05.01.2022 SPOT ON FISHING AND OUTDOORS PORT LINCOLN WEST COAST FISHING REPORT 28 JANUARY 2021 It seems like it is either very windy, or there it’s a dodge tide. The fish...ing has been tough, but there are some good catches for those putting in some effort. Here’s what was biting and where. West Coast Still seems to be plenty of schools of Salmon to 4Kg along most beaches. If you can’t find a school, locate a rip or a gutter and put a whole brined pilchard out and you should get a few Salmon. Gummy sharks are still an option from the beaches, especially at night time with the better tides. Venus & Streaky Bays have been producing lots of undersized King George Whiting, but there are plenty of Garfish, Trevally, Salmon Trout and Tommy’s to make up for it. Coffin Bay King George Whiting inside the bay have been mostly undersized. Some anglers have reported only about 1 in 10 are size. Please make sure that you release the undersized fish with as little handling as possible to ensure their survival. There are some good numbers of squid and small kingfish around the town jetties keeping plenty of kids happy. In the rest of the bay there have been some good catches of Garfish, Salmon Trout, Tommy’s and Silver Trevally. Farm Beach continues its good run for fishing. King George Whiting, Garfish, Squid, Tommy’s are just a few of the species that are in good numbers being caught in the area. Offshore has seen the Tuna as elusive as ever. In one area one day, then not to be seen the next. The only consistent spot seems to be out between Rocky and Greenly Islands, but even going that far is no guarantee. To make up for it, there have been some big Samson fish, plenty of Nannygai and a few medium sized Kingfish caught. One lucky angler on a charter even caught a Striped or Tassie Trumpeter. Port Lincoln Kingfish and Squid have been the main targets from the town jetty and wharf area. There are also plenty of Snook, Tommy’s and a few King George Whiting to be caught in the area. If you want to catch a fish, head down to the wharf and drop a bait next to the pylons. There are plenty of Sweep, Zebra Fish and Tommy’s as well. King George Whiting have been caught around Taylors, Thistle Island, Boston Bay and Proper Bay. There are still plenty of undersized fish being caught, but there are also some very large fish being caught. Around town and in the Proper, there are also plenty of Squid, Snook, Tommy’s, Salmon and some Arrow Squid. Blue Swimmer Crabs continue to improve as the water warms up and the tide changes increase. Looks for the warmer water is my best tip. Tumby Bay King George Whiting, Squid, Tommy’s, Trevally and Salmon Trout have been the main catches around town and out at the Group. From the town jetty and in the Marina, there have also been plenty of small kingfish caught over the last couple of weeks. Port Neill/Arno Bay King George Whiting, Squid, Snook, Garfish and Tommy’s have been caught land based and by boaties when the wind has dropped off. Cowell Blue Swimmer Crabs have been caught in good numbers. Make sure you measure them before putting them on ice, as there are lots of just under crabs in the harbour.
