25.01.2022 #artbyalara is doing an amazing job.

24.01.2022 Our summer fishing is finished for another year. This morning Blake caught this little salmon at Narrawong while this afternoon we fished at Nelson. Keep an eye out next summer to see where you can join us.

22.01.2022 Have you seen or caught one of these? Turns out, you’re a bit lucky. At the end of last year, the SW Victorian Blackfish was listed as ‘Endangered’ on the Inter...national Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List of Threatened Species. The SW Victorian Blackfish (Gadopsis sp. nov. 'Western Victoria') is an endemic freshwater fish species, restricted to a small area in south-west Victorian coastal catchments in the Portland Coast and Hopkins River basins and has experienced a decline in abundance and distribution. The listing of the SW Victorian Blackfish come after an assessment of a future population decline and on its restricted range in coastal south-west Victoria. This species has undergone a population decline of 35% over the last 18 years (generation length is approximately six years) based on a decline in habitat quality and quantity due to drought, fire, habitat removal, water extraction and erosion and chemical input from agriculture, all of which may be exacerbated by climate change. The SW Victorian Blackfish has also been traditionally an angling species. The largest and most secure populations of this fish remain in the Darlot Creek system, however, it was once abundant in the Hopkins River near Warrnambool, and the Mount Emu Creek and Brucknell Creek systems. It is also likely it thrived elsewhere in the Hopkins River basin, such as the lower Mustons Creek. 15.01.2022 Got a great idea for a project that would make recreational fishing even better in Victoria? Then why not apply for funding from the 2019-20 round of the Recrea...tional Fishing Grants Program, which is open for project proposals until 29 February 2020? The grants program re-invests revenue from the sale of recreational fishing licences into worthwhile projects that benefit everyone who enjoys wetting a line. So whether it's better facilities like platforms, jetties, floating pontoons and fish cleaning tables or angler access, fisheries research, education or fish habitat, now’s the time to get busy submitting a project application! 11.01.2022 Our mural has turned out so well. Thank you #artbyalara

11.01.2022 Was a busy night last night. Teamed up with Natasha from the Victorian Fisheries Authority to spread the word about sustainable fishing with Warrnambool Tooram Joey Scouts. Then out to Brother Fox at Deakin University to join the Merri River Alliance in celebrating a win in outstanding waterway management.

08.01.2022 This amazing art work is available now. Put your bid in today.

08.01.2022 Microplastics are small pieces of plastic less than five millimetres in length. They are usually broken up from larger pieces of plastic, and continue to break ...up into pieces so small they are not visible to the human eye. Plastic is now found right through the ocean food chain, to the point that corals and even plankton are ingesting plastic. Millions of marine animals are killed from starvation after ingesting plastic. Microplastics have the potential to travel through the food chain into food, water, soils and even the air we breathe. #blueholemural Warrnambool City Council Regional Arts Victoria

04.01.2022 I’ve been working on some finishing touches to the mural in the hopes that people will stop and think about where some of their waste ends up. Having worked at... a supermarket check-out for most of my adult life and seeing how many plastic bags are used without a second thought, they are a huge peeve of mine. Every second, 160,000 plastic bags are used around the world. That’s every single second. All together, it adds up to over a TRILLION plastic bags being used every year. A plastic bag is used for an average of 12 minutes, but can stay in the environment for up to 1000 years. According to the Center for Marine Conservation, plastic bags are among the 12 most found items of debris at coastal clean-ups. I’m a very forgetful person, so I keep my reusable bags near the front door or in my car to avoid forgetting to take them. If I do forget them (which happens more than I’d like to admit) I take my groceries out in the trolley or basket and then return it to the store. A few very simple changes to your shopping habits can save the lives of countless marine animals. #blueholemural Warrnambool City Council Regional Arts Victoria
