16.01.2022 Our FHS committee is keeping busy during the Melbourne lock-down. Planning is underway for some podcast walks and on how to become a Citizen Historian. We recently had a successful online Zoom workshop showing you where to start research on your house. More of these sessions will be held in the foreseeable future, either online or face to face. Questions such as how old is your house, who built it, who lived there and what were their occupations, can all be researched and m...any answers found. The Society does have one request though. We would love to have someone take over with the editing of our Newsletters. We produce about 5 editions each year and it is a matter of collating the material; much of this is provided by our regular contributors. Here is an opportunity for someone out there with a few hours to spare each month or so. It may even interest someone at a senior school level who wants to build their skills and experience for their resume. We would love to hear from you and can be contacted at [email protected] Until next time, take care

04.01.2022 Oops, wrong attachment to earlier post on the click and collect libraries. I should have used this link instead. My apologies. https://library.yarracity.vic.gov.au/

03.01.2022 Father's Day. Even though we are hamstrung with Stage 4 lock-down, the sun is streaming in on this warm Spring day. I hope you are able to find enjoyment in the simple things on offer. Last Tuesday we held our first ever online FHS Annual General Meeting via Zoom. We had almost 30 attendees which was a great result. After the formal meeting, we were engaged with a talk by Dr. Piper Rodd who spoke about the Arthurton Gardens estate in Fitzroy and a push for its heritage statu...s. All in all, a great night. Two days later we had another Zoom meeting, this time to discuss the "How To" on researching your house or its occupants. We were treated to a live demonstration on the power of the internet and the resources available at our fingertips. If you missed the session, don't despair as all the resources discussed are available, free of charge, on the FHS website. A big thanks to Meg Lee, Lina Favrin and Mike Moore for organising the presentation, with lots of questions and interaction from the audience. Take care.
