25.01.2022 Our team have been busy updating our Water Sampling and Monitoring Guide to make it easier for keen citizen scientists, community and school groups to monitor the health of their local waterways. The new guide has updated steps, information and great new local fish ID pages courtesy of the I believe in a sustainable CQ team, making it easier to sample and upload your results to our MyWater portal. Get in touch to secure your free copy, or book in a session with our Science Officer who can demonstrate how to sample a local waterway safely. 22.01.2022 Christmas is almost upon us, so we would like to take this opportunity to wish our valued partners and friends a safe and happy festive season. At Fitzroy Partnership for River Health we know that healthy waterways are critical for human use, for industry and for agriculture, but also for recreational use. We hope the holiday season gives many families the opportunity to rest and recuperate and possibly get out on the water for some fishing and relaxation. Who knows, you may even spot Mindi the Barramundi while you're out there, but remember to leave her alone during the closed barra spawning season! Please note: our office will be closed from Friday 18 December 2020 and will reopen on Monday 4 January 2021.

22.01.2022 Fitzroy Partnership wishes our valued partners, stakeholders and friends a safe and happy Easter. We hope the Easter weekend brings rest and relaxation, despite it looking a little different to what many had expected. Please stay safe everyone, and if you can't socially distance, be like Mindi's mate here, and wear a mask - it's the law!

19.01.2022 We thank the Rockhampton Photography Club and their talented members for supporting our recent photo competition, seeking quality waterway images to be featured on the 2019-20 Fitzroy Basin Report Card due to be released in August 2021. With a significant number of beautiful photos it was certainly a hard task to select winners, however the images chosen were awarded for their fit for use on our Report Card and other promotional products. Congratulations to Mark Collins an...d Anthony Hall for their images of local waterways, which were chosen by staff and our partnership group for first, second and third prize. These gentlemen will soon receive vouchers to support their ongoing photography pursuits. We've included a selection of entries here to showcase the talent of members and the absolute beauty of the Fitzroy Basin region! First prize: Yeppen Lagoon by Mark Collins Second prize: Fitzroy Reflections by Anthony Hall Third prize: Fitzroy River Pink Lily by Mark Collins.

Braden will work to reinvigorate our community engagement and citizen science activities this year, as well as support the data analysis and reporting for our tenth waterway health report card, the 2019-20 Report Card, due to be released mid-year. 12.01.2022 Our Executive Officer Leigh Stitz and Independent Science Panel Coordinator Cassie Jones recently presented at the Central Queensland Mining Rehabilitation Group (CQMRG) meeting at CQUniversity, giving an update about our existing projects, how our governance works, our future directions and how our annual waterway health report card grades are calculated. CQMRG was established 20 years ago to support Environmental Officers in the region and after this meeting, attendees lef...t with a better understanding of how their data might be used to inform our Report Cards. Fitzroy Partnership regularly presents at community events, workshops and conferences. If you work in the environmental science, citizen science or education space and there is an opportunity for Fitzroy Partnership to give an overview of our work in the region, we'd love to hear from you. 11.01.2022 Fitzroy Partnership is now calling for applications for its $2,000 HeART of the Basin Scholarship. Open to CQUniversity Australia research students studying Honours, Masters by Research or a PhD in 2021, the scholarship will support expenses to progress the student's learnings in a research topic relating to waterway health. Executive Officer Leigh Stitz said the Scholarship was important to advance understanding of waterway health topics in the Fitzroy Basin. "Previously fu...nded scholarship research has included the development of a toolbox for fish health assessment, off-stream stock watering research to protect streambanks and improve water quality and the most recent project, studying the quantity of microplastics in water in the Rockhampton and Livingstone water supplies," Dr Stitz said. "We commend all of our students for their contribution to waterway health research, including Evan Chua, Julie-Ann Malan and Tiffany Brown who has just completed her PhD on microplastics in late 2020." (Tiffany is pictured with Leigh Stitz and Fitzroy Partnership Chair Dan Yates after presenting her research at a recent Partnership meeting.)
