16.01.2022 Hi Everyone, I'd like to announce that my wife Deanna and I have successfully finalised the sale of Campdraft Central to CW REA INVESTMENTS, Wally Rea. Wally ha...s been a close friend and mentor to me over the past 11 years and was one of my early supporters that I hold dear to my heart. Its been a slog since the first Paradise Lagoons Campdraft in 2009 when Graeme Acton, Cameron McIntyre and the committee took a chance on me. The problem I saw was an administrative nightmare to volunteer secretaries when in 2008 I saw the secretary receive 3,000+ nominations, all delivered through the mail. The opportunity I saw was to solve the problem using technology to make someone's life easier. In December 2010, Granny Kaye Black and Kerry Wallace met me at the CQLX coffee shop to see if Clarke Creek could use the first platform for the upcoming draft in April 2011. I said of course, albeit without realising the mammoth task of having a platform designed for single committee suddenly had to support another. Fast forward to March 8th with the birth of my 2nd child, Tom. Whilst having kids is a very precious thing, magical and all that, I was doing 18 hour days to rewrite the platform for multiple committees and went back to work in the back bedroom, much to wife’s disgust. The nominations open in April for Clarke Creek and whilst on zero sleep for 3 days to get to the deadline, the nominations came in. 1,200 nominations with 10 minutes on the very first draft on the new platform. Fantastic, great, brilliant! Slide 3 years later where I had spent 300,000kms in a Nissan Patrol and in the back office of hundreds of events fixing bugs. I have successfully booted my fruit cake addiction thru much hard work thanks to our secretaries.. Campdrafting is not a straightforward problem to solve as people are not straightforward. With all the blood, sweat, tears, beers and the overall slog, nothing has measured up to the people who I've met through this job. To the cattle donors who continue to support this sport that fuels our business, thank you. Thank you for your contribution to allow Campdrafting to exist. Without your action, there is no draft. To all the secretaries, we love you. We love you as our customers but we love you as you are the hearts of the sport. The committees as well, its a testament to the good nature of people to give up something to give back to others. To all the competitors, its an incredible human organism the community of campdrafting and I have never felt more welcomed than in another field I’ve worked in. And to those special people, who I can count on one hand including Wal, who’ve guided me, thank you for your support over the past 12 years. CW REA INVESTMENTS’ new company is called Campdraft LIVE PTY LTD, as we began branding this way with the mobile app last year. I have a 12 month management contract with Campdraft LIVE PTY LTD to handover all knowledge to Wally’s team so I’m certainly not going anywhere. Wally has conviction in his business, his horses and his sport. And whilst I know the type of man intimately where conviction can overrule diplomacy, Wally understands that without our secretaries continuing to be serviced and happy, his asset Campdraft Central will fail. I’m currently down in South East Gippsland. Its cold, the wife didn’t pack a jumper and I am freezing. Its bloody 41 degrees in Rocky. How ridiculous.
