25.01.2022 A special thanks to the Ballarat Residents & Ratepayers Association for holding the recent Standing for Council sessions.A BIG thanks to John Barnes for putting it all together. Conducted over four saturday mornings we listened to Former Mayors, CEOs Councillors & the Editor of the Courier. The knowledge & experience that these people shared with candidates cannot be underestimated. It is unfortunate that some candudates did not attend or attended only one or two sessions. An...d only one councillor guess who (S M) Those who attended all the sessions from the Central Ward are as follows Councillor Sam McIntosh Candidates Gary Fitzgerald Ron Egeberg Perhaps these three should be the Councillors to represent the Central Ward? Authorised by G Fitzgerald 19 Rodier St Ballarat East 3350 (Just in case)

24.01.2022 At yesterdays Ballot draw for the City of Ballarat the only current Councillors to attend were Samantha McIntosh & Jim Rinaldi. All other candidates attended. If they carnt turn up to find out there position on the ballot, are they interested in standing?Lets make sure we have a new Council that cares.

24.01.2022 Hi its seems that Council do not value the the role of volunteers for all the services they provide to the City. There are about 45 vols at the Visitor Information Centre who are not provided car parking for there four hour shift. Some have even been booked as there is no where close to the centre to park. All we ask for is a permit to park during our shift. This seems too difficult for even the Mayor to act & make a decision. Perhaps some sort of industrial action is required.

24.01.2022 AS A CANDIDATE FOR THE CENTRAL WARD CITY OF BALLARAT I PROVIDE MY STATEMENT FOR YOUR INFORMATION. I am seeking your support to become an active and strong Councillor for you in the Central Ward. I am currently a long serving volunteer at the Visitor Information Center and previously as a volunteer in Aged Care. I am a serving Justice of the Peace and am in training as a volunteer Youth Referral Independent Person assisting young people in the court system. Over the past fifte...en years I have attended the majority of Council Meetings. I have spoken and advocated for my community on many issues at Council Question Time such as lack of consultation, poor decision making and waste. The indecision's over the Civic Hall, excessive councilor travel and governance fiasco where Councilors faced suspension are all evidence of the need for change at Council. We have a new CEO,now we need a new Council. Over the years i have gained knowledge of how Council works and how it should work. I have a strong belief in the role of Question Time and if elected would hold regular Council Consultation Forums in the wards and neighborhoods of Ballarat. My first task if elected will be to open up Councils processes and to listen to the community. Gary Fitzgerald Candidate for Central Ward. ( Authorized by Gary Fitzgerald 19 Rodier St Ballarat 3350)

Gary Fitzgerald Candidate Central Ward

18.01.2022 This morning (27/8) saw the second session by Ballarat Residents & Ratepayers Association. It was great to hear three former Mayors and one Former Councillor offer there expertise on running for Council. Also the only Councillor there was off course Samantha McIntosh. If you as a candidate were not there you missed out of obtaining advice that you cannot find elsewhere,

18.01.2022 Our new CEO comes with a good reputation. We all need to support her to help clean up shop! So a new CEO needs a new Council full of new ideas & with a fresh approach to get back on track.

15.01.2022 Thanks to everyone for your birthday greetings

14.01.2022 CITY CIRCLE BUS ENDS AT THE WEEKEND The little red bus ends this Sunday(31st July) It was to be for a six month trial & then assessed as to its future. It has been well used considering the cold time of the year.It cost us ratepayers $150K & the state government $50K. We need this service to be extended to include our major attractions to the service, with the cost being subsidised by them not just ratepayers. Will the assessment be open to us ratepayers? I suppose not.We Need More consultation sought from residents which includes those that rent & pay a share of rates.

13.01.2022 Driving around the City lately it seems to me that some potholes are being fixed!! wonderful what an election can achieve!!

