25.01.2022 Have you checked out our new website yet? We're really please with how it's come together, under the guidance of our talented design partner Michael Precel. We're especially proud of one particular part of the site: our new content hub Firescribe. It's a place where we talk about the things that matter to us; from discussions around storytelling and communications to reflections on life and the world we live in. Because we're interested in a lot of different things. It's also... a place for our partners and friends to publish interesting, useful content. There are articles there ranging from 2-8 minute reads and stories ranging from why we believe storytelling is critical in the time of COVID-19 to tops tips from Ben's mum about how to live frugally but well. Check out the link below and sign up to the Firescribe newsletter to get articles and other content delivered straight to your inbox. #fireside #firesideagency #communications

25.01.2022 Yes, lockdown v2 is a pain, but the next six weeks can be a period where we not only get our work done, but also take time out to explore new ways of thinking and drink from the massive reservoir of wisdom that is now available to all of us from the comfort of our home offices/kitchen tables. Our contribution to this is the full video from the event we held last year with our friends at Content Smith, on the topic of 'Communicating Your Why'. We got such great feedback from those who attended about the insights and practical tips they got on living a more purposeful life from panellists Sally Capp, Russel Howcroft, Stephen Donnelly and Sabina Read Psychology. https://firesideagency.com.au/firescribe/unscripted

21.01.2022 There's nothing quite like sitting down with another person and hearing their story. It's the quickest way to form connection and understand their motivations. Most importantly, stories make us care. Fireside specialises in helping you craft your essential story, creating a powerful tool to effectively communicate who you are to the people that matter. #fireside #firesideagency #communications #storytelling

20.01.2022 Another shoutout to a Fireside collaborator who gives us strength as we navigate the challenges of COVID-19. Business advisor @rossclark53 from Why What How has been instrumental in who we are, and where we hope to go. Every new business needs a Ross, providing sage advice and support in the good and not-so-good times. He's been a supporter of Fireside from the very beginning - we often feel as though he's as invested in our success as we are. ... Having someone who knows our business through and through and who can pose the tough questions as proved invaluable to us. Thank you Ross for always being there for us when we need it. #fireside #firesideagency #communications #thankyou See more

16.01.2022 As a community, how do we lock in the positive changes that have emerged from COVID-19 and other crises to build a kinder, more inclusive and sustainable world? Leading Melbourne strategy and partnership consultancy, Synergy2030, helmed by Victoria Thom, helps organisations come together with their stakeholders to answer to the question What is the future we want to see? We loved working with Victoria to help #Synergy2030 find clarity in its own story, so... that she can continue to do the amazing work she does. 15.01.2022 At Fireside, we believe that telling your story well is the most powerful way that you can communicate your purpose, mission and message to your community. 11.01.2022 When traditional public health messaging isn’t reaching key groups, it’s time to try new things. Telling stories of regret might not on the surface seem like an obvious choice in combating the pandemic. But they could end up being a powerful and positive tool to change behaviour.

11.01.2022 Fireside is a storytelling-led communications agency. This means we specialise in helping you unearth your essential story of impact, then we help you develop great ways of telling that story it to the right people. We work with not-for-profit organisations, for-purpose businesses, public sector bodies, community initiatives and amazing individuals intent on changing the world. We can help if you’re starting from scratch, or you’re stuck in the development of your storytelling engine and need some help. #fireside #firesideagency #communications

10.01.2022 We got in touch with our friend, Courtney Carthy from Melbourne's "Nearly" podcast network to chat about the rise of the podcast in the pandemic world. Check out his guest post on #Firescribe below to get his tried and tested tips and tricks for making a great podcast from the comfort of your living room. #fireside #firesideagency #communications

