23.01.2022 Just confirming that our Year 5 and 6 Gala Day scheduled for today has been postponed. Unfortunately some of the fields to be used were too wet after this week of rain. Email was sent yesterday. We will advise early next week once a rescheduled date is confirmed.
22.01.2022 Tomorrow is our Year 3 - 6 Swimming carnival. If your student is attending, don't forget (as per the permission note) we would like them here by 8.15am to mark rolls and send off buses so we have time for all of our events. Please refer to the note for a reminder of what they should bring, arrangements for food and other important information.
21.01.2022 We are aware that a storm is due here shortly. We have communicated to teachers and students to leave class promptly and head to their pick up point quickly. We have also reminded them to be safe on roads. If there is lightning in the next 5 minutes we will keep the students in class.
21.01.2022 Our Junior Concert band tried out our new lighting effects on parade this morning.
21.01.2022 Mr Bryant released the updated version of Part1 of our School Song at the Academic Assembly this morning. Students loved the new version!
21.01.2022 Great news, the School Banking program is back at Ferny Grove! With social distancing in place and all Covid-safe protocols being followed, the banking volunteers are ready to process your student/s' banking deposits from this Thursday (Week 4) 29 October 2020. We're sure the students are keen to resurrect their token tally and grab some great rewards that are on offer this year. Here is a link to the list of rewards and also a reward order form if you wish to request a rewa...rd and have 10 or more tokens collected. https://www.commbank.com.au//treetop-savers-rewards-colour So, we hope to see your bank books rolling in!
16.01.2022 Thank-you Tony Clark for the images.
15.01.2022 2020 and CoVID has meant that much of the fundraising that our P & C Association does to raise funds for resources, projects and infrastructure here at Ferny Grove State School has not been possible. So here is the link to our Silent Auction - https://www.ebay.com.au/usr/fgssfestival This is a great chance for you to support our school with our P & C Silent Auction (normally during Festival) which is currently live and full of awesome things to bid on for Christmas gifts. It... closes this Saturday so head on over to make a bid and get some of your shopping done early. Over 40 items including bikes, scooters, fitbits, pool toys and other sports equipment. Also help us out by sharing this post with your friends and family so they can also bid and support our school.
14.01.2022 Every year FGSS wears red in support of the Daniel Morcombe Foundation and their message of safety for young people. After a walk around our oval, two of our student councillors shared a message of child safety. This valued day highlights our Ferny Grove State School learning principle of Empowerment, reminding us all to be vigilant and to empower our students to Recognise, React & Report anything that challenges their safety. Thank-you to Mrs Reid and the Student Council organising the event. Thank-you to the Queensland Police Service for your support and planning. #KeepingKidsSafe #DayforDaniel
14.01.2022 Congratulations to the recipients of Academic Awards for Term 2!
14.01.2022 This week is Book Week (rescheduled nationally due to CoVID). Tomorrow (Thursday 22 October) is Dress as your Favourite Book Character Day for those who would like to participate. Book Week is a great time to highlight the importance of reading. Talk to your children about books you loved reading when you were young, encourage them to try something they have never read before, make time to spend reading with your children. Anything to help foster a love for a reading is time well spent.
12.01.2022 Don't forget we are participating in Day for Daniel again this year, but a day early, this Thursday 29 October. Wear a red shirt. Bring a gold coin donation. Things will be low key because of CoVID but we will share the messages of safety and be joined by some local members of the Queensland Police Service.
10.01.2022 5J are expected back at school at approximately 3:20 this afternoon due to delays.
09.01.2022 Hi School Bankers, This Thursday 3rd December will be the last banking day for the year. Any rewards ordered this week will be received in Term 1 2021. Rewards ordered last week (or earlier) should be delivered before the end of term, depending on Australia Post timelines.... Thanks to everyone for your support this year for the short time we actually got to process banking! Hopefully we will all be back to some kind of normal in 2021. Have a wonderful Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year, from your School Banking volunteers: Heather (retiring - we'll miss you!), Louise, Cathie, Tracie and Katrina.
08.01.2022 Well-done to our talented performance arts group on a successful opening night. Thank-you to Mr Sandilands and all the staff and parent volunteer crew for making events like this happen!
05.01.2022 SPAG BOL is gearing up for their end of year production, "Trouble in Lollipop". Some of our acting students got together to make this video to remind everyone that they're still working hard to put on a great show. Applications packs for SPAG BOL 2021 will be available for students in year 3,4 & 5 later this week.
05.01.2022 Every year as part of our value of care and compassion, our Chappy works alongside local churches and our school community to provide Hampers and encourage those who for all different reasons are finding things hard. This is a practical way we can help and support each other. The kids have heard about this through our teachers, and it was in the last newsletter, but we would love to see a surge of donations up to our deadline this Thursday. Non-perishable items for hampers ...(including Christmas treats) can be brought to the Chappy Room or placed under the Christmas tree in the library. The hampers will be distributed to those families during the last week of school. I love this opportunity to give and it means so much to those who receive. Thank you for all you support and generosity in the past. I think we are very blessed to be involved in a community that extends a caring hand at this special time of year. Chappy Alexia
04.01.2022 Students vying for the positions of School Captain/Vice Captain delivered some brilliant speeches yesterday. It was wonderful to hear our School Values and Learning Principles being cited in many of the messages.
