury prevention programming include (but are not limited to): Hip thrusts Deadlifts Hamstring walkouts Fitball Curls Tantrums Lunges Lateral Shuffles Chinese Planks Crawls Jumps Sprints And modified in some of the following ways depending on the person, goal, ability etc: Unilateral or Bilateral Isometric Focus Eccentric Focus Concentric Focus Explosive Controlled For Time Plane Focused With or Without Weight Alternating Paused Supine Prone Banded Stance Focused Angle Focused Static Dynamic Unstable Hip Dominant Knee Dominant Compound The list goes on... Human motion is not limited to one plane of movement at one speed of movement in one condition of movement, so an extensive injury risk minimisation and performance enhancement program needs to include a wide variety of progressed and planned movement challenges to best train the individual or team. Nordics are a good start. But they should definitely not be the middle, or the end, of your programming. #Mitise #StrengthandConditioning #Training

21.01.2022 It's not every day you make it into @thetiser on Sunday. But this one hits different... Diagnosed with prostate cancer in August, @willmcdonald9 came to Mitise to design a program that would help him maintain his muscle mass whilst undertaking his chemotherapy. With the cancer extending up and into his hip we had limitations with being able train any leg work mechanically, but knowing that a requirement of his recovery will be hip surgery it was essential to include leg, hip ...and core loading into his program. After deliberating over the effects of chemotherapy on the body and Will's specific circumstances, the program designed involved heavy giant sets (4+ exercises) with a greater (75%+) focus on upper body unilateral lifts and lower body isometric holds - utilised concurrently - to ensure Will achieved a substantial time under tension during his sessions necessary for muscle growth. Combined with a few modifications of his eating patterns and guidance from his doctors and allied health practitioners, Will's progress has moved along the lines we had planned for: - His muscle mass has INCREASED over our training period (fighting the expected effects of chemotherapy on the body) - His hip bone density has also INCREASED And most importantly - The cancer has started to recede. With much work still to do it has been one of the most challenging yet rewarding training experiences to date, and an honour to be chosen for my training knowledge and expertise in such a situation. Let's keep the momentum going, and for those of you out there wondering whether to get your ailments checked - do it, for you never know what may come up. What a year. @channel9 @willmcdonald9 #Mitise #Training #Strength #Recovery #Cancer

20.01.2022 RESIDUAL STRENGTH - is defined as the load or force (usually mechanical) that a damaged object or material can still carry without failing. RESIDUAL STRENGTH in regards to your body, could then be defined as the minimum viable strength you have to ensure you stay injury-free whilst still playing your sport. It is for this reason we encourage continuing to train throughout your rehabilitation and minimising your days off and/or away from the gym.... Keep base strength up - keep injury rates low. Simple. #Mitise #StrengthandConditioning #Training #Physio https://www.instagram.com/p/CEGBq4bjkbE/

20.01.2022 When we started, @oli.dosljak was a bit average on a few things. Expressing force was one of those things. Now, @oli.dosljak isn't too bad at expressing force. We're pretty happy.... BUT FOR FURTHER CONTEXT... Expressing force forwards and backwards, up and down is good. But being able to express (and absorb) force in multiple planes is far gooder. Initially Oli was treating this like a bit of a counter-movement (adding a dip into the beginning of the exercise), but with some cueing (using the metaphor of a bow-string pulled back to max tension) we managed to perfect the start phase and consequently develop a powerfully executed rotational snatch. #Mitise #StrengthandConditioning #Football #Training @eagleswwtfc

20.01.2022 It's the way they approach the game. That's it. With @salisburyintersc having their end of season awards night last night, it was nice to have the messages roll in this morning about our Mitise athletes cleaning up. ... A golden boot, two best and fairest's (@coterojas7 & @danwaine94) a runner-up B&F in @emilycondon08 and @nic_calder rounding out the coaches award for our senior teams. Congratulations go out to all the players, their teammates, club and league for everything that comes together to enable all players to get on the park and play the game they love. The thing is though, the awards are not earned in the games. The awards are earned on the park, in the gym and at home, during the hours of meticulous focus on touch, training and tribulation. This year has not been easy for any of these players, and with everything happening around them the ability to show up and put in week in and week out is testament to their approach to the game. They commit. They demand excellence. They execute. Consistently. As a coach it has been an honour to be in your corners this season, in the hours away from the games. As a friend I look forward to seeing what the months ahead hold. See you soon, legends. Congrats again. #Mitise #AthleteDevelopment

