02.01.2022 So some of you might have noticed that Ive been a little bit quite lately, the truth is that ever since lockdowns eased Ive been crazy busy both fishing and w...orking on a little project. At the end of last year I purchased a new bigger boat in South Australia and after a a quick stop in Brisbane for Dave from Riptide boats to add a little Riptide magic to it with some custom touches to the ally works that help turn it into a complete fishing machine. Queensland Boat Transport delivered it to Rainbow Beach with a minimum of fuss and not a single mark on it despite thousands of kilometres on the road from South Australia and multiple crane/frenna lifts on and off the truck, so lucky to have found a true professional to transport it. Now the plan was always to completely refit it in the second half of March and during April and everyone knows what happened then. So fast forward and after months of looking at it sitting in the driveway not only has Pete McGregor from Bonza Graphics helped to totally transform the boat with one of his amazing wraps but Peter Muller from SunCoast Marine Electrical and his offsider Ash have done their second major boat refit for me in the last couple of years with a complete rewire, all new battery switching and circuit breaker panels, Hella lighting, an amazing JL audio sound system, mobile phone booster, satellite phone and AIS, plumbed live bait well and deck wash, plenty of other little touches and the full Simrad treatment with a pair of 12 Simrad screens all integrated to Simrad autopilot, Simrad Radar and AIS through Simrad radios. Shane from Aquatech engineering got me out of a little pickle and a massive thanks to the crew at Wilsons Fishing for all your help putting together the fishing side of things and also a whole lot of people Im lucky to count as friends who I wont name individually who have all helped this become a reality. So to the details, built by Southern Boat Builders its a lot bigger than the Riptide (that boat would fit onto the back deck) being 9.6m (30 foot) in length and a massive 3.35m wide thats wide enough to fish 4/5 people comfortably across the back let alone up the sides of the boat!! Its powered by a big V6 330hp Volvo stern drive and has a cruise speed of 20+ knots in pretty much any conditions Ill be fishing in and is in full 2C/3C Survey for 12 passengers and 2 crew. As well as normal day type charters it opens the door to some awesome adventure style trips (anyone want to go fish a lap around Fraser Island???). So into the future the smaller Riptide isnt going anywhere but in the short term Ill only be taking bookings for the new boat of up to 10 people with 6-8 being the perfect number for comfort and fishing on weekend dates and through the week on demand with the Riptide only being available for boat bookings midweek. Again a huge thank you to all the people who have helped me turn this weapon of a boat into a truly awesome fishing machine. See more
