25.01.2022 YELLOWFIN TUNA REPORT JUST IN Shane Babington and Andrew Kershaw (visiting from Cowra) landed a great YFT estimated between 45kg and 50kg this morning in 65 metres east of Tuross. They were trolling hard body lures looking for any surface activity. Just after the mid morning tide change YFT started busting up nearby. They were about to bring the trolling gear in to start casting stick baits when they hooked up. In all the excitement and rush to get another fish they didn’t take photos. The fish is currently en route to Cowra. Unfortunately weather forecasts this week are not favourable at this stage. However, fishing prospects are looking good for when the weather improves.

25.01.2022 If you’re heading to the far south coast for your Easter holiday, we highly recommend packing your surf fishing gear. The beaches since the flooding rains have been very very good with a larger than normal variety of fish on offer. Nice weather should also mean the fish stick around. Casting a variety of baits, as well as metal lures will almost certainly get you into the action. Target the high tides for your best chances.

25.01.2022 We’ve been working with Ian Osterloh from the DPI FAD program since May of this year to get a FAD deployed east of the top of the 12 Mile Reef. We offered up an initial GPS mark and the trawlers wanted it about a mile east of the there, so all good. A FAD has been approved. It’s hopefully going to happen before March next year. A further consultation regarding location with commercial operators is a final step in the process. Looking forward to seeing it out there! The only mark is the one we put up for discussion as a starting point, that’s still the mark but it will be further east.

21.01.2022 While walking Mooreheads beach in Bermi Jackson found what has now been confirmed by Dr Mark Meekan of the Institute of Marine Science (UWA) as a prehistoric shark tooth. He states that Jackson has found what is most likely a fossilised Megaladon tooth. The tooth is in such great condition as it is an uninterrupted tooth that would have been still intact within the shark at death. Likely at the rear of the mouth and still forming at the back of the jaw. So it’s millions of years old. What a special find. Thanks also to Tom Kapitany of the National Dinosaur Museum

20.01.2022 A nice Yellowfin Tuna caught by Kev to start his season off. Bigger and better will hopefully follow over the coming weeks. He was fishing solo at 36.14S 150.29E and 21.1 degrees water temp. The fish took a liking to the Profidgie Saurie run long.

This create...d world interest in Bermagui for Big Game Angling. This quote by Zane Grey was written unknowing of the future and what was to happen in 2020. Perhaps he was in Bermagui at the time of writing. Bermagui Museum has a huge collection of Zane Grey photos and also his western novels. The Museum has a copy of his book"The Lone Star Ranger" from which the series "The Lone Ranger" is said to have originated. See more

16.01.2022 It was a ‘no bait’ day for Kev at Montague Island this morning. Dropping a micro jig on likely sounder marks on the western side of Aughinish Reef proved successful. Good numbers of pan sized snapper were caught and released, although one better fish did end up having a swim in the slurry. A high percentage of the Kingfish Kev landed today were undersized with only 2 out of 12 being legal. It was a similar story from others we spoke too, however one customer did land a better King in the high 70’s.

15.01.2022 Went up to Montague Island this morning targeting snapper. It was slow going with only 8 caught and all were around 38cm. Three were caught in deeper water on the NE corner on micro jigs and five on floaters in The Rip on the western side. Unfortunately no luck with Kingfish today The current was roaring to the south and the water temperature was around 17 degrees. Clarity was not great but better than previous days we are told. All in all there are good signs for the coming weeks.

14.01.2022 A lovely 83cm flatty caught and released in wallaga lake this morning by Nick while holidaying back home. The lake is starting to fish quite well again after the recent rains with Nick getting a good feed of flattys also.

14.01.2022 Some very nice fat kingfish caught today by the handful of boats at Montague Island. Dave from Canberra caught our best king for the morning, measuring in at 84... cm, he narrowly beat the next best by 1cm. Today's better fish were taken on live bait around The Fowl House reef, squid also accounted for some rats and just legal kings. Reliable report of a few kings in the 90cm range today. Water temp 24.8c and a northerly current. See more

14.01.2022 It’s the first day of summer and Bermagui’s main game fishing season is fast approaching. Marlin and Mahi Mahi fishing should be in full swing in January although the odd early arrival could be welcomed later this month. This great action photo was the winner of our ‘HOTSHOT’ photo competition last season. It was taken by James Kemp last January of ‘YKNOT2’ hooked up. Looking forward to seeing this type of action very soon.

13.01.2022 Clear skies and a couple of RipCharts to checkout. A few Bluefin about, fish were busting up around 3622S and 15051E. Those doing the miles will hopefully see a few today.

13.01.2022 Fishing on the 6 and 4 mile was a little slower today although there was still plenty of good sized fish caught. The water clarity was not as good as previous days. Scott, Glenn, Dom and Ry (Full Strike) landed a few nice snapper, a couple of big Red Dory plus 9 big Gurnard on the jig. Kev (Thunderbird) kept 5 snapper over 50cm and released the remainder. All caught using 80gm Samaki Asalt jigs.

