25.01.2022 DID YOU KNOW... I didn’t start out painting landscapes? Until this year, most of my work was still life compositions. 24.01.2022 Swipe to see the grinning artist Said my goodbyes to this commission yesterday, but not before having it up on my own wall for a couple of days after I framed it. Just to make sure it would behave itself... This one was a perfect angel : : ‘NEAR AND FAR’ original oil painting on panel hand framed in Tas Oak... commission : : I currently have 4 commission slots available for next quarter. DM / email me if you’d like to chat about creating a painting that’s uniquely your own. See more

24.01.2022 Messing around with paintings soon to be collected. This one was purchased as a gift for a sibling, in a classy attempt to lure them back to Tasmanian shores. . . . ‘The View Through’... 6x12 inch | 15 x 30cm SOLD See more

22.01.2022 NOT a toothpaste commercial. It’s a new blog post all about my latest plein air adventures - this time with an improved set-up! Take a look via the LINK IN MY BIO @fionaverdouw_art Happy reading!

20.01.2022 And that’s a wrap! Dressed these guys up in their brand-name, label clothing - ready to ship, deliver and hand them over to their new art-lovin’ owners. Who else is keeping their ears pricked for the sound of the postman these days?

19.01.2022 I've lived in this region for two decades, but I only discovered Stinkpot Bay two weeks ago. It was an unusually humid day and the heat blurred the details of the view. Mt Wellington receded into the haze as I wondered (and not for the first time), why do the places with unattractive names end up being the most picturesque? @ Howden

18.01.2022 This was one of those days that start out overcast, but then the sun burns through all those clouds and before you know it, you’re walking the dog in warm sunshine, and regretting your decision to dress in 15 layers. : : ‘Blue Skies Ahead’ (Kingston Beach Tasmania) SOLD

17.01.2022 And that, my friends is a wrap. Always such a good feeling to step back and decide that enough is enough and it’s time to sign off. #jobdone

17.01.2022 Big clouds and bold colours are the name of the game this Thursday. Fun fact: I wrote-off my future mother-in-law’s car on a road like this. That led to one of the more awkward conversations I’ve ever had to have in life... Anyone else crashes another persons car before?

16.01.2022 Love Love LOVE seeing how my collectors hang their paintings. These snaps came through from a buyer who asked me to frame not only my painting, but the two pieces she was planning to hang it with. The piece diagonally below my Treetops was created by a family member, and the painting on the other wall is a gorgeous work by artist Claire Bremner. Thanks @thelandofdreams !

15.01.2022 Apparently, it’s #dogday today. I can’t actually confirm this because I’m too lazy to punch the words, ‘When is it Dog Day?’ into Google, and yet, it would be a pity not to be topical for once in my short Instagramming life. So here’s a digital painting I started a long time ago in #artrageapp of my late dog-in-law, Bobby. He belonged to my husband’s parents and brought them lots of joy - which more or less sums up the purpose of a pet dog, don’t you think?

14.01.2022 This tree at #springbeachtasmania looked about as relaxed as any beach goer should. Here's to summer fast approaching : : 'Laid Back' 6 x 8inch | 15 x 20cm original oil painting on panel

13.01.2022 I came close to climbing onto the roof of the house that overlooks this view. I’d already parked across the front gate and wandered spellbound down their driveway to take this reference photo, so why not add a bit of gutter-swinging into the mix? . ‘Across the Bay’ 6 1/2 x 9 3/4 inches | 16.5 x 24.5cm Original oil painting on panel.

13.01.2022 Cosy cabin feels on my feed today This is actually just a very small portion of a commission I was working on, but don’t you think that when details are zoomed in on, they make interesting little paintings all on their own? They’re like the canapés of the painting world: Bite sized, but still completely tasty packages all on their own. Okay. I shouldn’t write posts when I’m hungry - it really affects my work

12.01.2022 Plain Air Painting Adventure No.2 - @ruthbosveldart and I managed to dodge wind and rain yesterday to get ourselves a painting fix down at Montrose bay. I *think* I might be heading towards an addiction here... Swipe for process shots... @ Montrose Bay Walkway

11.01.2022 I’m on the cusp of the ‘gawky teenager’ phase of this painting. Personal experience of having been a less-than-graceful teenager myself tells me not to despair at this point. Just feed it pizza and it might still come good.