13.01.2022 OMBUDSMAN COMING TO BALLARAT. Due to a high number of complaints to the Vict Ombudsman re Local Government (& others) across the state the Ombudsman will be in Ballarat to take complaints from Residents. This will be an opportunity to talk to an independent review. Its unfortunate that it is limited to three hours at the Town Hall on August 16th.I urge Residents to register & to have their say. Hopefully we can have the time available extended. You can contact the Ombudsman by calling 1800 806 314 or through [email protected]

13.01.2022 At last night's Council meeting there was heated debate about spending $1million on a water slide at the gillies St pool! Would it not be a better spend on making Elvis, the fire fighting helicopter now based at Moorabbin Airport, to be based at Ballarat Airport & able to be deployed to the western regions of the State? The Council agreed to write to the Minister concerned.Or just think how many potholes could be fixed for $1million!!??

09.01.2022 Last week several candidates for the Ballarat City Council elections attended a getting to know you session. You dont have to guess who was the only Councillor to attend.(SM) We discussed how important it will be for those elected to work together as a team. Some belong to the liberal Party some to the ALP & some to to the Greens. When it came to me i belong to the ALP. I further stated that as a prospective Councillor my fist duty will be to serve the people of Ballarat & that the only party i will follow is the BALLARAT PARTY.There are no fees everyone can join infact you are already a member just for reading this item. There is only one rule to be in the BALLARAT PARTY & that is to put Ballarat First.

07.01.2022 Hi everyone Just made a submission to the Ombudsman on the non acceptance by Council of the Heritage Officer's Report stating that no part of the Civic Hall is to be demolished. Also the delay on getting the report from FOI. It seems that until we get a new Council we will keep getting the same mismanagement from the Council Administration. Our new CEO has a big job on her hands & needs a newly elected Council to undo years of mismanagement.I believe that there are only two existing Councillors that through their performance deserve to be re elected & they are Sam McIntosh & Jim Rinaldi.Perhaps Mayor & Dep Mayor to lead a new team to better SERVE the people of Ballarat.

07.01.2022 What a great day at the 60th Birthday of the Civic Hall( even if he Mayor said the library was going to join up with the Lower Hall)He will have another fight on his hands.Perhaps we should ask him at Question Time at the Council meeting on Wednesday night 24th August at &.7.00pm. He will most probably take the Question on notice.

07.01.2022 This morning saw the third informative session presented by BRRA, The attendance was up on the first two sessions proving the worth of the process to make sure that candidates have a basic picture of the role. Thanks to the organisers & i look forward to the final session.

05.01.2022 Just letting all candidates know that the Candidates Questioner that we all filed out will only be available on the VEC website.they told me it was only done as a trial & that it was never intended to be included in the ballot papers. As if voters will know to look on the website.I believe that it should have been included in the packs. What do you think?

05.01.2022 Hi everyone I have just learnt that when the permits are ready for the Miners Rest Saleyards they will not be heard in the Council Chamber but passed by a not very Senior planning officer. Once again the people of Miners Rest & the rest of Ballarat are being denied the right to have a say.As i have said & will continue to say"we need change on 22nd October.

03.01.2022 Some of you in Ballarat may remember Matt Mattson and his yellow disability scooter coming & going all over Ballarat & listing areas of concern to disabled people, then bringing them to Council Meetings. Sadly Matt passed away about three years ago.Should we all be making sure that difficulties for the disabled are bought to Councils attention? It has been a long time since any concerns have been heard at Meetings. Lets see what we can do to help.

02.01.2022 CAN COUNCIL GOVERN THE CITY WHEN THEY CAN'T GOVERN THEMSELVES At the council meeting on the 1st May the new Councillor Code of Conduct was passed with great enthusiasm by our City Leaders. It was known then that the Code needed to be signed by each each Cnr in the presence of the CEO. So why was it not signed on the night? If this was an administrative blunder then the CEO should be kicking the butts of those concerned. It's obvious that the admin of the council needs a review.
