25.01.2022 This is the Faradaya splendida or October Glory and has just started flowering in our garden. The Faradaya splendida is a vigorous woody climber with large glossy bright green leaves. White tubular flowers with a Carnation like perfume are produced in clusters from late Spring. It will grow best in lightly shaded moist positions. It has been grown in small numbers in Rockhampton for many years, and is well worth a position in a home garden.

25.01.2022 Over the last 40 years Fisher’s Nursery supplied plants to many towns across Queensland. Theodore is a beautiful township 220km southwest of Rockhampton. Over the years we have supplied many trees and shrubs to the town’s gardeners and given numerous garden talks. Theodore’s community owned Hotel and Holmes Enterprises, (one of the best Country Outfitters in Central Queensland), are two must visit places to visit.

25.01.2022 The Capricorn Region Bonsai Society’s Bonsai Exhibition highlighted the skills of their members. Thanks to Chris Hewitt president of the Capricorn Region Bonsai Society for showing me around today.

25.01.2022 The Graptophyllum ilicifolium or Holly Fuchsia would have to have the best Christmas foliage for CQ. This 2 to 3m high shrub is a shade-loving plant, but it will grow in full sun and is also intolerant of frosts. At the end of spring beautiful deep pink tubular flowers engross the entire shrub. The flowering season is short, but very showy.

17.01.2022 Lot’s of wind but very rain this afternoon. I hope our western friends are receiving more rain than us.

15.01.2022 The Nauclea orientalis or Leichhardt tree has quite showy flowers resemble yellow pom-poms. These flowers can be found on the trees along the Fitzroy River in Victoria Pde. This tree’s history is very important to the early Rockhampton architecture due to its timber being used in the foundations of many of the riverbank buildings.

12.01.2022 This is the first hybrid developed by Fishers Nursery the Callistemon Rocky Rambler. It is a groundcover hybrid form of the Blackdown Tablelands Bottlebrush. With striking red brush flowers and golden tips in spring, this plant will always stand out as one of the most attractive new season colour plants in a dry garden. This is one of the hardiest of the bottlebrushes for local gardens.

11.01.2022 Petrea volubilis or Purple Wreath in full bloom at the Rockhampton Botanic Gardens.

10.01.2022 A little more rain would have nice.

07.01.2022 On this day in 1975 Fishers Nursery became the first Australian Plant Nursery in Central Queensland.

05.01.2022 Flowering at the Remembrance Day commemoration at the John Leak Memorial today was the Bajool Rose or Barklya syringifolia. Flower sprigs of the Bajool Rose were given to the local troops on the first Troop Train south from Rockhampton.

03.01.2022 Over the last 40 years Fisher’s Nursery supplied plants many towns across Queensland. Each week I will feature a town that our nursery played a role in the greenscaping of that community. To start with I have 4 old pictures of 4 towns that Fishers Nursery supplied plants to. Can you name all 4 towns?

02.01.2022 Residents and visitors are warned to stay clear of the water at Reg Tanna Park (duck ponds) on Glenlyon Road in Gladstone until further notice due to an outbrea...k of blue-green algae. Temporary signs have been installed to advise people of the situation. The parklands surrounding the ponds remain open. http://bit.ly/1H1b0pq See more