11.01.2022 Experimenting with different compositions for my next commission. I think this one’s going to be pretty!

11.01.2022 Thumbs Up for Thumbnails: How Small Sketches Can Be a Big Help https://www.fionaverdouw.com//thumbs-up-for-thumbnail-sket

11.01.2022 This is how it all begins: A request for a painting of a favourite view, followed by some thumbnail sketches to assist my collector to visualise and choose their preferred format. Which would you choose?

10.01.2022 Time-lapse video of my oil painting process.

09.01.2022 Don’t you think that sunsets are a bit like really phenomenal dreams? They don’t occur every night, and when they do, they are fleeting. Shifting and fading from grasp; leaving you wondering if you really did experience them as vividly as you thought... . ‘Skies on Fire’ 10 x 26 inches | 25.5 x 66cm Original oil painting on panel

09.01.2022 What I love about painting commissions are the little back-stories that come with them. Who can guess the significance of this hill-top scene in Flowerpot, Tasmania to the people who asked me to paint it for them? A clue to help you: It involves LOVE.

08.01.2022 So many subtle colours in today’s painting. If you’re a pastel loving tree hugger, this post is for you!

08.01.2022 Going back to my roots with a combination of student grade paints, budget brushes and oil sketch paper. Messing about with some quick studies to gauge how best to teach a beginner the über-basics. (Yup. Exciting news ahead folks! )

07.01.2022 When is a cheap paintbrush TOO cheap? https://www.fionaverdouw.com//when-is-a-cheap-paint-brush-

06.01.2022 A throwback for your Thursday The original’s sold, but an Fine Art Print was bought off my website and, out of curiosity, I had another print made - to see how it fit in a cheap IKEA frame I had lying around. It’s not bad for a cheap and cheerful fix!

05.01.2022 What I get up to while waiting for gesso to dry on my painting panels. Whoever said It’s as boring as watching paint dry clearly didn’t have pencils and a sketchbook handy.

04.01.2022 My most recent paintings are now available. If any of these take your fancy, you can comment or DM me to secure your purchase before they are uploaded to my online store this Friday.

04.01.2022 How To Find Time to Make Art https://www.fionaverdouw.com/e/how-to-find-time-to-make-art

03.01.2022 A bit of a moody one for your Monday. Help me choose a title? It’s down to these two: 1. Seeking the lime light. OR 2. Moody Monstera... Happy start of the work week everybody!

03.01.2022 In a moment of self-awareness, it dawned on me that I may have a soft spot for red rooftops... This place is just around the corner from my house and is so deliciously full of character. It’s location on Google Maps marks it as ‘The Chimneys’ - I’m not sure if this is a reference to the house name, or perhaps the site was historically the meeting place for a chain-smokers’ club, but I’ve decided to use it to title this piece. . ‘The Chimney’ 6 x 8 inch | 15 x 20cm... Original oil painting on panel @ Margate, Tasmania See more

03.01.2022 Painting can be like bushwalking: You just have to push on, navigating rough patches, seeking ways to stay on track, and always, always keeping the final destination in mind - because that’s what makes it all worthwhile! (Sounds like a metaphor for faith too, come to think of it...) This commission is in its awkward semi-state stage. (I really am going by faith at this point!) But it’ll be a cracker! #persist

02.01.2022 Painting To Achieve Flow: Day 3 of 5 https://www.fionaverdouw.com/ex/paint-challenge-day-3-ew89r

02.01.2022 This 12 x 16 commission is almost ready to have it’s peachy skies cop a varnish. Based off a smaller painting I did back in November, it was an interesting exercise to recreate the lack of detail on a grander scale. Favourite part of this scene would have to be the little rocks out in the water off the headland.

01.01.2022 A bit of colour for your Monday If you’d like a bit of colour in your inbox, I’ve just sent my mailing list a snapshot of the month’s paintings available for purchase. Anything they like, they can snap up before it goes onto my online store this Thursday. Comment or DM me with your email address if you’d like to join the fun
