25.01.2022 Another victim of dog attack Hopefully it will make a full recovery

24.01.2022 Tommy having cuddles outside after his 2pm bottle We also oiled him with coconut oil to help with dry skin Furless joeys (pinkies) need oiling regularly as they aren’t getting the natural oil that is in their mums pouch

23.01.2022 Duckling dropped to us today by some lovely people on holiday It was found by itself, there were no other ducks or ducklings around the area It was lucky to be rescued otherwise it would have been taken by a bird of prey, fox or feral cat

22.01.2022 KEEPING WILDLIFE IS ILLEGAL Did you know that in South Australia you HAVE to have a permit to hold/keep native animals. Without having this permit, it is illega...l for you to hold on to rescued wildlife for more than 24 hours. The reason these rules exist is because the general public does not have the knowledge, resources and experience to care for wild animals. Although most people mean well when they rescue an injured, orphaned or distressed animal and try to keep it, it is often at the detriment of said animal. Some cases I’ve had lately of animals being handed in from members of the public that have kept them long term is nothing short of TORTURE. Animals being starved or fed incorrectly. Animals that are bags of skin and bones. Animals with injuries that would have been awfully painful not receiving veterinary treatment and instead suffering for weeks before getting help. Injuries that could have been fixed if treated in time, but now they have to be put to sleep as it’s been too long for anything to be done. We really do understand that people mean well when they rescue an animal, and they’re doing it out of the goodness of their own heart when they could have just ignored or left that animal. You have our gratitude for taking that first step in getting them help. But please seek assistance from an experienced, permitted wildlife carer ASAP to give them their best chance at survival! If you know someone that is holding a wild animal illegally, including orphaned kangaroos/wombats/possums etc. please encourage them to hand those animals over to a permitted wildlife carer or veterinary clinic ASAP. There are lots of carers in the area that will help you out. Animals can be surrendered to veterinary clinics who will pass them on wildlife carers. If you don’t believe that the people will hand the animal over, you can also make a report to the Department of Water and Environment and request anonymity, so they are able to chase it up. [email protected] I've just spent $165 at the vets today for a joey that was kept by a member of the public illegally for 1-2 months. The joey was not fed anywhere near enough, was locked away in a dark area without access to sunlight and not treated for an extremely painful fracture that it had sustained when its mother was killed. The members of the public loved this joey, and truely thought they were doing the right thing. The joey is going to require MONTHS of treatment to correct its health issues and we can only hope it is going to survive. The longer an animal is in inexperienced hands, the more likely it is that permanent damage is being done and even after they've been handed on, they may be beyond saving. Pictured is another joey that was kept illegally for a few weeks and was traumatised and scared. Sadly, he ultimately died of myopathy.
