12.01.2022 Can you still attend FIRST AID COURSES? Yes. RTOs can continue to deliver in a face-to-face First Aid Training but are encouraged to practise social distancing. This may mean adjustments to the classroom to create more space between people and their desks/work stations.... RTOs should also consider increasing cleaning, particularly of classrooms, toilets, common areas, door handles and equipment. Any student who is unwell, or who is required to self-isolate, should not attend class and should be sent home. The Australian Government Department of Health has released resources for employers and others to help stop the spread of CV-19.

09.01.2022 ONLINE FIRST AID TRAINING NOW AVAILABLE NATIONALLY RECOGNISED In the current socially distanced environment, we understand that some people are unable to continue with the delivery of traditional group training. ... So, we developed a number of enhanced online learning programs for a number of our nationally recognised units. These online programs involve participants undertaking extensive online training and theory assessments prior to a short face-to-face assessment. The face-to-face assessments are currently capped at two participants, and run for between 15 and 30 minutes, depending on the course. This new delivery model is currently available for our key first aid programs (outlined below) and will be extended to cover other vital training programs in time. This new approach to training allows individuals to complete the online component of training at their own pace, followed by a quick practical assessment with a trainer. In this current environment, we are taking actions to minimise the risk and this new program ticks all the boxes. Most learning and training is done online Very quick face-to-face assessment with only one or two people present No more large groups in one training room for long sessions Nationally recognised training COURSES AVAILABLE AND ASSESSMENT DURATION HLTAID001 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation: Approx. 2 hours of online theory and theory assessment with a 15 minute face to face practical assessment with the trainer. HLTAID003 Provide First Aid: Approx. 5.5 hours of online theory and theory assessment with a 20 minute face to face practical assessment with the trainer. HLTAID004 Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting: Approx. 6.5 hours of online theory and theory assessment with a 30 minute face to face practical assessment with the trainer. If you have staff working from home who cannot commit to a date for the face to face assessment you can still get a link to undertake the online learning. As long as the face to face assessment is conducted within 6 months the participant will not need to repeat the work. We know that businesses will be exceptionally busy catching up when they return so this is a great option as the majority of the work can be completed during this quiet period. Please get in touch with us if you have any questions or would like to discuss your options

06.01.2022 If you are doing a First Aid course in Australia, for it to be a legitimate course, you need to practice the mouth to mouth CPR breaths. The Australian Resuscitation Council is very clear on this requirement: You will see at the top of page 2 of their guidelines:... At a minimum, mouth to mouth rescue breathing must be taught and assessed (in conjunction with the learning objectives outlined above), in any training program. If you are doing a first aid course and the trainer advices you do not need to do the breaths, then insist on doing them so your certificate is valid. In real life you have a choice to do the breaths, or if you are unwilling or unable, then to do compressions only. However in a course it is a requirement.

01.01.2022 First aid courses at the moment So do we have to ventilate the manikins?: No. This afternoon there was a meeting held by the Industry Reference Committee (IRC) in follow up to ARC recommendations. ... As a temporary measure only, the requirement to complete breaths will be removed for those individuals who do not want to do so during their assessment. This should be explained to candidates as reasonable adjustment in if willing and able you can complete the ventilations if you want. This is great feedback to be received. Just to reconfirm, this means that if a candidate is not willing to ventilate the manikins they can simulate and still receive the statement of attainment if they complete all other assessment requirements.
