25.01.2022 TIME FOR A THROW BACK TO 1900 ALLEGED THEFT BY A SWAGMAN. CAUGHT BY A WOMAN. Mrs. Grundy, wife- of the licensee of the Boundary hotel, Campbellfield. had a rather exciting experience with an alleged swagman thief on Tuesday afternoon. Two swagman called at the hotel on their way up country along the Sydney road and during Mrs. Grundy's absence, it is alleged, one of the men named McPherson, 22 years of age, stole a bottle of Irish whisky and the pair decamped. Mrs. Grundy mis...sed the bottle, and following the two men a little way along the road, accused McPherson of the theft.. He became abusive, whereupon she produced an old revolver and "held him up" till Sergeant Love and Constable Saunders of Coburg arrived, and, it is alleged, finding the bottle in McPherson's possession, arrested him. 15.01.2022 As the lockdowns have come back in place and our doors have been closed for a 2nd time. Let's all have a read of what happened here on the 14 Dec 1895 Police News. COBURG-TUESDAY. False Labelling. James Grundy, the licensee of the... Wheatsheaf hotel, was charged with wrongly applying a false trade mark to an inferior liquor, such liquor being ostensibly DeKuyper's gin. Mr. Smith of the Customs Department, prosecuted, and Inspector O'Connor conducted the case. Inspector O'Connor stated that on the 18th of september, he visited the hotel and inspected the liquors, the sample produced was an inferior spirit, and not either J.D.K.Z. gin or DeKuyper's Mrs. Grundy said that they had never had any other brand but De Kuyper gin, purchased from Mesars Hogan and Mooney, ever since they had been in business. James Grundy, licensee, said that they had never adulterated any gin, and there could have been nothing else but water put into the bottle to reduce it. The servant had no permission to serve in the bar, she has since died, her name was Kate Barber and she came from Richmond. Things will be a bit different for the first 3 weeks but its a start at least.. We have a smaller reopening menu to start for the first few weeks but from all the phone calls is all about having a Parma & a beer! Bookings are capped at a maximum of 6 and we are limited to 20 people... 10.01.2022 To all our valued customers, we sadly regret to inform you in light of the government's decision to lock down certain suburbs, we will be closed as of 3pm tomorrow Wednesday the 1st of July until further notice. We still have availability at our 11:30 seating for lunch if anyone wants to come for a fair well drink or meal. 02.01.2022 Good afternoon all, Thankyou for the overwhelming amount of phone calls, emails, FB & even instagram messages over the past few hours to make a booking with us again after the government's announcement today. We really love the support by our local community! Unfortunately we need to let all our locals know that sadly we ' on wednesday. We will reopen again when the restrictions on hospitality further ease, to welcome more guests (safely, of course) to bring ...to life the pub atmosphere you've been missing. Unfortunately the deferral of the restrictions easing means we can’t accommodate as many of you as we would like, but the good news is that we are still here Wednesday - Sunday for lunch and dinner AND you can now join us for a drink in the bistro between services, without the need to purchase a meal!
