24.01.2022 Bushfire Smoke Health Advice - Current bushfire conditions have resulted in very poor air quality. Queensland Health recommends that affected communities take the following actions. Protecting your health The community is advised to remain indoors and close all windows and doors and operate air-conditioners if available. All air conditioners should be switched to ‘recycle’ or ‘recirculate’ mode.... If you do not have an air conditioner, take steps to reduce heat stress, especially for the very young, people who are unwell, or the elderly. People with pre-existing lung or heart conditions should rest as much as possible and keep away from the smoke. People with asthma should follow their personal asthma plan. Anyone with a heart or lung condition should follow the treatment plan advised by their doctor and keep at least five days’ supply of medication on hand. Avoid physical activity outdoors this includes outdoor workplace activities (exertion allows more fine particles to be breathed deeper into the lungs). Schools and childcare centres should cease outdoor activities and children should stay indoors in areas with air-conditioning and/or ceiling fans. It is recommended that organisers of outdoor events should consider postponing the event until air quality improves. Assist your vulnerable family members, neighbours and friends. It is important to identify locations that have cleaner, filtered air-conditioned spaces (e.g. shopping centres, community centres, libraries etc). If there is a break in smoky conditions, take the opportunity to air out your home to improve indoor air quality. When indoors, minimise other sources of air pollution, such as cigarette smoke, burning candles, using unflued gas appliances including gas stoves, or stirring up fine dust from sweeping or vacuuming. It is important to also stay hydrated by drinking water. Stay up to date with local news reports. 22.01.2022 PUMP IMPORTER PROSECUTED FOR TOWNSVILLE ELECTROCUTION DEATH Two years after a woman was electrocuted by a submersible pump installed in the backyard well of a Townsville home, the importer and online seller of the pump has been fined $1.2 million for failing to meet his obligations under electrical safety laws. Zoran Kacavenda, sole director of online business the Pump Factory Pty Ltd pleaded guilty as an individual and as a business to breaches of the Electrical Safety Act 2...002 which caused the woman’s death. The Townsville Magistrates court heard that in March 2016 the Pump Factory purchased hundreds of submersible water pumps from a Chinese manufacturer before selling them online into Australia under its own name and as Kasa Pumps and Kasa Factory. The court heard that Kacavenda and the Pump Factory failed to ensure the devices were electrically safe and met the relevant Australian Standard before doing so. This ruling is a stark reminder for importers to ensure their products are safe before importing or offering them for sale in Australia. Anyone who imports electrical goods for sale in Australia must ensure they meet Australian standards and are tested to be electrically safe. The Electrical Safety Office (ESO) led the investigation into the death and found the pumps were substandard quality and poorly designed, allowing internal wires to tangle, rip out of their connections and come into contact with the metal body of the pump. Of equal concern, the investigation also found the home had no electrical safety switch installed on the circuit the pump was plugged into, which could have prevented the tragic death.

12.01.2022 Our apologies... We are having a few website and email issues as our website host has gone into liquidation and I have no idea what all our details are of our domain host (if that's even a thing) and another company seems to be holding our details to ransom unless we pay them $910. (I refuse to be blackmailed) By Sunday our emails will not work any longer - but I have set up Gmail account so we can still be contacted via email. [email protected] will get through to us. I am getting some help with this next week - so hopefully all will be resolved. I have tried to sort it out but after hours and hours I have decided I am WAYYY out of my depth!! Have a great day!

11.01.2022 This owner decided to do his own electrical work and install some new light fittings in his rental property. We turned off the power circuit and the entire fitting was still live. Fortunately we always test before touching! If the tanants had have touched the metal parts they would have been electrocuted. Catasrophe overted.

08.01.2022 Just love a good joke - a dad joke really!

07.01.2022 Some information to anyone out there in the Logan Browns Plains area to check your safety switch brand and model number. Building owners, Property Managers and Electrical contractors have been asked to keep an eye out for this faulty and dangerous product. Logan/Browns Plains sparkies in particular should keep an eye out for Dielle YK78 Model Residual Current Device (RCD) recalled by the supplier due to a risk of electrical fire and electric shock. The RCDs were sold in the L...ogan/Browns Plains area from 2006 and can be identified by the brand name ‘Dielle’, the model number ‘YK78’ and the invalid approval marking of N.21905 (see below). The recall includes all rated models in the range 6A,10A,16A, 20A, 25A and 32A with these markings. The RCD may not comply with the product safety standard, and may not trip reliably under an earth fault condition. Marking N.21905 is not a valid Approval number. Building owners, managers and electrical contractors are urged to check switchboards or load centres for potentially affected RCDs. The recalled product needs to be replaced with an alternative RCD that has a valid approval mark. If you find a recalled RCD model installed in a customer’s premises, you should notify them about the recall and have them contact the supplier to arrange for a replacement RCD to be installed: Dielle Electrical Distributors Pty Ltd c/- 78 Grange Road, WELLAND SA 5007 Email: [email protected]
