23.01.2022 To most 343 is just a number. To nearly all firefighters around the world, it is a humbling reminder of the events that took place in New York on this day, 19 y...ears ago. This is because on 9/11, 343 New York City Fire Department (FDNY) firefighters did not finish their shift. The tragedy claimed the lives of 2977 innocent victims, and many continue to be impacted. To date, 227 additional firefighters have died with illnesses related to 9/11, with 27 names recently added to the FDNY World Trade Centre Memorial Wall. FRNSW shares deep and personal connections with FDNY, we will never forget the immediate and ongoing loss they were dealt and continue to deal with, all those affected are in our thoughts today. 23.01.2022 A Motorcycle riders worst nightmare came true last night in Wingello when he collided with a wombat on the road. Our team attended to the rider who was seriously injured and airlifted by Toll Ambulance to Sydney. We wish him all the best and hope he recovers soon.

22.01.2022 The team at 242 certainly discovered yesterday was First Responders Day, with 4 call outs from 0330 until 1600. Not all patients were transported to hospital, but the ones who were, are doing well. Just a quick mention to our very first Skate Park casualty, a middle aged Gentleman. You were a good sport and we hope you are cutting some moves soon, but maybe leave the skateboarding to the kids, or get them to give you some lessons?

21.01.2022 We were just called to a cat, which is five metres up a tree! Nice night for a rescue.

20.01.2022 Out and about today checking and maintaining the hydrants. Lucky we found this one.....it was full of mud!

20.01.2022 You may have seen some action at our station this weekend. From the floors to the roof, our second home got an absolute once over. Our grounds are trimmed, and we no longer have trees growing in the gutters thanks to Andrew Brough, (Bruffy). The truck and 4wd are squeaky clean and even the BBQ got a work out!

19.01.2022 Update from tonight's call out in Middle Road Exeter. Great news. The chimney caught fire and was quickly eradicated by the units on scene. The house is okay! Well done to all involved.

15.01.2022 Our day started with a bang, literally. Fortunately for the driver of this Ranger Rover, he escaped unharmed, however it was a different story for his vehicle. Northbound near Paddys River, our team along with RFS from Bundanoon, Exeter, and Wingello were called to extinguish the fire, as well as manage the traffic on the freeway. ... 40 minutes later, only a shell was left. Fantastic work by everyone involved. It is so good to see how well RFS and Fire and Rescue NSW work together in harmony for our community. We have had a lot of practice lately! 07.01.2022 A couple of very early morning call outs for the crew in the last few days, and two today which thankfully, were not medical. It is regulation for us to now wear masks if we are within 1.5 metres of our patients or carers. Take care and stay safe everybody! From us all at 242.

06.01.2022 Are your coals cold A lucky homeowner has his quick thinking neighbours to thank, after they noticed a fire coming from the roof of his house last weekend.... After clearing out their fire-pit in the morning and putting the ash/coals in the bin, this homeowner went out later that day and returned to 5 CFA appliances , 2 melted wheelie bins and 2 quick thinking neighbours who jumped the fence earlier and using a couple of garden hoses extinguished the fire, preventing extensive damage. Lilydale CFA was supported by Chirnside Park Fire Brigade - CFA and Mooroolbark Fire Brigade - CFA Winter months are a timely reminder for residence to ensure they're disposing of any hot ash from wood fires safely and responsibly. Place ash in a metal container, using a metal shovel or another appropriate tool. Never use flammable materials for ash disposal, such as plastic bags, paper, or cardboard boxes. Place the metal bucket outside, and pour water into it to douse any hot embers. Keep in mind that hot coal or wood can smoulder for days. After adding water, stir the ashes, so that all of the bucket's contents are wet. Place the ash bucket away from flammable materials, and tightly secure the lid. Do not put the metal container on a wooden floor or any other type of flammable surface. If you vacuum remaining ashes out of your wood stove, only use a vacuum that is especially designed for the purpose of removing hot and cold embers. Safely transport the secured metal container to your nearest waste facility as required; OR Place cooled, moist wood ashes in your compost bin to improve the compost for your gardens. Hot ashes joined a number of unsafe items that should not be placed into wheelie bins including batteries, smoke alarms, fire extinguishers, construction and demolition waste, large electrical appliances and gas bottles.

05.01.2022 It was a huge night last night for some of our crew who were out in the elements for hours, cutting fallen trees from roads and tending to cfr call outs. One of our crew had to go from Bundanoon after the job around midnight, via Moss Vale to get back home to Wingello. That is how bad our roads were. Stay safe everyone, and keep warm

04.01.2022 We woke this morning to very dramatic footage of a catastrophic explosion in Beirut, Lebanon. News is now starting to surface that many of those killed were fir...efighters from the surrounding area who were dealing with the initial fire- which lead to the explosion. As a department with Lebanese emigrants currently working today in stations across NSW we keep these firefighters as well as their city and their country in our thoughts. See more
