25.01.2022 It happens in our own country. It happens in remote communities and goes unnoticed by media and the public. Read about it, get informed as this problem is in our own backyard. o Indigenous Australians are 3% of the population, yet 30% of the prison population o 432 Indigenous Australians died in custody since 1991

24.01.2022 'Finding Our Heart' written by Thomas Mayor. A story about the Uluru Statement for Young Australians. This book created a space for my kids and I to have meaningful conversations in a clear and simple way. This is a book about understanding Australia’s past, so we can have a shared future. If you haven't already I highly recommend purchasing to read with your young ones. Buy the book here: https://bit.ly/fjfindingourheart

20.01.2022 THANK YOU for helping us raise $10,000 to strengthen the health and education of our girls and young First Nations women of Cape York. The sisterhood is an enormous force for change and together we are mobilising an amazing network of women who share a dream for our girls. That dream is quite simple, for our girls to be healthy and strong in mind, body and spirit, to learn and prosper in school and beyond. You can join the sisterhood here: https://capeyorkpartnership.org.au/...our-sisters-tees/ - Our Sisters

16.01.2022 ALWAYS WAS, ALWAYS WILL BE The Guugu Yimithirr Nations goes back way before Europeans settled in Australia. Our history was first recorded 1770 by Captain Coo...k. However, due to the gold fever rush in the area, a Mission was established at Cape Bedford called Hope Valley in 1886, on the beach of Thiithaarr Warra Country. During World War II, the mission was evacuated to an Aboriginal settlement in Central Queensland called Woorabinda, where many of our people died from the flu. In 1949 with the help of the Lutheran Mission, a work crew was allowed to return in 1949 to re-establish Hope Valley and called it Hope Vale which is now on Thuubi Warra country. In 1950 the rest of the families and community members returned home. Hope Vale is no longer run as a Mission by the church but by its own elected Shire Council. Hope Vale is home to 13 clan groups as well as historically people who were brought in as children from other countries around Queensland, from top end of Cape York, South East corner of Queensland and areas west. We mostly speak Guugu Yimidhirr and other related languages, including English. The Hope Vale community has a strong choral singing tradition since its evacuation to Woorabinda. The singing choir still practices songs in language today. Always was, always will be for Hope Vale is a strong community in culture, language, song and art. The Elders gone before us led the way in work ethics and talents that are now passed on. The school integrates language, culture and learning into their everyday teachings. We are encouraging, supporting and enhancing the capacity of our children to reach for the stars, through better education and opportunities, so they live a life they have reason to value. #alwayswasalwayswillbe2020

11.01.2022 Excellent to join the AU/NZ Indigenous Dialogue - "Living Indigenous Leadership - Building Strong Communities" It is heartening to see so many leaders across a vast array of business wanting to work with, learn from and connect to Indigenous and First Nation people. 10.01.2022 Noel Pearson last night paid tribute to ‘mentor and guide’ Mark Leibler at the launch of his biography An Australian Jewish Life by journalist Michael Gawenda. Noel saluted Leibler’s moral leadership of his people from the horrors of the holocaust and shares some learnings from this ‘great Australian life’. It was from Leibler that Noel says he observed a community, that despite being victims of egregious racism, maintained their culture, their religion, pursued their interests, prosperity, and made a new history for themselves they enjoy the best of both worlds this is a lesson that guides Noel’s hopes and dreams for Cape York’s young people.
