24.01.2022 Grade 1/2 Excursion to the A-frame We have been learning about 3 dimensional shapes in class. This learning inquiry has taken us along many interesting paths. Today we explored the shape of the A-frame, built replicas of ancient Aboriginal shelters, took notes for an information report about wallabies, asked questions of the Patriarch Wildlife Commitee about the historical significance of the A-frame and also ate bulk sausages and cake.... I will post the learning journal in the coming weeks. Special thanks to Margie Goss, Mary Bushby, Dolly, Megan, Rachel and Gail for making the day possible. #InquiryBasedLearing #HandsOnActivities #LearningThroughPlay #LearnerAssets #MyEducation #Numeracy #Literacy #HASS #STEM #Health #SausagesInWhiteBread

They had a ball and really enjoyed their goody bags (myself included)

17.01.2022 Today, the 7/8 class put in a MAMMOTH effort to run a pop-up canteen. It was extremely popular with over 140 items ordered! This was part of their Economics and Business unit in Humanities, where they had to identify their target audience, do market research, design their products with specific criteria in mind, price their items by understanding unit costs and profits, plus actually prepare, cook and package the orders. They should be very proud of their efforts, particular...ly with their team work throughout this project. We would like to thank Anne Campbell and Rachel Jones who volunteered to help the 7/8s today. We really appreciated your time and expertise. #Initiative #Community #Pride #Resilience #TogetherWeInspire #PersonalSocialCapability

10.01.2022 7/8 Kitchen Science with AK during National Science Week. The 7/8 class were lucky enough to work with AK in the kitchen to create a delicious re-imagining of Fish and Chips. Our menu included: *Flathead Ceviche- it's not exactly cooked, but cured using fresh lime juice...some interesting science there!... *Thai fish cakes- we took special note of the physical and chemical changes happening during the preparation and cooking of this meal. * Good old baked potatoes- we tested our potatoes for Glucose and starch. * Potato Salad- we boiled our spuds and made our own whole egg mayonnaise (an emulsion- a mixture of 2 liquids that don't normally want to combine) with lots of fresh herbs. * Garden salad with homemade dressing- a chance to explore some natural emulsifiers. It was a fabulous lunch and a fantastic way to bring together some of the science concepts and techniques we have been studying in the laboratory. Remember science is all around! #scienceinthekitchen #scienceweek #fidhsstem #innovation
