23.01.2022 Severe sun burn can be very dangerous, especially for kids. Signs and symptoms include skin blistering, pain, swelling, headache, nausea, and fever. As we enter the second week of the school holidays here in Queensland remember to Slip, Slop, Slap.... oh, and have fun #sunsafety #slipslopslap #queensland #tropics #funinthesun #sunscreen #hat #sunprotection #paramedic

22.01.2022 Merry Christmas everyone. May you all get to spend time with those you love today. Stay safe and have fun! #merrychristmas

20.01.2022 The message is clear... knowing First Aid saves lives.

20.01.2022 The end of my working week! As the sun sets on a fabulous trip I need to express my gratitude to be able to work in such amazing locations Yeppoon last week, Noosa this week, the Whitsundays next week.... so lucky!!!!

19.01.2022 This is our parent RTO. Firstaid Advantage issue the Statements of Attainment for nationally recognised training that we deliver.

19.01.2022 I’m not just stuck in the classroom Landed in Canberra yesterday, on my way through to NSW to do some relief work. I’m working relatively close to the border between ACT and NSW this week; so during the day I got some time to review the ACT Ambulance ‘Clinical Practice Guidelines’ and have a look at how their vehicles are laid out; just in case we have to meet with them on-road to hand off a patient.

19.01.2022 First Aid training should be about learning a life skill that you can use to help loved ones in an Emergency. If you dread having to attend refresher training, then your instructor hasn’t tried hard enough to show you how simple and practical those skills can be. Or maybe, they don’t believe those skills are useful either. Find an instructor with experience and passion... it makes a difference.

18.01.2022 Are you ACTUALLY ready for your day? Someone asked me yesterday, why they don’t see me ‘getting puffed’ when demonstrating CPR during training. Answer: it’s something that I can be expected to do at any time as a Paramedic, so I build that skill into my workouts. Those who participate in our High Performance Health Practitioner program find that they will be challenged to think about what daily behaviours should be intentional, versus what they currently say, do and think on ‘automatic pilot’.

18.01.2022 Are you paying too much? Check out our festive season pricing! (Conditions apply, but we think they're reasonable)

18.01.2022 Early start, and big day. Conducted an independent audit on a Confined Space Rescue Plan first up this morning. Then delivered a public First Aid course during the day. Once that was finished I ran a private Low Voltage Rescue refresher late this afternoon for a company. TGIF

17.01.2022 Please watch my 2 minute video, and share with others :-) This post relates to the delivery of Nationally Recognised Courses I deliver in partnership with Firstaid Advantage RTO No.32273 As things continue to evolve with COVID-19, the Australian Resuscitation Council has recommended...... "that the teaching of routine first aid and resuscitation courses should be postponed until the current COVID-19 pandemic has abated". This impacts our local business activities quite significantly. So, to earn a living I need to adapt and overcome this particular challenge. Many people will continue to need to demonstrate that they are maintaining their CPR and First Aid skills, so I've come up with an interim solution.

17.01.2022 I keep saying it... and I’m not the only one. COVID-19 spreads from person to person via droplets of infected fluid. These are passed on via touch, direct hand to hand contact or from contaminated surfaces, or when someone standing close to an infected person breathes in droplets that have been coughed or sneezed into the air.

15.01.2022 Happy hump day everyone!!! Wednesday is here. Hope you all have an amazing day! Stay safe.

11.01.2022 Found this pic and had to share. Sadly, this is true for so many people. There is still too much stigma around Mental Health and Mental Illness (note that they are different things). Sometimes people don’t seek help for fear of being judged.... some people do seek help but still suffer in relative silence rather than reaching out to friends and family, again for fear of being judged. It’s 2019... people can openly identify as being whichever gender they choose, can openly have a relationship with whomever they want, are encouraged to speak out if they belong to a ‘minority group’..... people are even blocking traffic to save the environment.... and yet many people still see mental illness as taboo.

09.01.2022 No filter... but oh my, that sky! What amazing weather to run some outdoor training scenarios... and drink coffee (of course )

09.01.2022 Happy Friday everyone!!! It’s 5am. Workout is done, so now I’m back in the office and planning the week ahead. Business won’t run itself . Whatever you’re doing today, stay safe so you can enjoy your weekend!

