Anita has enjoyed a passion for yoga for the past 20 years, finding in this ancient practice the grounding necessary to balance a busy career in London and more recently, work and family life in Sydney. Yoga has provided her with not only the opportunity to improve her flexibility, strength and manage her scoliosis but to deal with the stress and pressure of daily life. As a result, several years ago sh...e decided to take this passion further and completed her Yoga teacher training, then more recently her Pilates qualification, with a view to opening the kind of studio she had always been seeking. 21.01.2022 Pilates is a form of low-impact exercise that aims to strengthen muscles while improving postural alignment and flexibility. Pilates moves tend to target the core, although the exercises work other areas of your body as well. You can do Pilates with or without equipment, but no matter what, expect the moves to involve slow, precise movements and breath control. There are two different kinds of Pilates classes: mat classes and reformer classes. Flex Body offers mat classes. Both options focus on the concept of control rather than cranking out endless reps or muscle exhaustion. In Pilates, your muscles are working to lift against gravity, with the ultimate goal of strengthening and isolating the right muscles. Your goal should be to take your time with the exercises, focus on the task at hand, and connect to your breath.

21.01.2022 While women have dominated Pilates classes in the past, there is a growing swell of men taking part. Whether youre a runner, golfer or cyclist, Pilates certainly has a place within any training regime. Pilates is all about subtlety, not speed or force. Dont be fooled though, its not easy. Taking the momentum out of exercise means you work harder, tuning in to the movement and how that feels within your body. So what exactly are the benefits:... 1. Development of smaller, often neglected, muscles. In most exercise, the larger, stronger muscles will dominate, taking the load and providing the power. Through concentrated movements, Pilates isolates and strengthens the smaller muscles so the muscle groups work together, as they were designed to do. This prevents overuse of the larger muscles and avoids potential injuries. 2. Improved flexibility. We all know that greater flexibility can reduce injury by increasing range of motion, however, the more muscle mass you have the less flexible youll be. Pilates focuses on lengthening and stretching while still strengthening muscles, so increasing flexibility and reducing strains. 3. Building core strength. Through regular Pilates youll strengthening your core muscles to power movement in your limbs. A stronger core will help to stabilize the pelvis, reducing lower back, hip and knee pain. Pilates will also focus on your transverse abdominals, the often hard to isolate, base abdominal muscle underneath your six-pack. 4. Live and breathe consciously. Pilates forces you to focus on your breathing while performing the exercises, taking your mind away from the worries and concerns of the day. Try taking this mindful approach and carry it through for the rest of the day. Youll feel more refreshed and enjoy lower stress levels. 5. Improve mental mobility. Learn something new. Stimulate the mind as you work the body and release those happy hormones!

18.01.2022 The first 30min of the day can determine the course of the next 12 hours! Try these 3 morning health hacks to set you up for a sensational day: 1. Wake up at the same time each morning... Although we all love the idea of a lie-in, more sleep does not equate to better quality sleep. Synchronising your sleep cycles by waking up consistently at the same time every morning enables your body to adapt and learn to wake up naturally while in the light phase of the sleep cycle leaving you feeling refreshed and ready to take on the day. 2. Start with deep breaths The first minutes of wakefulness each morning sets the tone for the day ahead. Calming the mind and a quick spot of visualisation will help bring a positive mindset to the day ahead. Sit up in bed and take 15-20 slow breaths (in via the nose, out via the mouth) while picturing a joyful situation you're looking forward to that day. It can be something minor, just make sure it's positive. 3. A few minutes stretching Step out of bed and gently move your body through a series of stretches. Explore the different planes of the body by folding forward toward your toes, standing tall and easing into a back-bend, then to the sides. Open through the shoulders then lie on the bed to twist gently (lie on your back, knees drop to one side and arms go wide). Maintain your deep consistent breaths. Enjoy your day :)

Born in Australia, Kurtis academically and professionally trained in New Zealand, Australia and North America and holds a graduate Degree in Arts. He was a Resident Artist with Sascha Waltz in Berlin, Marie Chouinard in Montreal and a frequent guest with the Berlin state Opera, German State Opera as well as touring extensively throughout Europe. Kurtis continues to work... abroad as freelance choreographer, dancer and teacher and has recently relocated back to Australia to study physiotherapy. Along with dance Kurtis has been teaching hot yoga, barre & Pilates for over 10 years in studios all over the world. 02.01.2022 POWER OF THE POSE: Downward Facing Dog Also known as Down Dog; one of the most common yoga poses which has found its way into Pilates, Barre and general exercise classes. But what is it actually doing for your body? Bone health: While it may not appear difficult, this pose actually requires considerable strength, particularly in the shoulders. Being recognised as weight-bearing exercise means improved bone health in the prevention of osteoporosis.... Increased blood flow: As with all inversions (where heart is above head), blood flow to the brain is increased, giving increased mental clarity. This increased blood flow also serves to calm and energise the body plus the added bonus of a glowing complexion. Fabulous feet: For everyone, particularly runners and walkers, foot health is key. Downward dog stretches through the calf and ankle and strengthens the small stabilizer muscles in the feet. To increase the benefits, slowly pedal the feet to gently increase the stretch. Full-body stretch: There are not many poses that target all areas of the body with a static hold. This is probably one of the most effective poses for increasing strength and flexibility. From the hands, arms, shoulders, back, glutes, hamstrings and ankles the entire body is lengthened and tension released. Improved posture: As you settle into the pose, you start to open the shoulders and the anterior chest wall, while also releasing tightness through the neck. This is a perfect way to balance the hours spent hunching over desks and devices.
