25.01.2022 Cultural awareness and multiculturalism is important to us at Aurora. We honor and celebrate all cultures and traditions and this allows our children to have a deeper understanding of the world we live in. Dashain" one of the great Hindu festivals was celebrated at the centre today. Miss Sanshila lead a beautiful group time with our junior preschool and preschool children to explain her cultural celebration. She explained that friends and families visit each other to put o...n Tika (mixture of rice, yoghurt and red colour) and receive blessings from their elders. It is celebrated for 10 days. The myth is that the Goddess Durga conquered Mahisasur, the demon who terrorised the whole world, so the Dashain is celebrated for the victory of good over evil. Celebrated with great joy by flying kites, playing swing and making delicious foods. 22.01.2022 Aurora Early Learning Centres were founded by a Speech and Language Pathologist who is passionate about inclusion and early intervention in the early childhood education sector. This is one of the sessions that she recently led with one of our beautiful boys at our Frenchs Forest service having spoken to his therapists at length about his intensive early intervention goals and program. This short session aimed at providing Ollie with a chance to have one on one in our learnin...g space, creating an opportunity to practice joint attention, task completion and of course, language function practice - requesting as the function being practiced. Ollie has an ACC devise which was available to him, but as can be seen from the video, Ollie was engaged and focused and was able to maintain attention, imitate modeled sentences and request using both verbal and sign languages. 18.01.2022 Not only do we love honoring all cultures, races and religions at our centre, but we love it even more when we introduce and teach our children new things. We’ve been celebrating Hanukkah alongside Christmas at our Frenchs Forest service. Hanukkah (which means ‘to dedicate’) is observed for 8 nights. Milana was able to borrow a well loved menorah from a friend so we can light a candle a day. Cathy made special Jewish food that is traditionally eaten around this time of year s...uch as latkes (potato hash) and sufganiyot (round donuts). The children got to enjoy teaching moments about this special Jewish celebration and even got to make traditional Jewish bread, Challah. 15.01.2022 We are truly thankful to our families and friends of Aurora who have help us donate much needed funds to the ‘Walk for Women & children’ fundraiser that we took part in during November. We pledged to walk 10K steps every day of the month of November to raise money on behalf of the Manly Warringah Women’s Resource Centre.