08.01.2022 I am extremely passionate about Child Safety. Bear with me here.... I’ve worked hard to develop my expertise in Pre-Hospital Paediatric Mental Health Care in my capacity as a Registered Paramedic... I’m also a Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist, which allows me to provide therapeutic interventions for children suffering from Psychological Trauma as the result of Domestic and Family Violence, Sexual Assault, and other traumatic experiences. I’ve completed studies with The University of Melbourne in Psychological First Aid; and Skills for Psychological Recovery; and I’ve completed a ‘Certificate in Protecting Children’ with the Queensland Family and Child Commission I also hold a Diploma in Psychology; and a Certificate in Advanced Counselling Psychology. WHAT I DON’T HAVE is the ability to broadly prevent harm to children in the first place. All of all my skills are there to help children who are already suffering. This fundraiser is about helping raise awareness, and ultimately reduce the need for my services. Please help me stop the suffering, and keep children safe.

08.01.2022 Delivered training to the team at MCC OSHCare today. A lot of really productive conversation was generated during the training, and everyone had a lot of fun!

07.01.2022 Only one in ten people survive a cardiac arrest. We can beat that, and that's what World Restart a Heart Day is all about. Learn CPR... the life you save might be a family member.

06.01.2022 Shout out to Dr Richard Hogben and his team at Allure Laser & Skin Studio following our annual catch-up yesterday. Always so much fun This year, as I work through CPR refreshers, I’m making sure that clients are fully aware of the new ‘normal’ in relation to CPR guidelines and the additional management pathway that now exists for suspected COVID cases who require Resus.

06.01.2022 Friday funnies!!! Here’s hoping you make it through today unscathed, and enjoy an awesome weekend. Stay safe out there

05.01.2022 Are you locked down at home with kids? A number of us have got together to create an online platform to provide FREE exercise, nutrition and yoga content. Going live on Wednesday, but keep up to date here... @pandemicpeqld

05.01.2022 Following my video this morning, I have had a few comments from people saying that their First Aid provider is planning to run courses this week, and that I don’t know what I’m talking about.... Attached is the original post from the Australian Resus Council. If you want to attend training, and can find a provider, that’s entirely up to you. I’m not offended. It’s your health and well-being... not mine.... but please, don’t question my integrity or my intentions. I’m following the advice of our peak advisory body.

02.01.2022 So now the completely unnecessary panic around Coronavirus is seeing the stock market plummet, and people start clearing shelves of food in panic-buying. I say ‘unnecessary’ because when you look at the numbers.... Coronavirus is not worth the stress: Roughly 80,000 people are sick with Coronavirus at the moment. 77,000 of those people are in China. This means that if you are not from China then this should remove 96% of your worry. And then... even if you contract Coronav...irus... 81% of the Cases are MILD; 14% of the Cases are MODERATE; and, only 5% of the Cases are CRITICAL. This means that even if you do get the virus, you are most likely to recover from it. SARS (which was also a strain of Coronavirus) had a fatality rate of 10% while COVID-19 has a fatality rate of 2%! Even more significant is that, when looking at the ages of those who are dying of this virus, the death rate for the people UNDER 50 years of age is only 0.2%! NOW, Let’s take one of the worst days in relation to deaths from Coronavirus so far the 10th of February. On that day, 108 persons in CHINA died of Coronavirus. BUT, on the same day 26,283 people died of Cancer; 24,641 people died of Heart Disease; 4,300 people died of Diabetes; and on that day, Suicide, took more than 2,800 lives. Then, to add even more perspective, Mosquitoes kill an average 2,740 people every day, HUMANS kill 1,300 fellow humans every day, and Snakes kill 137 people every day. Snakes kill more people daily than Coronavirus does!!!! All of these stats came from the World Health Organisation and other sources from within Australia. I did also read (but can’t find the reference) that in Australia you are more likely to win lotto than catch Coronavirus. So wash your bloody hands before touching your face, and stop panicking.

01.01.2022 I use my SafeTALK trainIng often in my role. Despite having a number of formal qualifications as a Therapist and Counsellor; these basic skills are vital at the front end of any conversation where suicide is being contemplated. My business has a strong focus on early intervention strategies, referral and counselling support for those experiencing a deterioration of their Mental Wellbeing, particularly in the work setting. This is part of Occupational Health management. Paramedicine represents an expansion of the traditional notion of emergency medical services as simply an emergency response system, to encompass advanced pre-hospital care, in home care, health education, workplace wellness programs and health risk management strategies.
