20.01.2022 Yesterday Zed Seselja announced the Federal Government will fund 3 new mobile base stations around Canberra - one in Corin Forest, one at Tidbinbilla and one at Top Naas. This is great news for Canberra riders who often train for Fitz's in these areas. It will also help Pedal Power to continue to ensure Fitz's Challenge is a safe event for all entrants.

18.01.2022 Terribly sad news from Townsville today. Five cyclists have been critically injured in a hit a run accident this morning. Our thoughts are with cyclists and their families. The driver of the car remains at large. Hopefully, the Police will be able to apprehend them and prosecute them for this horrendous crime very quickly.

With growing uncertainly around new COVID-19 outbreaks, the potential for increased restrictions, and overall concerns for the safety of our riders and volunteers; the Pedal Power Board have regretfully concluded that the event is untenable this year. The Fitz’s Challenge is Australia’s toughest hill climbing event. Over the last 31 years, tens of thousands of riders have co...me to test themselves in Canberra’s beautiful Brindabellas. For many, Fitz’s Challenge has become the essential motivation to kick off our post-winter training. Panting across Fitz’s finish line is a highpoint of every cycling year. For Pedal Power’s organisers and many volunteers, Fitz’s is an opportunity to connect and support Canberra’s cycling community, and to give back to the sport we love. We are also gutted. IF YOU ARE WALKING + be aware of your surroundings + expect that there will be bikes passing you... IF YOU ARE RIDING + expect slower travel times on busy paths, ether reconsider your route or leave a little earlier and slow down on congested paths +signal you are going to overtake pedestrians and other riders by ringing your bell +look behind you before moving onto the right of the path to overtake slower traffic Showing consideration to all path users is the key
