19.01.2022 Setup for Onyx- Handmade product session: Neewer Vision 4 with soft box, acrylic sheet, A2 sized paper from the craft shop as back drop. Who needs a studio, right...? By changing the settings on the camera from standard to outdoors mode the photos came out in a warmer tone and minimised the colour correction work. Post production was mainly removing dust and scratches from the acrylic sheet because no matter how much you wipe that thing the macro lens still captures EVERYT...HING. Questions? 18.01.2022 What is a photographer to do... ...while the models are changing outfits? Well, grab a cheeky selfie where I look effortlessly cool of course ... Not many people have the confidence to stand in front of a camera and pose like you would at home alone in front of a mirror. I’ve have modelling experience and I know it’s not easy to be in front of a lens and the photographer says nothing. The people I work with are gorgeous souls and I direct them to look their best. I ensure they’re comfortable and I talk them through their poses, insecurities and the look they are going for. Sometimes I take 20 photos and the client is happy with 1. GOOD! Then we have found a threshold! I take 20-30 more and boom, magic happens. Shoulders are down, smile is on point. 13.01.2022 Yes, that’s me! I used to model! Here for the very talented Jessi Chang. While studying photography I modelled a lot in Japan. Legs, art, and fashion modelling to mention a few, and did the occasional catwalk. ... So, when I talk about modelling and how all bodies are welcome in front of my camera lens...it’s because MY body wasn’t always thin enough and photographers or agents made me feel like shit about it. In this photo for example, the dress wasn’t even zipped in the back and my posture was holding it in place I don’t ever want to make anyone feel like they’re less worthy because of their body shape. Less beautiful because you’ve gained weight. It’s not your fault that untalented designers didn’t make clothes in real people-size. So, when I say all bodies, all genders, all welcome...I mean it. 08.01.2022 Behind every strong Woman is another - the makeup look. Believe it or not, 1920’s was the era in which makeup became ‘accepted’ by society. This was the beginning of the rogue in a compact that came in ONLY 2 shades of red! Lipsticks were bright and the top lip the Cupid’s bow was emphasised. Kohl was used for eye shadow and dark greys were favourited for the smokey eye-look. @sophiejohnson.mua applied the makeup meticulously and we took test shots to see how much stuc...k in the photos and adjusted thereafter. Short hair was considered something of a rebellious act. When you couldn’t decide to bob or not to bob cut your hairthere were other hairstyles women relied on for the fake-short look. @myra_goldcoasthairandmakeup sculpted waves for @christinacheneryy and @taylinlynette got ringlet curls. 05.01.2022 Behind every strong Woman is another - the wardrobe BTS. The clothes women wore during 1920-30’s were usually dresses. I wanted to highlight the usage of trousers as working women used them and were considered an important symbol of independence. Our costume designer Amber - handmadebyamberfraser - pointed out during our meeting that the women on my inspiration board were actually wearing men’s suits. I hadn’t even noticed that the pants had zippers! ... Amber sewed many of the items from scratch to fit the models @taylinlynette and @christinacheneryy. They had a fitting deadline set a month prior to the actual shoot to give Amber time to create and work her magic. 04.01.2022 Did you know that flash photography wipes out up to 75% of your makeup? I’m not talking about smart phone flashes. Whenever working with flash photography in studio or outdoors, it’s important to understand that sometimes even the makeup products can become a flash photographers worst nightmare. For example, anything SPF will bounce the flash in the most unflattering way and the face might look sweaty, or even become streaky white. Not contouring can make the face look fl...at or not filling in the eyebrows will make your model look like a surprised egg. The list goes on! I say we because this wouldn’t have happen without the help of @hegney39 who let us use the @wolstonfarmhouse, the oldest surviving farmhouse in Brisbane. @handmadebyamberfraser who tailored and styled the shoot to match the era of 1920-30’s perfectly. ... @sophiejohnson.mua whose excellent makeup skills keep boggling me. She also scouted the models @christinacheneryy and @taylinlynette among about 20 applicants; both amazing and experienced. @myra_goldcoasthairandmakeup created the exceptional hair styles of both models. 4 months of planing, scouting models and sourcing the right people and equipment.