10.01.2022 With lots of exciting projects in the pipeline, Fireside Agency is looking for a media relations freelancer to step in and help us level the storytelling playing field in favour of the good guys. If you're someone who has good relationships with Melbourne journos, experience in campaigns and a good track record in both reactive and proactive media, we'd love you to get in touch by emailing [email protected]. To find out more about what we do, the way we do it, an...d some of the great people we’ve recently helped (like Nightingale Housing, ClimateWorks Australia, Darebin City Council and Renewable Energy Hub) check out our website via this link: https://www.firesideagency.com.au. #communicationsjobs #communications #fireside #firesideagency #storytelling

09.01.2022 A little story about hope. Of all Fireside’s clients, Sandy Carr probably had the most to lose from COVID-19 and therefore had the biggest excuse for deferring the branding and content work he'd engaged us to do for his amazing Brunswick shop, Hope Street Space. Like other retail businesses across the country, he had to shut the store, containing a treasure trove of found objects, curios and memorabilia, in April.... But instead of pushing off the job with us, he approached the engagement with new enthusiasm. "This is the perfect time to do it, Ben," he told me with a smile. "And we'll be back soon. Nothing lasts forever." His optimism was not only a vote of confidence in us, it had a big impact on the way we approached business through the lockdown from that point on. Last week Hope St Space reopened and is currently 60 per cent busier than it was before the shutdown, proving Sandy right. And his fantastic new branding (if we do say so ourselves) is almost ready to be rolled out - perfect timing for Hope St Space to be discovered by the hordes of Melbournians emerging from lockdown. #fireside #firesideagency #communications See more

09.01.2022 If dry humour was an Olympic sport, writer/editor and Fireside collaborator James Shackell would definitely end up somewhere on the podium. "Worked as Assistant Editor at Smith Journal, a quarterly Australian print publication, until it closed down," he says in his LinkedIn profile. "I did not cause it to close down." This kind of self deprecation belies razor-sharp writing skills that we love to tap when we need to develop great written ...content for our clients. James is a master at writing perfectly to the required tone of voice and is just one of the great operators who could be helping you get your story out into the world if you decide to work with Fireside. As his LinkedIn profile indicates, James still has a foot in the journalism camp, with an editing stint at Smith Journal (until it folded) and more recent contributions to Frankie magazine. Pleasingly, he says unlike many other freelancers his workload during the pandemic hasn't really taken too much of a hit. "Business has been surprisingly okay so far (touch wood)," he says. "Editorial work has slowed as publications put on spending freezes, but I work with a few branding agencies too, and work seems to be booming there. I think businesses are using the down-time to tackle all those jobs they never got around to pre-COVID: branding, design work, web copy, tone of voice etc. Fingers crossed it keeps going." 08.01.2022 We've been taking some time to delve back into the archives during lockdown. One piece we were glad to come across was Ben's article on celebrated Italian chef Massimo Bottura for Broadsheet back in 2014. Bottura, doesn't just make food, he uses it to shift ideas about the broader good it can do. In his interview with Ben, Bottura spoke about creativity, dreaming big and the value of continual change. "I will never stop. I will never stand still, he said. My biggest nightma...re is that one day I wake up in the morning and I have stopped dreaming. The idea of not dreaming any more is a nightmare." 08.01.2022 Since launching in 2016, Nightingale Housing has won international plaudits for creating a housing model that’s inspiring much-needed change across the property sector. It has done this by creating people-focussed homes that are more affordable, sustainable and community oriented. Fireside worked with Nightingale to help it clearly articulate how the model works, and its value to the community and policymakers alike. If you're keen to hear more about how we helped Nightingale nail their essential story, check out this link: https://www.firesideagency.com.au/proje/nightingale-housing #fireside #firesideagency #communications