12.01.2022 A couple of boats headed out the front of Bermagui (36’26S) after lunch today. Daniel had 2 Marlin whilst his brother is also out and had caught 3 from 5 fish. The boys said there was alot of fish about, the water was ‘23.8 and the bait was plentiful. Nice work.

11.01.2022 Plenty of Kingfish first up this morning at Montague Island. However, the majority were undersized. Kev managed 4 legal fish with one at 72cm that was kept and 3 around 67cm which were released. All 15+ fish landed were caught on jig. There were definitely bigger Kings amongst the rats with another boat close by landing a fish that looked well over the magic metre.

11.01.2022 Kevin and a number of our customers were amongst the Kingfish at Montague Island this morning. Plenty of Kings were caught on the NE corner but unfortunately they were mostly undersized. Kev found a good school of legal Kings on the western side of the Island and managed 6 between 72cm and 82cm keeping only three. The fish were caught on jigs, live bait and squid heads plus a few off the surface. Strong current from the north against a brisk breeze from the south made conditions somewhat difficult to fish. Water was clear and around 21 degrees.

09.01.2022 The guys on Moose Knuckle continued their good run today with this great 131.7kg Mako caught on 15kg. Marcus and Thomas set a burley trail on the 12 Mile and after 3 hours had the shark circling the boat. They soon hooked up and after a few long powerful runs and acrobatic leaps it was boat side. As a matter of interest, during weigh-in a long liners stainless hook was also found that must have been bitten off a few months ago.

09.01.2022 There’s plenty of swim/glide bait options to use and we saw a few good fish landed around the place over the weekend. But how’s this bloke landing another two fish over 90cm last night (91 and 96) on the Molix 178 as a few watched on from nearby. Got it sorted, great fish again.

09.01.2022 The next couple of days look fishable inshore and offshore. Bluefin Tuna have moved south over the past couple of weeks though still at least 60km to our east. Tuna boats winching up this morning are getting some fish from 3630S to the north on the 15055E line. Then further out again today. So the Snapper fishing is looking an easier option.

06.01.2022 A few good snapper were caught this morning on the close reefs just south of Bermi. Peter landed several nice fish on the Lobster Patch east of Cuttage using a Samaki Asalt micro jig.

05.01.2022 It’s great to see good numbers of bigger size Kingfish being caught at Montague Island the past few days. Kev went up mid morning today after work and landed approximately 15 legal Kings all but 5 were released in good order. Three were around 95cm and 2 at 84cm. He was reefed by 5 more substantial fish which had to be over a metre when compared to the other fish caught. The Kings were happy to take jigs, live bait and squid. Later in the day the fish were on the surface smashing sauries.

04.01.2022 Immensely enjoyable few hours this morning fishing the 4 and 6 Mile before the strong southerly hit. While drifting and micro jigging for snapper a flock of working birds was getting closer and closer to the boat. After marking bigger fish a switch to the Kingfish gear was made. For the next hour over 20 Kings were caught but the majority were just under legal with only 3 legal fish at 68cm. There were definitely bigger fish in the school observed following hooked fish to th...e surface. Great fun all the same. After the birds and school of fish disappeared it was back looking for snapper. Ended up with three snapper at 45cm, 52cm and 55cm. It was great to find Kingfish in numbers out the front of Bermi, just hope the stick around for a while.

03.01.2022 Nice shot taken on ‘AMOKURA’ of their fish this morning. Plenty of bait again today from below the Kink up to 07’ where they are now. They have seen a couple of others caught too. Ben Buckley also reported its fishing well up at 35’52 as they are 4.2.2 thus far today. A few reported off Merimbula also. Great to see!

02.01.2022 Several boats are planning a trip wide over the weekend in search of Yellowfin Tuna. As an assistance this is the latest SST Ripcharts taken at 1pm Friday. At this stage the weather conditions look good for Saturday. Sunday is not as good but eminently fishable in the correct boat. Word has it that through the week there was surface and bird activity from the 1,000 fathom line out towards the southern seamount.

01.01.2022 Milla and Andy on Sarah Jane have had a cracking day out of Bermi today. The boys have landed some nice dolphin fish as well as a big striped marlin that couldn’t be revived. Most boats that bottom fished out of Bermi today have reported some awesome numbers of sand flathead out the front. Good to see the Marlin back on the bite today after a slow one yesterday. Montague island continues to play host to a plague of rat kings that are great fun on light gear, however Jasper did manage a nice one on a stickbait when the wind got up.

01.01.2022 Fishing the reefs east of Bermi has been very productive the past two days. Steven had a great arvo session yesterday then followed it up this morning with this nice snapper caught on the first drop on the jig. Other customers returned mid morning with their bag of 40cm+ flathead and several mowies and snapper. Its great to see that the filthy water that plagued us the past few weeks may have finally gone.

01.01.2022 Some nice sand flathead out the front today, as well as a few gummies in the last few days. The gummy fishing seems to stay pretty consistent anywhere either side of the full or new moon. Fishing off the front of wallaga lake and to the north toward tilba cemetery seems to be the best ground for the gummies at the moment. Some fairly average weather ahead of us again unfortunately.
