Our target species include, Coral trout, Spanish mackerel, Spangled emperor, Large mouth nannies, Cod, the list goes on! 18.01.2022 Hi guys, since there is no more newspaper for the cape and therefore no more fishing report in the paper I will be doing one each Friday. As most of you know ...by now with the COVID 19 restrictions in place the general public can only fish under certain guidelines. One of which is for food gathering purposes only. For full guidelines go to the QLD.gov website. With the weather looking great for the weekend with the winds down (finally) it will be a good chance to go out and put some fish in the freezer. With the noticeable cooler change we have had lately and the choppy conditions the mackies should be chewing very well and not only do they taste nice but provide a great return on fillets. My fav recipe for mackies is turning the flesh into Nummis which includes no cooking of the fish but soaking it in lime juice, chili, ginger, garlic and onion for most of the ingredients. With some good movement in the tides with high tides early morning and late afternoon and not too bad on the almanac it should fish pretty good this weekend especially with the pressure taken off it over the last few weeks of little fishing. With the good tides if you want a feed of crabs setting them overnight will produce good results through the turn of the tide. Tip of the week: PLEASE all fisho's and anglers abide by the governments social regulations regarding fishing and COVID 19 as it is a privilege that can suddenly be taken away from us quickly if people do the wrong thing. Southern states already have a ban and hopefully if we do the right thing we don't get one too! Hope you catch plenty and ill CATCH you next Friday! See more

13.01.2022 Tim and Jason jumped onboard our charter vessel Gadget and went fishing for a couple of days over the weekend, the weather was in our favor so we pushed out to one of the local reefs! The boys landed some pretty serious large mouth Nannygai! We also hooked them into some nice coral trout, chinaman fish, mackerel, slateys, gold spot cod, trevally, sharks, even sighted a marlin!!

10.01.2022 FISHING REPORT Hi guys, another Friday fishing report. What a great weekend we had last week with heaps of angler going out to catch a feed and great reports... of people catching and doing the right thing. PLEASE all fisho's and anglers abide by the governments social regulations regarding fishing and COVID 19 for this weekend as well and into the future until its over as it is a privilege that can suddenly be taken away from us quickly if people do the wrong thing. For full guidelines go to the QLD.gov website. With the weather looking great for the weekend with the winds down it will be another good chance to go out and put some fish in the freezer. The tides are reverse to last week with lows at sunrise and sunset and the high in the middle of the day. These tides are my favorite for fishing the reef flats on the high and runout after lunch. I love to go throw lures on the reef flats and lagoons after a morning session catching a feed bottom fishing and when they stop biting go catch them with lures on the shallow reef. This technique provides constant action "even if it is just flicking a lure watching the amazing reef drift by" when it goes quiet and relieves boredom and changes things up a bit. The usual close proximity of a sand cay while flicking provides a nice lunch break too! I did see plenty of trout and nanny pics on facebook last weekend for those who got out for a fish which was great to see and even during the week also plenty of jacks and barra being caught. Congratulations on Jacob for catching his first Cooktown barra on a vibe The Lure Shop staff recommend him. Also a great session by Mady and her son with plenty of barra caught while Gundolbii was off hunting. Tip of the week: With a low tide of 1.21m at 6:26am high tide of 2.09m at 11:00am and low tide of 0.83 at 5:18pm there is not much run and will be easier fishing the shelf and deep drop offs without using 1/2 ton of lead and or drifting too quickly in deep water. It is also good tides for drifting over wonky holes for those without a spot-lock electric motor. Hope you catch plenty and ill CATCH you next Friday! See more

05.01.2022 Attention all fishers! The Total Allowable Commercial Catch for black jewfish on the East Coast has been reached and black jewfish are now a no-take species fo...r all fishers. This means fishing for this species is now closed to commercial and recreational fishing until 1 January 2021. Penalties apply. The fishery remains open in the Gulf of Carpentaria where recreational fishers are reminded that black jewfish has a possession limit is 1 per person and maximum boat limit of 2 per vessel.