07.01.2022 In 2017 Melbourne-based DC Power Co became Australia’s first solar-focussed energy company, launched on the back of what was then the world’s most successful equity crowdfunding campaign. Since then this award-winning industry disruptor has been working to support many of the more than 2 million Australian households who have done the right thing by installing solar panels. DC Power Co's General Manager Liz Greenbank says: "Ben and his team came to DC Power Co when we needed... them most. In a small startup with limited time and resources, their ability to hit the ground running, learn quickly and deliver quality work was impressive. In the world of agencies, this suite of qualities is a precious commodity." If you need a hand with anything across the communications spectrum, we're here to help. Send us a message today to organise a chat. 07.01.2022 The cobbler’s children always have the worst shoes is an old adage that we think about a lot here at Fireside because we’re determined to ensure it doesn’t apply to us. So many people who are great at a thing forget to apply those skills to themselves. With that in mind, we recently sat down and poured our narrative out onto a blank page. The end result: our story of who we are, how we fit into the world and why people should engage with us. If you want to know what make...s Fireside tick, this is a great place to start. Check it out on Firescribe via the link below. #fireside #firesideagency #communications

06.01.2022 One of the best things about starting a business is being able to pick and choose who you work with. Because life's too short to work with dickheads against your will. We've always loved working with Celine Tan (@sleent) ever since she was introduced to us by fellow designer @mikepre. Celine specialises in brand work and is just a great practitioner who always puts everything into whatever job she's working on.... Like Mike, she's riding the bumps of COVID-19 with aplomb. "Business is almost as usual, thanks to existing client relationships, which I am so so grateful for," she says. "The types of projects I work on have shifted slightly; Usually I’ll have a couple of brand identities going on, but right now there’s more digital and campaign projects." "I’m learning to take breaks, especially when I start to feel overwhelmed with everything going on. (Preventing the 2-3pm lunch!)" Can't wait to work with you again Celine. #fireside #firesideagency #communications #thankyou See more

05.01.2022 One of our very favourite jobs so far has been helping the very talented and lovely folk at ClimateWorks bring a fantastic new program - the Australian Energy Transition Initiative - into the world. The ETI breaks new ground by bringing some of Australia's biggest industry emitters - including BHP, Woodside Energy and BlueScope - around the table to collaborate on decarbonising their operations and collectively work toward pathways to net zero emissions by 2050. Fireside was ...asked to step in and help manage a complex stakeholder environment that included participants and the Australian Renewable Energy Agency which part funded the project. The result was a highly successful launch. We can’t wait to see the ETI continue to grow and attract more industry participants. These kinds of initiatives are vital if we are to avert a climate emergency. 05.01.2022 While it's not a topline discussion during COVID-19, our mass consumption of animals has a deep, underlying presence in our current troubles; both their causes and effects. From the role factory farming plays in increasing the likelihood of pandemic outbreaks, to the panic buying of meat products as a fear response. So it's timely to consider how disconnected we are from the origins of the food we eat. Ben wrote a piece for Broadsheet, published six years ago, that profiles... self-sufficiency advocate Rohan Anderson and his push for a more honest approach to modern meat consumption. 02.01.2022 Sneak peek of our new animation. A true lockdown labour of love produced with the help of our design guardian angel @mikepre. We just love it.

02.01.2022 Over his career our founder Ben Hart's background in journalism has fuelled a growing conviction that organisational storytelling must move beyond the safety of traditional corporate messaging and instead be built on interesting, emotionally-connecting stories of purpose and impact. 02.01.2022 Even if you’ve never heard of Gertrude Contemporary, you’ve almost certainly seen the fruits of its labour. Gertrude is Melbourne’s oldest contemporary arts organisation, providing a space for emerging artists to develop their practice and in doing so, forming an essential early part of Australia’s artistic ecosystem, with the work of its alumni regularly appearing in leading galleries and other visual arts institutions across the nation and around the world. Initially, Ben w...as engaged by Gertrude to provide strategic advice around communicating its story to key audiences. Now, he's proud to be a member of Gertrude's board. See more about our engagement with Gertrude via the link below - and check out the rest of Fireside's brand new site while you're at it. We think it's pretty awesome (even if we do say so ourselves). #fireside #firesideagency #communications https://www.firesideagency.com.au/pro/gertrude-contemporary
