25.01.2022 Newest members of the Feral Farm family. Grayson and Lucinda.

24.01.2022 It's really hard to rehome roosters, especially if they are not "show quality". Some of our Wyandotte roosters hatch with the "wrong comb", heaven forbid, because of a recessive trait that many Wyandottes carry. This is why we decided to support the Trowunna Wildlife Park and their efforts to help save the Tasmanian Devil population. This week we delivered our surplus roosters that aren't required for our breeding program to the Park at Mole Creek. There they are quickly and humanely processed to become food for some of our unique and endangered wildlife. Although we are always sad to see these friendly little fellows go, they have a good life where they are loved and we are so proud to be able to support Trowunna Wildlife Park in there endeavours.

21.01.2022 About Our Eggs Our chooks are all Heritage Breed Wyandottes and Silkies or a cross of these called Wylkies. We like the Wylkies because they are excellent mums, almost as good as the Silkies, but are bigger and lay bigger eggs. Wylkies are very pretty and show tufty hairstyles like Silkies and laced feathers like the Wyandottes. Of course, the Wyandottes are pretty naughty and are always up to something when they are not busy laying beautiful eggs or going broody. They are ...experts at hiding eggs for a while, disappearing and then suddenly reappearing three weeks later with a heap of kids. Our Silkies are very chatty and love to sit in your lap for a pat and a sleep. They lay perfectly shaped shiny, small white or buff coloured eggs that are perfectly suited for children of all ages to have that tailor sized boiled egg. We don't use growth hormones, chemicals to make the yolks look more yellow or any nasty stuff like that. Everything is kept as natural as possible. The hens have a mansion to live in with heaps of room for doing chook stuff and getting out of the sun, rain or wind. La Masion Du Poulet is situated in a private orchard with lots of shade, plenty of grass and a few windfall fruit to taste test. They have access to about four acres of pasture and trees during the day and we do our best to keep them safe at night. The only time they are penned is for quarantine purposes or to keep mum and her chicks safe. Oh, some serial offenders are gaoled in the Book Depository for a couple of days of rest and relaxation for being broody too much - nothing too serious, just plenty to eat and drink, but no nests or eggs to tempt them back to their addiction. Their foraged food is supplemented with vegetarian feed sourced wherever possible from Tasmanian manufacturers and suppliers. As this feed does not contain any meat products, it doesn't effect the health of our goats if they happen to steal any. Our eggs are produced and packed in accordance with our Food Safety Management Statement that has been approved by the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water & Environment and Biosecurity Tasmania. All our eggs are stamped with our unique code to reflect this and our dedication to producing the best eggs we can. We are sure that you can taste the difference. Let us know what you think.