18.01.2022 Answers to some questions that have come through from last night's Soccer Specific program release (see previous post). For coaches: I would recommend implementing the running and sprinting components of each session prior to any ball work you will be doing with your players. Reason being is you want them to be able to work at their maximum physical potentials to elicit the best results. The suggested rest breaks will give the players enough recovery to still be efficient o...n the balls so you won't be losing any quality touch time. If you are planning on recommending the program to your players on top of your own training sessions, ensure your running components don't hit the same qualities ours do - focus on more aerobic work (> 60 secs) instead of the shorter, higher intensity drills you'll find here. For players: This is a short program but an intensive one. Work at maximum or close to your maximum for all exercises and ensure you stick to the suggested rest breaks - no less. The strength and power components can be substituted for your own strength/power sessions you may currently be doing or have prescribed. Technique is king. Listen to the cues given and/or adapt as necessary. Head to the link in my bio for the YouTube version and follow that through to find a savable version. Soccer's coming back. Let's get at it. #Mitise #Soccer #Football #Training

15.01.2022 Working with @banana_custard on perfecting her golf swing. Although this doesn't look like her golf swing. Because it shouldn't.... The aim is to overload Hannah in different ways in the gym to ensure that when it comes time for her golf coach to provide technique tips on her swing, she has the requisite strength and co-ordination to be able to do what is asked of her. This rotation effort is just one component of a multi-faceted program consisting of unilateral strength and stability, anti-rotation and anti-extension efforts, twice weekly for an hour at a time, all designed to help Hannah hit a tiny ball into a slightly bigger hole from hundreds of metres away. Not bhed at all. #Mitise #Golf

07.01.2022 Rehab ~ Return ~ Performance. Welcome to Mitise Physio!

06.01.2022 Filmed in March, we knew there would be a need for a sprint and speed based program for soccer athletes during these times. We decided not to release the program then as with no start date for a return to sport, we did not want to provide a program whose returns would be diminishing as restrictions extended. But now, with level B AIS restrictions to be effective from Monday - meaning teams can train in small groups - we thought this might be the perfect time for all soccer at...hletes, regardless of fitness or ability, to gain access to this complimentary physical conditioning program. Four weeks and a couple of cones is all you need, just click the link below and follow the description through to our website. I hope this new program provides you a little something while soccer starts to make its slow return, and any feedback or training clips you take while training be sure to send them through. Feel free to share with anyone you may feel will benefit from such a program also. See you soon https://www.vidrise.com/v/9jce3/

06.01.2022 Our season ended on Saturday, but our season I will carry with me always. With many lessons learned in what was ultimately a disjointed, tumultuous year, I could not have been more honoured with the willingness and diligence of the @eagleswwtfc women and coaching staff to take to my training programs, drills and conditioning sets throughout our time together. I thank each and every one of you for taking me into the nest from day one.... I know @coachbperformance and the ghost that is Mitchell the Intern also appreciate all of you, and my thanks extends to making them feel welcome also. There'll be more to come (maybe even a @murphandmitiseshow episode on the year that was), but for now enjoy the deload, reload time and I shall see you very soon. Always, much love. #Mitise

06.01.2022 "I don't believe in gym training." That's okay. Pure belief - and definitely not scientific rationale or reasoning - has allowed humans to design, build, engineer, evolve and adapt successfully to their environments over the last 200,000 years.... Belief provides us comfort that what we're doing is good for us. That we the individual know what is ultimately best for our outcomes. So while I haven't yet heard of a person walking off this flat Earth of ours, I have heard of many a person getting steamrolled on a field, court or pitch by someone else who knows (structured) gym training can benefit them. Sometimes, beliefs can't hurt us. But other times, they consistently do. @oli.dosljak. 16 years old. 01.01.2022 Cheeky little agility drill for your morning (as developed for my NPL Blue Eagles squad). The aim was to give a moderately loaded conditioning component whilst challenging the agility of the players. What you're seeing here is the final version of my three-stage drill. The first stage - the static players raise their arm in the direction for the running player to get around them. ... The second stage - the static players SAY a direction (left/right) for the running player to get around them. The third and final stage - the static players EITHER raise an arm OR say a direction and the running player has to dodge around them IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. Basically what I am looking to do here is challenge the players physically whilst also challenging their visual, auditory and decision making abilities under duress. With such an integral part of sport being to react to the direction of your teammates or opponents - sometimes without visuals of what may be about to take place - utilising a range of sensory challenges to achieve the physical outcomes you are planning for ensures your players are equipped with the tools they need to succeed, whilst also adding an element of fun to the sessions. More to come #Mitise #StrengthandConditioning #Training
